Konoha! A bustling, crowded "village" full of life and joy and—

"See our depressed kid yet?"

"Depressed kids? Everywhere. Depressed kids in tacky orange jumpsuits? No, not yet,"

...Depressed...kids?

"There's that boy with shades and no emotion, simping pink-haired girl who has no parents(love her hands), edgy black-haired kids also with no parents, but no blonde-haired kids with no parents. I'm hurt this place isn't representing the blonde-haired orphan population enough! Isn't that right, Dio?"

"..."

"Dio?" Kira got off his binoculars to cast a glance at his oddly taciturn companion.

His eyes widened. Dio was... gone!

Alarmed, he almost fell off out of his seat trying to get up, "Kars?! Dio's gone!"

"..."

"K-Kars?" He swivelled to the right, where Kars chose to sit that morning, only to find another empty chair…

'Shit!? I-Is this an enemy attack?! B-But they were here just a second ago!' Almost at frantic speeds, he began to spin around in hopes of finding even the faintest trace of human activity.

But there was none.

'M-Maybe they're at the training grounds and I just didn't notice them leaving!' He jumped off the Shodaime's head and rushed into the training grounds behind the heads of the Hokage.

Again, after exhaustive searching, he could find no one, not even a patrolling shinobi or the Anbu assigned to him. And eventually, he was forced to stop the pursuit from fatigue.

Kira gasped for air as his half-lidded eyes travelled to and fro the empty training ground, "I-Is this some side effect of Bites The Dust... I didn't know?" He clasped his head in-between his arms trying to make sense of it all.

He knew this wasn't supposed to happen.

He knew this could never happen. It was fundamentally not how his power worked! He knew this. And he knew it well.

But that...

That was back when he was still alive.

Fighting for his life against Jotaro and Josuke…

But now… he's dead.

"Could that… Could that be the difference...?" falling to his knees, Kira, for the first time in his life, didn't know what to do.

He slowly lifted his head up, tired blue eyes beholding the fading shine of the afternoon sun.

"God...damnit! W-Why did I... have to be so cocky?" He didn't understand why, but tears suddenly began to flow out of his eyes uncontrollably.

No.

He shouldn't lie to himself. He knew exactly why.

Biting his bottom lip so hard it almost bled, Kira flung his arms up high, and with a deep breath:

"GODDAMNIIIIIIIIIT! WHY!? WHY...!"

Kira roared, every fibre of his being seethed with rage and despair. For the next minute, all he could do was bellow and bawl, his fists pounding constantly on the ground below him as if by some miracle it would somehow bring them back.

-Thud!-

He crumpled to the ground, quietly sobbing as his consciousness slowly faded into the clutches of sleep, "Wh-Why… do I have to lose everything for a second time?"

'But maybe… this is what a monster like me deserves...'

-Tap!-

"—Kira!"

-Tap! Tap!-

"Oi! Kira!"

Kira snapped out of his trance when he felt something cold poking his forehead.

"Hm?" He straightened himself up before lightly rubbing his eyes.

When he reopened his eyes, Kira noticed a cup of coffee being placed on the table in front of him. looking up from the cup, he saw Dio. The man was making everyone breakfast. But from the looks of it, only they were present.

"Coffee," Was all the blond said before he dove back into buttering up the toast that had been requested by Doppio.

"..." Kira looked back down at the coffee, and after a moment's thought, he shook his head.

"I prefer tea," He gently pushed the cup away and began to get up, predicting Dio wouldn't take so kindly to his refusal.

To his surprise, Dio just nodded and took the cup off his hands and a few seconds later, Kira found that same cup filled to the brim with green tea.

"O-Oh… Thank you," Carefully, he grasped the cup with both hands and lifted it to his mouth.

-Whooo!-

After blowing away the steam, Kira closed his eyes and took a sip of the drink.

'Lovely!' He smiled as he set the cup back down on its saucer.

"How is it?" He turned to find Dio's expectant gaze locked onto him.

"It's… delectable," Dio nodded curtly at his praise, though Kira could tell the emotionally impassive man was happy from how he let out a shallow sigh the moment his back was turned.

Kira was amused at Dio's cuteness; who knew the man who tried to kill him during their first encounter would be the one making him tea in the morning? He found the rhetoric so hilarious, he almost spilt the tea on his pants.

Good thing too, since Dio decided to walk back to the table, "Here, your eggs and bacon," He plopped the dish onto the table with one hand while the other handed Kira his utensils.

"Thank you," Kira took them and immediately began to dig in, however, just as he was about to stick his fork into the juicy, sizzling strips of bacon, his hands were slapped away.

"Ah ah ah! Not until everyone's here," Much to his chagrin, Dio's words sounded from behind him, his neutral tone making it all the more aggravating.

Kira leaned against his hand, his eyes having never left the plate and its mouthwatering contents.

'Too bad I won't get to eat it...' He blew silent raspberries at Dio, who was in the kitchen one room away fashioning Kars's food...

Soon, he was back, in addition to a tray of food. This extravagant dinner was for Kars(the bastard could live off the sun alone, but he still liked being treated like a king). Still, this one was a mite larger than last time, and Kira, an avid Kars hater, took notice instantaneously.

"Isn't this time a little larger than usual?" He didn't waste a single second and was already pointing at an extra bowl of toasted bread sitting innocently amidst the platters of meat and veggies.

"Hm? Oh no, that's for Doppio," He shook his head, "Kars apparently hates grain, so I took extra care not to add any of the stuff into his food,"

Kira slumped back down, once more depressed and miserable now that he couldn't take a dig at his worst enemy, "I see..."

But before he could fully immerse himself in that baconless, eggless world, he heard something truly life-changing:

"You do know it'll be faster if you just go and fetch them, right?"

Without any prior thought or deliberation, Kira was already rushing up the stairs to the common room that connected directly to their bedrooms. All the while his thoughts repeatedly flashed back and forth between the eggs and bacon.

'Oh... the eggs and bacon~~' Still, he broke out of his daydream and knocked on Doppio's door.

-Knock! Knock! Knock!-

"..."

"Doppio?" He called out to the teen.

He was met with silence. He tried again.

-Knock! Knock! Knock!-

"Doppio?"

"..."

Nothing.

He sighed and gave up, "Where could that boy be..." He motioned to walk back down the stairs, but as if ordained by fate, Kira caught sight of movement inside his room.

"..." He narrowed his eyes and summoned his stand.

With a silent, cat-like efficiency, Kira slinked closer and closer to the door. When he got there, he pressed himself close to the wall, left hand fingering his pocket in search of… ah! There it is: a one yen coin. Preparing with bated breath, he leaned over ever so quietly, only allowing one eye to escape cover.

-Shuffle! Shuffle!-

'Shit, I can't see anything from here...' But he could hear it. The movement, the sound, the gentle footfalls on his carpet floor… wait. He didn't know if it was just his imagination, but he swore the sounds were getting louder!

-Tap! Tap!-

There it was again! He was right, the intruder was getting closer. Did they know he was here? No. That's impossible.

-Tap! Tap! TAP!-

He could hear his heartbeat pick up pace, but that did nothing to dull the inevitability he found himself in.

'I guess there's no other choice...' He clamped his fist shut, hiding the coin in his palm and tensed himself.

'Three,'

-TAP! TAP! TAP!-

'Two...'

-TAP! TAP! TAP!-

'One!'

-TAP! TAP! TAP!-

He crossed the boundary separating the hallway and his room in one step, his arm already winding up to sling the coin in his hand when he saw… him.

"!"
