Prologue: When Time was Born

Kingdom of Solkaria, Kingdom Valley Zone

An ominous darkness makes for a quiet night that covers the skies of the abandoned Solkarian palace that has since been flooded for many years, but the night becomes illuminated by a beacon of energy emitting from atop a rooftop. That glow is emanating from the purple Chaos Emeralds, one of the seven mystical Chaos Emeralds floating in midair by its own power. It appears to be displaying a vision. Visons from the past, present, and future. Displaying key figures that have the power to change the world: The Golden Avenger, Iron Man. The First Avenger, Captain America. The Amazing Avenger, Spider-Man. The Blue Blur, Sonic the Hedgehog. The Ultimate Lifeform, Shadow the Hedgehog. The Time-Traveling Psychic, Silver the Hedgehog. The Queen of Chaos, Scarlet Witch. The Guardian of Time, Cia. The Conqueror of Time, Kang the Conqueror. And the Eternal Pharaoh, Apocalypse.

Those visions display those individuals at their best, fighting against good or evil across time and space and showcasing them overcoming the impossible and inspiring others to fight for a better tomorrow. But then, the visions shift. Switching to beings that crave for order over the chaos the humans breed and will stop at nothing for them to be crushed. Beings, that were all born from the same flame: The Flames of Disaster, Iblis. The Devil Shadows, Mephiles the Dark. The Devourer of Time, the Time Eater. And the God Flame that created them along with time itself from the instant it hatched from its egg, Solaris.

"Before creation itself, there was a singularity in the shape of an egg." says a mysterious narrator as they continue explaining the origins of the God Flame, "Then…boom. The Big Bang cracked open the egg and fanned its Flames of Time across the virgin universe. That is when he was born. The Legendary God Flame known as…Solaris. His only purpose in his eternal life was to obtain ultimate knowledge, and the best way to obtain such knowledge is by devouring the histories of entire worlds…entire universes…as he makes his way towards the beginning of time. But, during one of his destructive expeditions, he came across a universe infused with chaos that dared to defy his order of destiny. The Chaos Emeralds, seven mystical gemstones of origin unknown even to him! To learn their secrets, Solaris disguised himself as the 'Flame of Hope' for a Royal Family of that world that was in possession of an Emerald. But while he was studying their Emerald, the humans had the nerve to study him. Break him in two. Solaris was furious, and sought to devour their universe as divine retribution. But resistance came in the form of three Hedgehogs, each hailing from different eras, and empowering themselves with the very Chaos Emeralds Solaris sought to understand, and failed to do so when their power was used to destroy him. Or so the Hedgehogs thought. Solaris was reborn into different forms after each defeat, each one terrified of chaos itself and humanity's potential to harness spectacular power that can be used to dominate the cosmos, and in turn, dominate him. Now, his newest rebirth is soon. After eons of scheming, manipulating events behind the scenes, this so-called Time War is coming to an end. An end where all will be consumed by the Flames."

Once the narration was done, the Chaos Emerald stops floating and falls to the hand of its owner. The Devil Shadows himself in the form of a hedgehog, Mephiles. He stands on the rooftop, staring at his Emerald with stoic interest of its true potential. A potential that actively eludes him to this day. What's more, Mephiles isn't alone. No, he is accompanied by someone just as terrifying. A kindred spirit. The mysterious narrator himself. A red demon sporting devilish boots and a cloak and a mischievous smile as he suddenly appears behind the devil hedgehog.

"I'm right, am I? Those ARE your origins and goals in life?" The Mystery Demon playfully asked him.

Mephiles scoffs emotionlessly as he replies, "The answer is yes, and no."

"Come now, Mephiles. You can trust me with your deepest darkest secrets. Even back when you were Solaris, we've been friends for many eons." The Mystery Demon expresses with smiles, which are completely ignored by the more serious demon.

"I don't recall you as a friend." says Mephiles as he finally turns to face his associate, "But you are the one person that I tolerate the most…Mephisto." He greets his old ally, Mephisto, the demonic ruler of his own hellish dimension.

The Demon Prince smiles wickedly, "Our names are pretty similar. So when will you be reunited with your other half? You are worshipped as the God of Time. Surely you know exactly the date and time."

"Soon, is all I will say." Mephiles replied ominously. "We have located where the Avengers concealed Iblis. We will retrieve him right after the remaining players enter this timespace in a few short hours, then, all hell will break loose. You are free to join the carnage. Many souls will be ready for harvest." He offers his ally to join the upcoming apocalypse.

"Tempting, but I will pass." Mephisto quipped.

"Right. As if I believe that." Mephiles calls out on his lie.

Mephisto grins, "You know me so well. But to be honest for once in my life, I want to wait and watch how things will turn out. A lot of great powers will be played in the coming war and who knows how it'll all turn out. Maybe you?" He asks his friend for answers.

"Whatever happens makes little difference. As long the stage is set for me and Iblis to reunite into our true power." Mephiles replies, remaining emotionless as he shows his pal his Chaos Emerald as he continues speaking, "What I DO know is that the Chaos Emeralds will be the key to the future, and the key to my reunification."

"That is assuming no one seals you back in the Scepter of Darkness." Mephisto quipped.

"Let them try. I've grown out of it." Mephiles implies that he has grown too powerful for his former vessel to contain him anymore.

"There ARE other ways to seal the darkness. Do not underestimate mankind's ingenuity." Mephisto warns him with an oddly serious tone.

But forever stoic to hide any emotion that could respond to that warning, Mephiles turns away from his demonic pal to look up at the moon, "Tell me something I don't know." The Devil Hedgehog responded. "Even in defeat, I become stronger. Those opposing me reveal themselves. With each battle my knowledge grows. In time, I will know their thoughts before they do. Thought…Among the most powerful force in the multiverse. Stronger than steel, faster than light. It cannot be outmaneuvered or driven away by madness. It is my weapon, and I will use it to free Iblis and crush all that oppose me. The Avengers. The Hedgehogs of Chaos. Nexus Beings. It is inevitable…for time is on my side." He proclaims with creepy ominous, completely ready for the ultimate war that'll involve the whole universe and space-time.

KFX Here: Mephiles and Mephisto. Makes sense for two demons with names based off the fallen angel, Mephistopheles, are relatively good pals. Don't expect Mephisto to play a huge role in this massive story, or appear at all after this prologue. His cameo purpose was to simply expand on Solaris's history, as a planned sideplot of this story is exploring Solaris's character, his origins and goals.
