Act 2 Issue 7: Hydra Hijinks

Liberty Legion Safe House, Future Realm. Chrono World

The mission to capture Tyler Stone was a success and the Liberty Legion is one step closer in stopping the Hydra Empire. The only way to stop them and their superweapon is by getting Stone to talk, but it won't be easy. The corrupt businessman is imprisoned in an interrogation cell, waiting impatiently for someone to show up and get the interrogation done and over with. He sits behind a tabletop with his arms crossed, glancing suspiciously at his surroundings for a camera or anything remotely interesting to observe since he knows escape is impossible. All he does find is nothing but a door that slowly opens before his eyes, revealing to them Spider-Man 2099, standing at the other side before walking in silent and stoic as he's in charge of interrogation because of his complicated hate relationship with his father.

Stone snarls at his most hated nemesis, "Spider-Man…" before scoffing out a confident smirk, "Honestly I shouldn't be THAT surprise you survived Kang's little invasion on our timeline. Criminals ALWAYS have to be persistent. And here you are, working together with other criminals in imprisoning and interrogating the most powerful businessman in the world. Either you're all very brave, or very foolish."

"You're the fool, Stone." says the calm Miguel, standing at the other side of his father's table while staring down at him with more mocking words, "The foolish criminal that's been plaguing our era with so much of your trash. The Public Eye. The Phantom Ruby. Guillotine. Metallix. And now this historic mess. All for what, to make a quick buck? Why join forces with Hydra? With Kang?"

"You just answered your own questions. To make a profit." Stone answered truthfully, which annoys his son enough to growl. The CEO quips, "Don't be mad. I'm a businessman. It's what we do to survive. Without my business, I am nothing. Without Alchemax, our future is nothing."

"It IS the moment you sold our future to devils!" Spidey retorted.

"And in payment they will create a better future. That's how business works." Stone claims through his annoying arrogance.

Suddenly, Miguel slams on the table retorting, "Hydra is NOT the future! They aren't the ones to sell our destines! It's not something that should be bought but EARNED! We as individuals are responsible for building our OWN future!"

Stone simply laughs at his claims, "You really think so? Let me tell you a little secret on how the world works. Businesses run everything. The government does whatever business wants, and business wants everything and everyone to fall into a single line or else there'll be consequences." The corrupt CEO glares at the webslinger with, "It's about order, Spider-Man. We are responsible for keeping stability. To prevent maniacs from causing trouble. Without businesses like Alchemax, and organizations like Hydra, the world would simply spiral out of control. Too much freedom is dangerous. The people should be controlled on what they should do and what they shouldn't do."

"You may be right…But we won't take orders from you OR Hydra! And you're going to help us stop the latter!" Miguel retorted, standing firm with his belief of freedom.

"I won't talk." Stone leans back on his seat, already refusing to tell him any of Hydra's secrets.

"Oh you will…" snarks Miguel, right before gesturing to the door opening for Robyn Hill as she enters the cell, "'Cause my new friend here can help one be VERY persuasive."

Robyn takes a seat across Tyler to offer him a handshake, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Stone. My name is Robyn Hill and I would like for you to be extremely honest with me."

Her greeting came off as a little suspicious but it didn't stop Tyler from accepting her polite gesture. The moment they shake hands, however, he notices their hands become coated in a pale lilac glow that unnerves him. He wants to pull out but their hands are suddenly tied with webbing as Spider-Man looms behind his father and threatens to slit his throat with his claws if he doesn't cooperate with the Robyn.

"I have a few questions for you. And if you don't want to be sent to the hospital as a bloody mess, you will answer them truthfully." Robyn then confidently smiles at the frightened CEO as she leans forward asking him, "Now tell us…What is Red Skull planning?"

