Welcome back to Injustice Dragons Among Us 2. Last time, we caught up on what Spyro and Cynder have been doing since getting back from their battle with High Councilor Superman. But just as they were wrapping up a mission at Concurrent Skies, they were enveloped in a familiar blue glow, and were transported from the scene. So, what awaits them on the other side? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes not where we left it, but rather in a high rise boardroom, where a familiar bald man stands, as a second figure, one resembling Morgan Freeman, walks up to him from the background)
Lucius Fox: I saw your speech to the tribunal. I thought your goal was to reassure people, Mr. Luthor.
Lex Luthor: Please, Lucius. We're on the same level since the Wayne Industries-Lexcorp merger. Just call me Lex.
Lucius Fox: Lex, be serious about this. You know you're not alone in rebuilding Metropolis and Gotham. But convincing people to move back to these cities is going to be a lot harder if the people aren't convinced that someone's not going to knock them down again.
Lex Luthor: Clark is never getting out. I'm sure I made that clear.
Lucius Fox: You may have Superman detained, sure. But what about Wonder Woman? Black Adam? Aquaman? They're still out there. And the tribunal prosecutors can't seem to touch them. Those're three pretty big loose ends to wrap up. Plus if the stories of Batman being back are true, we can make that four major loose ends.
Lex Luthor: The new League is handling them.
Lucius Fox: They were handling them, but when Slade retired things started slipping. Plus losing Zatanna and The Ray in Kabul didn't exactly help anything. Add to that how the public doesn't exactly trust the group's leadership.
Lex Luthor: You don't need to worry about them. I've been working on a plan to help fix this. (Hearing something in the corridor) And it sounds like that's them arriving now.
(At this point, we transition to a nearby stairwell, where a familiar blue glow arcs through the scene, as Spyro and Cynder are transported into the scene)
Spyro: (Finally recovering from the transition) Okay, where are we?
Cynder: No idea. Maybe whoever was operating that thing was a little off in their aim?
Spyro: I'm still trying to figure out how they activated it to begin with. Didn't we set it to self destruct after we went home?
Cynder: There's only one person alive who could've fixed that machine.
(And just like that, Lex Luthor appears in the stairwell.)
Lex Luthor: I'm honored you think I'm that capable.
Cynder: I should've known. Lex Luthor. How are you doing these days?
Lex Luthor: I've been kept pretty busy. Wayne Enterprises merged with Lexcorp after everything was said and done.
Spyro: That's all well and good, but last I checked things were pretty peaceful since we left. What happened?
Lex Luthor: Utter chaos. And it all started, when we found this.
(With that, Lex Luthor presses a section of the wall, revealing it to be a hidden button, unveiling a secret elevator.)
Spyro: (Realizing who's handiwork this is) I'm already not liking this.
(The theory in mind, the three step into the elevator and head downward. A few minutes later, we transition to what looks like an old subway tunnel, with one long gangplank acting as the majority of the walking space, with two familiar superheroes standing at the end.)
Lex Luthor: Probably the most controversial of our problems was the theory that Batman escaped the institution he was in. I couldn't believe it at first. But then we found this place.
Cynder: Must be one of Bruce's backup Batcaves.
Lex Luthor: That's exactly what we thought. (Remembering who else is here) Oh, forgive me. I almost forgot to introduce you to our other team members. Spyro, Cynder, these are Dinah Lance and Oliver Queen, alias Black Canary and Green Arrow respectively.
Cynder: Wait a second, I thought Green Arrow died. Wasn't he killed by Superman?
Green Arrow: This world's Green Arrow, yes. I'm not from here.
Spyro: Ah. That explains it. More interdimensional travel.
Black Canary: We've heard so much about you two. Lex has called you guys the real heroes of the Regime's downfall.
Spyro: I wouldn't say that. We just did our part. Heck, Cynder did more than I ever could.
Cynder: Only because I was pulled over first.
Lex Luthor: Getting back on track. We weren't exactly worried about Batman at first. (Gesturing to a giant computer tower in the center of the room) But then we found this thing.
Green Arrow: Meet the Eye of Sauron.
Lex Luthor: All the operating system we've been able to crack tells us it's called Brother Eye. And somehow it's linked all the satellite networks on the planet.
Spyro: Definitely sounds like something Bruce would do.
Cynder: Also sounds like you'd need a real genius to crack that software.
(At this point, the two dragons are made aware of a pair of chairs in the room, by them turning around, revealing more familiar faces.)
Harley Quinn: I wouldn't say genius. But I do have a Ph.D.
Batgirl: You can make that two.
Cynder: Harley! Good to see you again!
Harley Quinn: Hey, the feeling's mutual.
Batgirl: I've heard a lot about you two. I'm looking forward to working with you for the time being.
Spyro: All of this reunion stuff is nice. But it doesn't answer the big question. If things were going so well when we left, why call us back to just deal with Batman?
Lex Luthor: Because it's not just Batman. Black Adam and Aquaman are still on the loose, and Wonder Woman has recently escaped Themyscira. Top that with gaps in global security from dismantling the Regime, and the new Justice League is stretched thin.
Cynder: Wait, how on earth did Diana escape confinement?
Lex Luthor: We don't know. But that wasn't all we found. Harley, Barbara, if you would?
Batgirl: Aside from the Regime remnants out there, Gorilla Grodd has been active. And I mean extremely active.
Harley Quinn: He's pulled together a group of supervillains, calls them "The Society"
Lex Luthor: We've got moles in the Society who say Grodd is planning something big. But we don't know anything about it.
Harley Quinn: But we do know it involves a shipment of a butt-load of Fear Toxin from Slaughter Swamp by Scarecrow.
Spyro: Wait, isn't Scarecrow dead too?
Lex Luthor: We're still figuring that one out. That's where you guys come in. We need all the help we can get to close these gaps and put an end to this chaos once and for all. So, are you in?
Cynder: The situation does sound urgent.
Spyro: Especially if three Regime heavy hitters and Batman are on the loose. Count us in.
Lex Luthor: Excellent. I hope you two don't mind splitting up for this first mission.
Cynder: We'll see what we can do. What's up first?
Lex Luthor: We've got to stop that shipment from Slaughter Swamp. Spyro, I'm sending you in to handle that.
Spyro: Are you sure about that, Lex? Cynder's got the Fear and Poison powers, not me.
Lex Luthor: But you've got more raw power to overcome it. And besides, you'll be a good reference point for the other two, who I'm sending in with you. You'll rendezvous with Red Hood and the Atom outside Crane's hideout and intercept the shipment from there.
Spyro: Who and who?
Lex Luthor: Two new inductees. You'll be showing them the whole hero game.
Spyro: Always willing to help out, I guess.
Harley Quinn: Don't worry if you get stuck, I'll be tagging along as well.
Spyro: Alright. Though I don't know that much about you since I was pulled into this world last minute last time.
Lex Luthor: Don't worry, without Joker's influence, she's a different person. Mostly.
Spyro: I'm taking your word for that, Lex.
Cynder: Good luck out there.
(And with that, Spyro and Harley Quinn leave on their mission, ending our tale for today)
And that looks like a good spot to wrap up. Yes I know there's no journal entries for this chapter, but that's because it's really a continuation of the first chapter. After reviewing the first chapter, I figured it would be a good idea to separate the past and present sections into two chapters. So, what awaits Spyro in the depths of Slaughter Swamp? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
