Welcome back to Injustice Dragons Among Us 2. Last time, Supergirl, Spyro, and Cynder confronted Superman about Harley's death in the Fortress of Solitude. And in that moment, Spyro and Cynder got a taste of what Superman is really like, and started wondering if all of his downfall was due to Wonder Woman's machinations. But they haven't got time to worry about that, as Brainiac has started collecting his target cities. So, what awaits as the group heads to Metropolis? Read on to discover...
Cynder's Log
This whole encounter is starting to shake what I thought I knew last time we were here. Does Clark honestly agree with what Diana was trying to do? Did her corruption of him really go that far? I don't know. And Spyro seems to be in the same boat. But there isn't time to figure the philosophy of it. We've got cities to save.
(Our story resumes in the skies over Metropolis, where the Bat-Wing, piloted by Batman and Catwoman, flies flanked by Spyro and Cynder.)
Spyro: Shouldn't we be waiting for Kara and Clark?
Catwoman: Or the more important question, shouldn't we be in Gotham?
Batman: Brainiac controls the entire fleet from the Skull Ship. We take it out, we take them all down.
Cynder: I'd be cautious with that thought, Bruce. That was Wonder Woman's logic exactly.
Catwoman: (Checking the radar) Heads up everybody, bogeys from every direction!
(And now the dogfight begins, but just as it does, Superman and Supergirl arrive and start their assist, shooting down ships with their heat vision as the Bat-Wing ducks and dives across the skies, aided by Spyro and Cynder with elemental blasts, eventually leaving room to fight back)
Spyro: We've got an opening, we're going in!
(And before Batman can interject, Spyro and Cynder fly in and fire elemental blasts straight at the Skull Ship, followed shortly by missiles from the Bat-Wing. But just as Batman's plane gets close, the shields of the Skull Ship kick in, sending Batman and Catwoman hurtling towards the ground, only to be caught by Superman.)
Superman: You're welcome.
Cynder: What happened out there?
Batman: Brainiac's ship is creating a concussive feedback loop from the shields.
Spyro: Translation?
Superman: The harder we hit it, the harder it hits back.
(Just as Spyro is about to say something, Supergirl flies up towards the Skull Ship and delivers a powerful blow, only to get caught in the loop Batman just described. Superman, in an attempt to save his cousin, flies up and gets caught in it as well. And as they're blown back, Spyro and Cynder fly after the two Kryptonians, prepared to save them, followed by Batman and Catwoman. As they fly away we transition into the Skull Ship)
Brainiac: The Kryptonians are incapacitated. Complete the collection process.
(And just like that, Brainiac's collection beam intensifies, destroying and digitizing the city of Metropolis in a matter of minutes, much to his delight. As this is finished, we transition over to a rural road, where Superman and Supergirl landed, leaving a giant crater in the road. Superman is first to rise from the impact, and uses his x-ray vision to make sure Supergirl is still alive, before flying up and seeing the crater where Metropolis used to be, just as Spyro and Cynder arrive on the scene)
Superman: (Seeing the damage) NOT AGAIN! IT CAN'T HAVE HAPPENED AGAIN!
Spyro: By the Ancestors...
(Now enraged, Superman flies up and tries breaking through the force field on the Skull Ship again, just as Batman arrives)
Batman: Superman, the force shield concentrates its energy at the point of impact. Try to move faster than it and you just might be able to break it.
Spyro: (Letting a bolt of electricity run down his arm) Maybe some lightning speed will give the speed necessary.
(With that, Spyro and Superman fly up and start hitting the ship at super speed, but inside, Brainiac sees through the strategy)
Brainiac: Creative, yet insufficient. Reduce shield refresh interval to ten femtoseconds.
(At Brainiac's command, the shield drops it's refresh interval and Superman and Spyro are sent flying backwards into the crater where Metropolis once stood, just barely getting back up as Brainiac turns the Skull Ship towards them)
Spyro: (Seeing the intimidating visage of the ship) We are so screwed.
(And screwed they are, as Brainaic's ship fires some sort of weapon on the two of them, which Spyro and Superman can barely with stand. Thankfully, Supergirl is back up and flying by this point, so she and Cynder rush in to try and save their allies, only for a giant mushroom cloud to erupt from the sight, blowing everyone back)
Supergirl: Kal!
