Welcome back to Injustice Dragons Among Us 2! Last time, tragedy struck our band of heroes, as Harley Quinn sadly breathed her last, despite Spyro and Lex Luthor's efforts to save her. Luthor sends out an announcement to inform the others of Quinn's passing, as well as Wonder Woman being the cause of it, while Spyro, Cynder, and Supergirl headed north to confront Superman and Batman. So, what's going to happen in the Fortress of Solitude? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes within the Fortress of Solitude, where Superman has just finished recharging at the Solarium, with Black Adam, Robin, and Batman watching on.)
Superman: Did you find anything?
Robin: I checked all the Kryptonian data, like you asked. You didn't miss anything, there just wasn't a counter for Brainiac.
Batman: My checks turned up nothing as well.
Superman: You checked the data?
Batman: A long time ago, and tried to tell Damian he wouldn't find anything.
Robin: Another pair of eyes never hurt, Father.
Superman: Regardless, there has to be something we've missed. A blind spot, a weakness, anything! Brute force alone won't cut it this time.
Black Adam: I hope this isn't a bad time, but if your powers are restored, I should return to Kahndaq, make sure it's defenses are up to snuff.
Superman: Wait, how has Brainiac not attacked it yet?
Black Adam: The magic from the Rock of Eternity hides Kahndaq from prying eyes, Brainiac's included. But I don't expect it will fool him for much longer.
(But before Superman can answer, the door to the Solarium opens, revealing Spyro, Cynder, and Supergirl)
Supergirl: Kal, Bruce, we need to talk.
Superman: We received Luthor's transmission, but the reception up here isn't the best. What happened?
Spyro: Harley's dead. By Wonder Woman's hand.
Superman: What?
Robin: Good.
Batman: (Getting frustrated) Damian.
Robin: You know as well as I do she's half of the duo that led to Metropolis going up in atomic fire.
Superman: Damian, now's not the time for this.
Cynder: Clark's right. We need to stay focused, it's what Harley would've wanted.
Superman: Adam, Damian, Bruce, give us a moment.
Batman: Harley was part of the Insurgency. Anything concerning her can be said in front of me.
Superman: Very well then.
(With that, Black Adam and Robin begrudgingly leave the room)
Superman: It's unfortunate really.
Supergirl: It really is, just how far Diana's fallen.
Superman: It's unfortunate that Diana chose to deal with this now.
Spyro: (Confused and slightly outraged) What?
Superman: Harley was always a confusing case in my books. I couldn't tell how much the Joker had corrupted her. I always feared that she'd relapse and hurt innocent people, and so decided to deal with her in due time.
Supergirl: Innocent people are dying, and she was helping us!
Superman: I know. That's why it's a shame she's gone now of all times. We need as many bodies to throw at this as we can, metaphorically speaking.
Batman: You and I both know you're not speaking metaphorically.
Supergirl: Wait, you would've been willing to sacrifice her?! (Puts it all together) Wait, is what Damian said true?
Superman: Yes, Harley was involved in the destruction of Metropolis. She was assistant to the Joker in the operation that rigged a nuclear detonator to Lois' heartbeat. The same incident that lead me to take the Joker's life.
Supergirl: You executed the Joker personally?!
Superman: I took one life to save millions.
Batman: Except we both know it wasn't just one life. Why don't you tell her about our world's Green Arrow, about Hawkman, about Huntress, about all of them!
Superman: You think this is how I wanted things, Bruce?! For millennia, human beings have been slaughtering each other. I put a stop to that.
Cynder: But at what cost, Clark? You yourself realized how far this vision of peace had been corrupted once Wonder Woman got involved.
Superman: Diana may have turned things to a much more violent angle than I anticipated, but still, humans need strong leadership.
Supergirl: (Not believing this) Whose son are you? Jor-El's or General Zod's?!
Batman: (Figuring it out) In all this time, you're telling me Luthor never told you the finer details about what Superman did? Even the fact that he killed the Joker?
Supergirl: If you thought I honestly didn't know what happened, then you're delusional, Bruce! (Looking almost with shame at the symbol on her chest) I know why people fear the crest of the House of El, but I honestly wanted to believe that I could restore what it once meant.
Batman: If you honestly think that's possible, you're not just a naive child, you're straight up delusional.
(At this point, the door opens again, revealing Lex Luthor has arrived for some reason)
Lex Luthor: (Having heard all of this through the door) If I had to put a stake in this, I'd say you're the delusional one, Bruce.
Superman: Lex?
Lex Luthor: Don't get me wrong, Clark. You're not much better off. (To Supergirl) I hope you realize I never intended to cover up anything in what I've said about the Regime.
Supergirl: You gave me the most unbiased picture you could. But everything I've learned today throws everything askew.
Superman: Don't worry, Kara. We'll give you time to process. But at the end of the day, there must be a choice. Whose side do you stand on.
(As Superman makes his warning, the ground starts to shake)
Lex Luthor: What's happening?!
Supergirl: It's Brainiac! He's extracting the cities early!
Superman: Then we haven't a moment to waste. Tell Adam he has full authority to return to Kahndaq. Then the rest of us are heading to Metropolis.
(With that, and a bit of hesitancy in the air, most of the group heads off towards Metropolis, but Spyro and Cynder stay behind for a minute, contemplating everything they've just heard)
Spyro: Did... you know that Harley was involved in Metropolis' destruction?
Cynder: Surprisingly, that never came up.
Spyro: Now I think I get how conflicted Clark was in that regard.
Cynder: I'm... not sure now's the time to be wrapped up in the philosophy of it.
Spyro: Still, he was just so... heartless about it. I'm starting to wonder how much of the Regime really was Wonder Woman's manipulations.
Cynder: You think Clark honestly does believe the nonsense the Regime was spouting?
Spyro: I'm... unsure. What do you think?
Cynder: I'm admittedly just as unsure as you are.
Spyro: (As the ground shakes again) Well, we've got plenty of time to think about it.
Cynder: Seems like we've got no time. We need to get moving, or Brainiac's going to get the upper hand.
(With the dilemma still fresh in their minds, Spyro and Cynder fly off towards Metropolis, ending our tale for today)
And that looks like a good spot to wrap up for now. Yes I know I'm only about halfway through Chapter 9, and I didn't adapt any of the battles. But I did the same thing with one chapter of the original Injustice Gods Among Us. And the rest of the chapter seems like a strange tonal shift from the beginning, so it made sense to split it in my mind. This made a pretty good philosophical debate, and will set up the ending dilemma going into the poll on my page right now. So, what awaits our heroes in Metropolis? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
