Remember Me

Chapter Seven

Hot, blistering heat waved over her entire body that made her want to dig through the pavement just to hide away until night had come. Head hung low to keep from having her covered eyes from being hit by the strong rays that came the deathly sun. Even when she wore sun glasses, they never seem to help her sensitive eyes. Neither did the damn clothes she was currently wearing. An overcoat that covered every inch of her body with boots on her feet. The material made of the thickest wool that irritated her skin harshly. However, she couldn't escape the burning that wanted to seer through the fabric into her skin just desperate to crumble into a pile of ash. She couldn't stop her red orbs to glance up at the sky, resisting the urge to hiss like an angry cat at the fire ball hanging up there. It taunted her in ways that made her want to punch through walls of brick to take out her frustration. She hated the day time, hated waking up through this time. Hated having to follow him through the blistering heat.

Sharp teeth dug into the soft flesh of her tongue to spill blood inside her mouth. The sour taste caused her to cringe harshly wanting to spit it all out. Then her red eyes landed on the man before her, walking so causally that made her want to think what an easy life he must have. Both hand hanging from his belt loop lazily, shifting his head from side to side of the alley way to keep look out of other people. She envied how well he took the sun. It wasn't surprising, but still she wished she didn't feel like she was on fire each and every time she walked out to the day time. Not to mention feeling the exhaustion crawling out each pore of her skin.

There came a silent gag once she swallowed all of her blood, asking herself why she had to drink it when she could have spit it out. Of course, the answer was simple. Her red eyes glided over to the man walking before her. If he even so much knew that she spilled her own blood in just a fraction he force her to drink it like all the other times. It was the knowledge that she couldn't stand the taste was enough to have him exploit it to her each time. That was enough to make that mistake of swallowing it on her own.

The walk continued for another long minutes, weaving through alleyways with ease. There was no telling where they were going. He never say a word to her when it comes to these meeting. Where they will be held or what kind of details that need to be discuss. All he did was hum under his breath of some song that was playing on the radio from the cab drive to whatever city this is. There was so many buildings surrounding them, puddles of water found every other step. The stench of garbage invaded her nose that made her throat to constrict in disgust. Grateful for the ability to be able to stop breathing all together just so she didn't have to endear it for however long this would take. Many cars driving by, going fast, honking, the screeches of brakes being pressed too fast. Then there were the sounds of people chatting, walking, eating, everything any normal human would do during a daily biases. She couldn't stand it. She wanted silence, the calm silence of the night, the darkness.

Yes, darkness with trees surrounding her in the distance with a full moon hanging in the sky. Her feet had hesitated to take the next step when a sudden feeling of fright and hope invaded through her thoughts. It wasn't the first time for this to occur. Just as confusing as the last as to why she would have this kind of feeling at all. It wasn't certain whether it was her forgotten memories or the memories of others that caused this. She shrugged it off as usual, thinking it had to be the latter rather than the formal. Having consume so many humans already in such in a short amount of time had cause all the souls to jumble around. Piling on top of each other wanting to escape while at the same time wanting to stay and take control of her own soul. Sometimes, she wasn't certain who exactly she was suppose to be anymore.

He came to a stop by a loading dock. Empty from humans, the only thing there was a white van parked against the loading pad that was empty of anyone and anything. It was batted and beaten to it last life. Dents visible, paint either fading or somehow scrapped off, not to mention mismatched tires. One of the for seem to have a flat. The man had stride by it while still humming under his breath. He didn't say a word about it, but she knew that look of nostalgia running through his blue eyes when he took a look at the van. Of course, she didn't question the look, didn't question anything of him. There was enough to know about him. She didn't need more than what's been given. A boot tapped for a moment before pushing to a spot by the loading dock. She stayed by him at a respectable distance, arms crossed while he tilt his head to the side to watch her carefully like always.

A wicked grin plastered on his face that had her itching to clawed it off of him. She didn't bother facing him grateful that the glasses she put on this morning was a good enough excuse to not look him in the eye. "You remember what to do, right Puppy?" He questioned in such a mockery tone that made her blood boil. Her lips pursed into a stiff line resisting the urge to snap back at him. The memory of rusted nails dipped in holy water dragged across her back was still fresh. There were a few visible scars there in the process of being healed completely. Puppy gave a firm nod to him.

