"Aaaaaaaargh!"
Otto finally woke up, heavily panted. His face was looking very pale.
No, he couldn't accept this. That nightmare kept haunting him every night, and it almost driving him crazy. He didn't understand, he was chased by a horde of monsters, yet they screamed for help. Why, why those monsters wants him to help them? Why must him?
And Otto also noticed a silhouette of a mysterious man dressed in Erionian attire, carried a futuristic sword. Seriously, that man looks familiar to him. He was very sure that he had seen him before, but where?
If Otto thought again, he felt like his nightmares had something to do with the overseers and their recent plans. Creating a portal machine to defend the citizens from inter-dimensional threats. Sounds weird, isn't it?
Or there are two possibilities. Whenever the overseers were searching for something they seek for a long time, or they kidnapped any person from another dimension for their own gains.
He slowly wiped his forehead as his eyes looked at his digital alarm clock. 10 minutes left before 6AM.
The nightmare also made Otto felt thirsty. Perhaps he should go to the kitchen to get a glass of fresh milk.
...
About roughly two hours had passed, and the morning sun continued to rise in the sky. Otto sat alone on the bench in the public park, silently stared at the clear blue sky. Sometimes, he will go out and take a walk when he's stressed.
"Otto?"
Otto soon heard a familiar male voice from nearby. When he turned his face towards the person, it was Tanjirou. The eldest of Kamado siblings stood not far from him, and he carried two boxes of Japanese egg sandwiches with him.
"Tanjirou?"
Tanjirou then took his seat next to Otto.
"What are you doing here?" Tanjirou asked.
"I'm just taking some fresh air" Otto answered.
"Same as me" Tanjirou said.
Tanjirou then gave one of his sandwiches to Otto.
"Do you want some, Otto?" Tanjirou offered.
"Thanks" Otto smiled as he took the sandwich box.
Out of sudden, Otto just remembered about what happened last night. And perhaps it's a good idea if he tell Tanjirou about this.
"Tanjirou..."
"Yes?" Tanjirou glanced at Otto.
Otto took a deep breath for a few seconds.
"Actually there's something..."
Tanjirou was waiting for Otto to speak.
"I want to tell you" Otto finished his sentence.
...
"Do you think we've done the right thing, Kurokawa?"
As for today, Konstantin was visiting his junior colleague, Petro Ogienko who lives not far from his house.
"The citizens are always fed with lies by our overlords, Kurokawa. Believe me, there are no such things like inter-dimensional threats! We're the ones who are threatening the other dimensions!" Petro was frustrated.
"I know, but what we can do?" Konstantin sighed.
"We have unknowingly become criminals by helping them create the portal machines! Can't you realise it!?" Petro was looking panic. "Enough of this, i'm planning to run away from here!"
"But it will cost your lives if you do that!" Konstantin quickly arose from his seat.
"I would rather die than seeing more families lose their loved ones!" Petro shouted. "They may live in a different timeline from us, but it doesn't mean we can merely destroy their lives as if we're popping the balloons!"
Konstantin then slowly sat back on the chair.
"Please think, Kurokawa. I know you're feeling the same as me. You're not a heartless person" Petro said.
Petro was right. He shouldn't participate in this meaningless project after all.
...
"I know it sounds weird but what about if that person is actually your counterpart from another timeline?" Otto guessed.
Both of them then went silent for a few seconds.
"Are you really sure about this, Otto?" Tanjirou raised his eyebrows.
"I'm not sure, but when I thought again, his uniform is looking outdated, as if he comes from early modern era" Otto said.
"If you say that my counterpart comes from the early modern period, how can he entered our timeline?" Most probably everyone in there don't have any idea about inter-dimensional stuffs like creating a portal machine" Tanjirou stated.
"Maybe you're right" Otto sighed.
"But you can tell me if you got any problem, my friends and i are always there to help" Tanjirou smiled.
"Okay" Otto nodded slowly.
"Beep!"
Tanjirou just received a message via his smartphone. When he checked the message, it from his younger sister, Nezuko.
"Otto, I need to go now. See you later!" Tanjirou quickly arose from his seat before walked away.
Otto resumed staring at the sky again. He wondered if that person from the last night was Tanjirou's alternate counterpart or not.
To be continued...
