Chapter 9: Pickaxes and Psychopaths

Herobrine

The cave was quiet. Dreadlord was asleep, Nightmare was scouting for Steve and Alex, and I polished my sword. Electricity danced on my fingers, but it didn't harm me. I examined my reflection in the diamond blade. I couldn't help but feel that there was something; something I once knew, and forgot, and need to know again. I don't know. But every time I stare into my own eyes, I get this feeling that I've forgotten something important.

Nightmare teleported in the center of the cave. I glanced up at him. "I have some great news!" He exclaimed. "Dreadlord, wake up!"

Dreadlord groaned and peered with one eye at Nightmare. "What?" He grumbled.

"I know how to do it!"

"Do what?"

"Get rid of Steve and Alex!"

This got my attention. "What?"

"You heard me. When I was out looking for them, I saw a pink player take the two prisoner. I knew it was them because they had no names above their heads.

I lit up. "Really? It was them?"

"Yes! They're now in the pink player's fortress, though. It may be hard to get in."

I scoffed. "For a player, maybe. The place's be a crater by the time I'm done with it."

"Should we go now?" Nightmare asked.

"I see no reason not to." I sheathed my sword and stood up.

"I do," Dreadlord groaned. He pulled the covers over his head.

"Dreadlord, do you want to be paid when we get this done? Then get over here and let's kill some video game characters!" I yelled.

Dreadlord sighed and pushed the blanket away. "Always the voice of motivation, Herobrine."

Alex

The obsidian prison I was in was very, very boring. The cell was adorned with nothing but a bed and a chest full of bread. The door was iron, and a guard was posted outside. Out of sheer boredom, I began stacking three pieces of bread on top of one another to form bread sandwiches. Nether, I really was bored.

Rashain joined the game

BlackPanther76 joined the game

I sat up. Hopefully these two could talk some sense into their lunatic sister.

Catlover321: hello, Ian and Travis.

Rashain: Emily! Why is there a hole in our dragon's wing!?

Catlover321: Ian, I want my pickaxe back. Once u give it to me, ill give u ur pet noobs back.

BlackPanther76: u mean Steve and Alex?

Rashain: kidnapping? This is a new low, even for u.

Catlover321: this is how monarchs keep power. They demonstrate that the most minor of transgressions will be dealt with swiftly and harshly.

Rainbowpanda00054: I think u mean dictator.

Catlover321: stay out of this, Eloise.

BlackPanther76: Steve, Alex, u guys ok?

Alex: yeah, we're good.

I didn't realize until after I sent it how dumb of a move that was. Steve was going to be so confused. We weren't supposed to be able to use chat, only be able to read it. Notch was going to be so mad.

BlackPanther76: good.

BlackPanther76: Emily, I don't have ur pickaxe. I never touched it.

MorbidCartoon59: man, I saw you in the base.

BlackPanther76: that wasn't me that was Rashain.

MorbidCartoon59: I'm not a moron. It was you.

Rashain: lol yeah that was me I stole the pick.

MorbidCartoon59: wait wut?

Catlover321: Morbid I thought you said Panther stole it.

MorbidCartoon59: I thought it was him I saw!

Catlover321: —_—

I wanted to ask if Steve and I could go free, but I wasn't making that mistake again.

Rashain: can we get Steve and Alex back?

Catlover321: fine. If my idiot brother stole it, I'm probably never going to see it again. It's probably at the bottom of a lava pool by now.

Rashain: Herobrine actually stole it.

Herobrine: lol I actually burned everything you had when I killed you. And Steve and Alex belong to me.

I froze in terror. Herobrine. That was Herobrine. Any regard for Notch's ruled went out the window.

Alex: Herobrine!

Rashain: what the hell?

Catlover321: very funny, whoever pulled this off. You've been running around for the past few days, pretending to be Herobrine.

Herobrine: ah, I love it when I run into a player who doesn't believe in me. It makes their fear so much more satisfying when I kill them, delete their worlds, and corrupt their computers. Now, give me Steve and Alex, or I will destroy your fortress, pink player.

Catlover321: Ian, you didn't need to go to such extreme lengths to get ur noobs back.

BlackPanther76: Emily, I'm not doing anything.

Herobrine: they always try to blame it on a prank. A friend is pulling an elaborate prank on them. They keep saying that, even as I shove my sword into their chests.

Rashain: what do you want with Steve and Alex?!

Herobrine: I need them dead. Once they're dead, I can take over the game.

BlackPanther76: what do Steve and Alex have to do with that?

Herobrine: you seriously havent realized? I mean, I knew players were thick, but that's just… yikes.

Herobrine: so are you going to give me what is mine, or will I have to commit mass arson?

Catlover321 left the game

Herobrine: arson it is, then.

A loud explosion tore my attention away from the chat box. New light came from the hallway.

BlackPanther76: STEVE ALEX WHERE R U!?

Alex: 1159 59 6003

Another explosion shook my cell and knocked my bread sandwiches over.

Alex: Hurry!

Barely two seconds later, a pickaxe broke the iron door. Panther stood in the doorway, wearing no armor but a lopsided diamond helmet. "Alex! Where's Steve?!"

"I don't know!" I cried. "They split us up!"

"We'll find him, don't worry," he reassured me.

BlackPanther76: Steve where R U?

Herobrine: yeah, Steve. Come out come out wherever you are :)

"What's with Herobrine's obsession with you? Assuming this is the real Herobrine," Panther said.

Before I could answer, a block of tnt blew up a wall. I was blown backwards several blocks, but Panther didn't survive.

BlackPanther76 blew up

I swore and looked around the rapidly deteriorating base. "STEVE! STEVE WHERE ARE YOU!?" I screamed.

"Right here."

I whirled around, but it wasn't Steve. Those were not his eyes. "Herobrine! Where's Steve!?"

"I was about to ask you the same question." Herobrine ran his tongue over his teeth. "Well, I could always find him after you're dead." He draw his sword.

I was defenseless, weaponless, and Steveless. I backed away from the deranged white-eyed Glitch, but there was only so far I could go before I reached the edge of a large crater in the wall and floor. I glanced down to see lava flowing at the bottom. Herobrine chuckled menacingly. "Notch sent you two here to kill me, huh? Who's the hunter now? You're unarmed, alone, and scared. Where's your creator when you need him?"

Notch seriously has a sense of humor.

Notch joined the game.