Cynder: Spyro!
(As the dust settles, Supergirl and Cynder search all over the place for Spyro and Superman, but are unable to find anything. Shortly afterwards, Batman lands the Batwing, and soon Flash and Lex Luthor arrive to help search.)
Supergirl: I can't hear either of their heartbeats.
Cynder: They've got to be around here somewhere. They can't have just... vanished.
(At this point, Batman tries to intervene, but Cynder just punches him in the face)
Cynder: (With tears streaming down her face) Is this what you wanted when you dragged us into this war?! Superman was our best hope of ending this, and now both he and Spyro are gone. But if I had to be honest, that's probably the best news you've heard all day.
Batman: I'm going to miss Superman too.
Supergirl: You mean that?
Batman: Despite how you've seen us interact, Superman used to be my friend. Someone I trusted with my life. But then the Joker got to him, and I wasn't there for him. I lost my friend Clark that day, and I've missed him ever since. (To Cynder) And that's the reason I couldn't bring another Justice League in last time. Not because I couldn't trust another Superman, but because I couldn't bear to look another Clark Kent in the eyes after failing mine.
(Just as Batman has this sweet moment, Cyborg beams in himself, Green Lantern, and Aquaman.)
Cynder: Arthur? He got Atlantis?
Aquaman: Yes. I should've heard you, and now we all die together.
Batman: It's not over yet, has anyone heard from Blue Beetle or Firestorm?
(At this point though, Wonder Woman has arrived, flanked by Black Adam.)
Wonder Woman: I hope you're happy, Bruce. Kal and I could've beaten Brainaic, now all hope is lost!
Supergirl: Back off, Diana! There are millions of people trapped on that Skull Ship, we need to focus on saving them!
Wonder Woman: (Focusing on Batman) Not with him.
(Now a hologram of Brainiac appears before them, shaking his head in shame)
Brainiac: Such discord. No wonder humans haven't expanded beyond this pathetic blue planet.
Green Lantern: What is this, a bragging rights call?
Brainiac: My Beta Units have taken position all over your planet. In one hour they will explode in unison, burning away this world's atmosphere, rendering the earth a barren ball of rock, unless you surrender Kara Zor-El. She is Krypton's sole survivor, and my last opportunity to study the effects of yellow sunlight on Kryptonian cells.
Cynder: Even if any of us thought you'd honor that deal, we're not taking it.
Brainiac: You have an hour to reconsider.
(And as Brainiac's hologram disappears, the remaining fighters turn to one another, with seemingly no plan.)
Supergirl: Thanks for trying to stand up for the new girl, but maybe I should just go.
Lex Luthor: No. There's a way to break down Brainaic's shields, I'm certain of it. We just have to find it.
Flash: What if we tried shorting out Brainiac's shields?
Cyborg: That would take a tremendous amount of power.
Black Adam: Perhaps science doesn't hold our answer.
Cynder: Adam's got a point. Brainaic's ship may be vulnerable to magic. (To Black Adam) What's your idea?
Black Adam: I can transfer the energy from the Rock of Eternity through a gateway in Kahndaq. But I need a medium to channel it, a magical artifact strong enough to withstand the immense mystical energy.
Aquaman: (Holding up his trident) Will the Trident of Atlantis suffice?
Black Adam: That could definitely work.
Cynder: Okay, we use this magic to get the shield down, then what?
Catwoman: Good point, Cyborg said Brainiac controls that ship with his thoughts.
Cynder: Couldn't you do what you did to Brother Eye to the Skull Ship?
Cyborg: I could make some sort of signal disruptor to block his neural network, and thus disarm the Beta bombs.
Cynder: Then that's our plan. I'll go with Adam and Arthur to Kahndaq.
Black Adam: Agreed.
Cynder: Meanwhile, the rest of you, rendezvous back in the Batcave and start work on the signal jammer.
Batman: Agreed.
Cynder: Then let's get to it.
(And as Cynder takes charge of the team, our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good spot to end for now. So, what happened to Spyro and Superman? Anyone who's played the game, don't spoil it for the rest of us, mostly because I don't entirely know. Writing this story is the first time I'm seeing really anything from it. And now Cynder's taking charge, prepared to take revenge for Spyro if need be. But will this plan with Kahndaq's king work? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