Minutes were counted. Puppy had tapped her finger on the hem of her sleeves. He leaned against a wall, looking through his phone while her red eyes gazed at everything. Every alley seem to look the same no matter where you went. Trash littered all over, painted lines on the ground, fire escape stairs on the sides of the buildings. Graffiti from top to bottom on certain walls. There were a bit fascinating to come across. If only she was alone and had the time to actually appreciate the artwork. Blonde locks got tugged behind her ear as a strong breeze came by to threaten to blow it in front of her face. Puppy tried finding something different with each place, but there was nothing that any other back alley didn't have. It was rather disappointing how humans seem to copy and paste on a lot of things.

Wheels turning on the asphalt ground brought her attention. A black car strolled up to them stopping just before them. Cleaned to shine brightly from the sun that made every pore in her body quiver with disdain. A low hiss was heard from under her lips catching his attention immediately. His light chuckle made her flinch and turn a little bit away from him. This was most certainly be brought up again after this meeting.

The car came to a stop from in front of them. All the windows tented, but with her eyes she was able to see a driver turning to the passenger sitting in the back asking if he needed anything. The same voice meaning the same man they always came to meet. There was a moment of pause as the passenger shook his head politely while proceeding to gather a few things that laid by his side. Puppy had thought it a little strange there. He never brought anything with him for the sake of keeping things off record. A door opened after a short moment of parking the car. The familiar stranger was clad in a suit, not very tall at all, but he certainly didn't look innocent when his dark eyes landed on her. There was a disdain and disgust looming towards her when he caught sight of her. It wasn't the first time for this. Honestly, she felt the same towards him even. Unfortunately, she couldn't show it like he could.

His black hair was gel back, gleaming with the sun beams. A blue collar to match the blue shirt. Black gloves covering his hands that were currently carrying a bulky suitcase. From the looks of how large it was, Puppy would had to take a wild guess to assume that it was some form of weapon hidden inside. The assumption could be wrong, of course, but she highly doubted it. The door got slammed shut before the man took a few steps towards them. She grew tense, never liking the feel of the man. There was something extremely dark and cruel.

"Mr. Douglas." The stranger spoke calmly. Douglas bounced off the wall with arms wide open in mild offense at the greeting he receive by the shorter man.

"Oh, come on Jones. We've known each other long enough to have a proper greeting. A 'hello', or maybe a 'How you been' would be great." Mr. Jones didn't look amused by the familiarity. His hand tighten on the handle of the case. It was the same each time they had a meeting. Douglas always acting like they were best friends while Puppy knew this 'relationship' was far beyond to being acquaintances. Business partners seem to be the better term for this. But even that seems to be more gracious with how Mr. Jones treats Douglas. Puppy learned to not encourage either one of them. She just stood silently, standing tall and ready to attack whenever Douglas tells her to.

"Apparently it's been too long." Mr. Jones responded to him. An even tone contradicting how he actually felt about them.

Puppy was glad for the glasses hiding her red eyes. She stared at Mr. Jones wearily. Though, he might just know she was doing this anyways. With the way he took the simple joy of getting more intense within the first few minutes of their meeting. Douglas grinned before sighing in defeat by the comment. "Alright fine." He said to the short man.

Mr. Jones motioned Douglas to follow him to the trunk where he laid the suitcase. Puppy felt ice blocks wrapped around her feet. It took a lot of effort to drag them along to follow them. She didn't like how this was going already. Usually, there would be a conversation of where they were heading and who their next target would be. Getting all the details then head out as soon as possible. Douglas kept squirming like a kid receiving a gift on Christmas as the case got opened. Blue eyes beaming with glee at the sight of what he saw. Puppy didn't bother to look at it yet. She wasn't sure if she could begin to handle it.

Both men shared a look of understanding. Douglas grinning while Mr. Jones gave a nod to confirm something. "Well, things are starting to get interesting." The blue eyed man said as they started to discuss the details. Puppy tried listening, but she grind in her teeth with frustration. She knew more innocent lives would be taken soon. It caused her stomach to twist as she remembered what has happen thus far. There was not point to any of this, at least that's what she found. All those innocent lives taken without any kind of mercy. There came a strange sense of wanting justice coursing through. But she couldn't find which soul that feeling came from.
