Fuku slowly opened her eyes. When she slowly looked at her surroundings, it looks like she was in someone's bedroom. And all of her wounds are bandaged.
She was glad that she successfully escaped from that horrible place. Yet at the same time, she missed her grandmother. The elderly woman must have been worried a lot of her granddaughter.
As Fuku raised her upper torso, she noticed someone opened the door. It was Konstantin and he carried a bowl of cereal with a glass of milk and an orange on the tray.
"Good thing that you're awake" Konstantin smiled.
"Whe...where am I?" Fuku asked slowly.
Konstantin placed the tray on the bedside table.
"You're in my house" Konstantin answered. "My grandson found you last night"
Fuku then went silent for a few seconds.
"You escaped from Sector 88, aren't you?"
Konstantin knew very much of Sector 88. Most of the experiments involving biological weapons, artificial creatures and mutants are conducted in there, and the Erionian scientists who lives in there are quite... insane, that's all Konstantin can say..
"Usually the authorities will sent prisoners there to 'convert' them into mindless beasts who only heed every commands of their masters" Konstantin said.
"But I'm not a criminal"
Konstantin lowered his head a bit.
"Our colonizers were defeated in a great war many years ago, and to rebuild their strength again, they need to create a vast army of..."
Fuku silently glanced at Konstantin.
"Demons?" Fuku raised her eyebrows.
...
"What that I could remember is..."
Somewhere in a hospital room, Giyuu and his junior Murata were interviewed an elderly female patient. The patient was badly injured after a group of Infesters invaded an apartment near the outskirts of the city.
"One of them said they were searching for someone..." the woman said.
"Searching for someone?" Giyuu was curious.
"That man stole something from them...but I don't know what it's"
"Could that mean that guy just sneaked inside their hideout?" Murata asked Giyuu.
"We don't know if that man infiltrated their lair or not, but surely the Infesters won't left him alive" Giyuu replied.
"They tried to kill me...but someone had saved me..."
"Who?" Giyuu asked the woman.
"I can't remember much...but she wears a butterfly jacket... with a butterfly hairpin...and she has the scent of... wisteria flowers"
Both of them were froze in shock.
"Butterfly hairpin?" Giyuu's eyebrows arched.
"Tomioka-san, did Shinobu or was there during that time?" Murata asked in curiousity.
"No, Shinobu was assigned for a separate mission" Giyuu said.
"That's weird" Murata commented.
"Do you still remembered her face?" Giyuu asked her again.
"I couldn't see her face since she wears a mask"
Giyuu felt weird about this. If the person who saved the elderly woman wasn't Shinobu, then who?
"Aaaaaaaaaargh!?"
Out of sudden, the three of them then heard a loud scream from outside. It looked like something bad just happened in this hospital.
"What happened!?" Murata was worried.
"Let's go outside now!" Giyuu said as they quickly rushed towards the door.
...
"Why!? Why!? Why!?
Otto was on his way towards the guest bedroom as he heard some screams from inside, making him paused his steps for a while. It looks like the girl from yesterday had already awake.
He quickly rushed towards the bedroom's door before opened it.
However, when he entered, the girl covered her face with her hands, crying. His grandfather meanwhile bowed his head in grief, as if he was a guilty person.
"How should I return home now!? My grandmother, my parents! I know they missed me so much right now!"
"Grandpa, what happened?" Otto asked out of concern.
Konstantin slowly turned his face towards Otto.
"It's my fault, grandson" Konstantin replied.
"Your fault?" Otto's reaction changed.
"Ogienko-kun is right. I have unknowingly destroyed other people's lives"
"Destroyed other people's lives? What are you talking about?"
"The truth is not like what had everyone think, grandson. It's much worse than that" Konstantin
"What do you mean?"
Konstantin took off his glasses before finally spoke. His hand pulled out a small cloth to wipe his glasses.
"Perhaps I must tell you about the hidden schemes of our overseers"
"Hidden schemes?" Otto was disbelieved.
