Welcome back to Injustice Dragons Among Us 2. Last time, Spyro, Cynder, Black Canary, and Green Arrow began their battle against The Society at their "tonight we strike" party in Gorilla City. After attempting to extradite Grodd, and then taking down Bane and Catwoman, Doctor Fate decided to make an appearance to the group, bearing a message. So what does the good doctor have to say? Read on to discover...
Cynder's Log
Am I actually seeing this right now? That's Doctor Fate! One of the most powerful mystics in this universe! So... why is he here?
Doctor Fate: I come to you in a moment of darkness...
Black Canary: Doctor Fate?
Green Arrow: What are you doing here?
Doctor Fate: Dinah Lance, Oliver Queen, in the past I have been able to shield you from what danger I could. But now, a crisis looms, and I fear I am unable to stop it.
Cynder: If you're talking about Grodd and company we've got them pretty well covered.
Doctor Fate: Grodd is the pawn of one much greater. (Looking to Spyro and Cynder) Much like his counterpart on your world.
Spyro: Assuming you mean Gaul?
Doctor Fate: I do. And through his actions, a new order is coming. I have foreseen that much. I offer you a chance at salvation from it. Come with me while you still can. (To Spyro and Cynder) As long as you remain here, this world is under a great threat from they who Grodd serves.
Cynder: Sounds to me like Lex is going to have his hands full pretty soon.
Spyro: In that case, we have to stay. This is literally the reason we were brought here, to help out.
Doctor Fate: Everything and everyone you care about in this world will die. I will shepherd you to safety by force if I must, lest you suffer the same fate.
Black Canary: I think the doc's been wearing the helm for far too long.
Green Arrow: Looks like we need to help him out of it.
(In this moment, Spyro and Black Canary step forward)
Black Canary: Ollie, cover me.
Green Arrow: Not going to argue with you there.
Spyro: Cynder, leave this one to me.
Cynder: Believe me, I was planning on it. You've got the magic advantage anyways.
(As Cynder and Green Arrow enter a covering position, we focus in on Black Canary and Spyro, about to fight Doctor Fate)
Doctor Fate: (To both of them) Neither of you should have returned here. You are not fated to fight Luthor's battle.
Spyro: I would've told Luthor that then, rather than telling us now.
(And with that, the battle begins)
Spyro's Log
You've got to be kidding me. I'm fighting DOCTOR FATE?! He's one of the most powerful sorcerers in this world! But I guess Aether has a pretty good magic tolerance, or at least gives me that boost, as Dinah and I have him down in a matter of minutes.
Black Canary: Screw fate.
Spyro: Took the words right out of my mouth.
(With that, Green Arrow and Cynder re-enter the picture, while Spyro pulls the helmet off Doctor Fate, restoring Kent Nelson to control, showing by the white fading from his eyes, returning to a normal state.)
Green Arrow: You okay Kent? That headgear of yours really had you going for a minute there.
Kent Nelson: I lost control of Nabu, the spirit of the Helm. But thanks to you, for now I'm in charge again.
Cynder: Now that we've got someone without a godly power backing them up to talk to, what's all that babbling Nabu was doing anyhow?
Kent Nelson: Nabu meant every word he said. There is something coming. I must consult with my masters, the Lords of Order, and pray that they'll intervene before it's too late.
Spyro: Too late for what? What's going on here?
Black Canary: And who exactly does Grodd serve if not himself?
Kent Nelson: The Lords' magic binds me from saying more. If not for it, I'd tell you everything. But I've changed the course of this planet's fate too many times for them to trust me with that privilege. Earth's destiny is no longer clear.
(And with that, Kent Nelson takes the Helm from Spyro, donning it and becoming Doctor Fate once more)
Doctor Fate: What comes next is out of your hands to stop. For better or worse, you are in the hands of the gods now.
(And with that, Doctor Fate teleports away in the same manner he emerged.)
Green Arrow: Well that was... spooky.
Cynder: Not to mention a bad omen. We've got to capture Grodd and get this intel back to Luthor as soon as possible.
(And with that, the group takes off deeper into Gorilla City, and within a few minutes, find Gorilla Grodd and a few of his soldiers, as well as a captured Harley Quinn, who Gorilla Grodd immediately tosses to the floor)
Grodd: You have overstayed your welcome.
Spyro: We'll gladly check out, once you're in handcuffs.
(Seeing the cue to strike, Green Arrow fires three arrows from his bow, only for Gorilla Grodd to stop them in midair with his immense telepathic powers)
Green Arrow: He just had to be a telepath, didn't he?
Cynder: Dinah, we could use a song to sooth these savage beasts.
Spyro: And if that doesn't work, you've got me for backup.
(With that, Gorilla Grodd's soldiers charge, only to be blasted back by a Canary Cry, save Gorilla Grodd himself who rolls past Spyro, ready to face Green Arrow and Cynder by himself)
Green Arrow: All of this and I forget my banana arrow. Wait, is that offensive? I can't honestly tell.
Grodd: Ignorant fools!
Cynder: I'm going with he's offended.
(Now the battle begins. Gorilla Grodd may hold the strength advantage, but Cynder and Green Arrow have speed and range on their side, as shown by how the mighty ape eventually falls.)
Cynder: Just like Gaul. All bark and no bite.
(Just as Gorilla Grodd lies defeated, a platoon of his soldiers arrive, only to flee into the surrounding jungle once they see their alpha has been defeated, while Green Arrow slaps a pair of massive handcuffs on him)
Spyro: Where exactly have you been keeping those?
Green Arrow: Ray Palmer's shrinking tech makes pocket storage a breeze.
Cynder: Either way, we've got more important business to attend to. Let's get Harley and get out of here. There's intel Luthor kind of needs.
(And as soon as she says that, Gorilla Grodd starts chuckling, menacingly)
Black Canary: He's restrained and chuckling at us. Not a good sign.
Grodd: Pathetic humans. Even with the dragons' help, you're doomed. This battle is yours, but the war is one you've already lost.
(And as if that was a cue for something, a giant spaceship suddenly appears over the scene, one resembling a skull in all actuality.)
Black Canary and Green Arrow: Holy shit.
(Once the ship is in position over the group, a blue beam shoots down and beams Spyro, Cynder, Black Canary, and Green Arrow into it, leaving Grodd there laughing, as we focus inside the ship)
Spyro: Whoa. What just happened?
Cynder: I have no idea, but something tells me we're about to meet the guy Doctor Fate was trying to warn us about.
?: Your assumption is a correct one.
(And just like that, the floor behind the group opens up, revealing a familiar green, black-eyed visage as everyone turns around in surprise)
Green Arrow: Smart money's on alien.
Spyro: (Sarcastically) As if the outrageous looking spaceship didn't give it away.
Black Canary: What're we thinking? Martian, like J'onn J'onzz?
Cynder: Doesn't look like a Martian to me.
Brainiac: My origin point is 1,000 lightyears removed from Mars. Rather I emerged from the planet Colu. I am... Brainiac.
(With that, Brainiac shoots metal tendrils across the room, grabbing everybody up by their arms for the humans, and tails for the dragons. Black Canary attempts to hit Brainiac with a Canary Cry, but is barely stopped before she can. And as Brainiac holds everybody at his mercy, our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good spot to wrap up for now. Yes I know, having Chapter 3 split into three parts is annoying, but for storytelling purposes, it makes the most sense. I was probably going to split the Brainiac stuff off from the rest of the chapter as is, but the rest of it proved to be so much material that it needed two parts to cover. You can blame Grodd's speech at the beginning of the last chapter for that. So, it looks like we've met the one Grodd serves. So what's his plan? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