Meanwhile…

Peggy Carter stands alone on a balcony staring out through a window of the quiet Downtown. Her hands hold onto the railing while her heart relaxes from everything she has gone through up until now. It isn't easy. She reminisces happy moments of her past, from her first joining the Strategic Scientific Reserve to, of course, her first meeting with Steve Rogers. The partners-turned-lovers that fought so many battles during World War II, with their relationship ending in tragedy when Steve supposedly died in battle. Those painful memories almost become too much for, so she lets out a deep sigh to calm herself as she continues to depressingly stare out the window, unaware that she is being watched by Shadow and the unmasked Steve Rogers from nearby.

"You should go talk to her." Shadow suggest to his friend.

"What should I even talk to her about?" Steve asks, rightful feeling nervous since he hasn't spoken to Peggy in decades.

"Anything that doesn't mention you dating her great-niece, who we recently found out is also the counterpart of your daughter from an alternate timeline." Shadow dryly quipped.

BGM-Sonic Adventure 2 OST-Reflection

Steve awkwardly rubs his head, "Yeah…That would lead to things being more awkward than it already is. Still can't believe that in another world, I have a family. At times I thought that would be impossible. For most of my life I've been fighting in a war that never ends. Just imagine…if I never went into the ice…and GUN never raided the ARK…How different would our lives be?" He asks a serious question to the black hedgehog.

That question actually did get Shadow thinking, deeply, of his life where the ARK incident never occurred and he wasn't encapsulated for over 50 years. He thinks of his best friend, Maria, and her grandfather as well as his creator, Professor Gerald Robotnik. He imagines themselves as a happy family playing with each other, visiting Mobius for the first time, eating dinner with Rouge the Bat and E-123 Omega. The perfect life Shadow would want, but tragically never received because of that one incident that ruined everything for him. Such thoughts depressed Shadow for a moment, causing him to look down and away from a concerned Steve.

"Sorry! I shouldn't have mentioned that!" Steve quickly apologized.

"It's okay…" Shadow looks at him with a smile, "They were good thoughts. We're both Men out of Time. The past is the past. Even in this world we should respect it and use it as inspiration to fight for a better future. Still…" They both turn at Peggy, who still hasn't noticed their presence, "That doesn't mean we can't give it some closure. Just don't be awkward about it, Steve."

Steve smiles at him, "I'll try."

BGM End

Following Shadow's advice, Steve builds up the courage to finally confront Peggy at the balcony. He stands beside her with his hands holding on the railing, before mustering up even more courage to begin their conversation with, "So…uh, how are you?" some obvious awkwardness.

Peggy awkwardly looks at him with, "I'm the one who should be asking. Although…anything new doesn't sound quite right. Just…HOW did you survive that day?"

BGM-Mega Man ZX Tunes OST-Fragments

"Erskine's serum and pure luck helped me survive the plane explosion. Was left frozen in the Artic for over 60 years until the Avengers found me. The 21st Century, and this world, are new to me too." Steve briefed.

"Before I was brought here, it was almost 1950." Peggy sighs, "After everything that happened in the 1940s it felt…huge. I couldn't help wondering what the new decade would bring, but I never imagined…" She then emotionally turns to her former lover with a sorrowful, "I thought you were dead, Steve. I mourned you…The whole world mourned you…I thought I was over you…A-And now I also found out we have a daughter in another world…"

Tears begin streaming down Peggy's eyes as a concerned Steve takes a step forward. "Peggy, I…But I'm here now." He said to cheer her up, if only a little bit.

The former lovebirds stare at each other for a moment as each wonder what they should build upon this. Peggy has something in mind as she lifts herself to the soldier's face to give him something. Steve doesn't mind one bit as he stands there patiently while looking deep into the eyes of his old flame. And just when the two were about to embrace with a kiss…

"Cap! Pegs!" A sudden Boom Sonic rudely interrupts them with obliviousness to their lovely moment, "They just got done interrogatin' Stone and your kid wants us all in the war room STAT. We're finally gonna form a plan to take down Hydra!" He smiles at them.

"Music to my ears." Steve returns a smile.

"And music I look forward dancing to." quips Peggy, exchanging smiles with her ex-boyfriend.

At the War Room…

BGM-Sonic Adventure 2 OST-Strategy

"Had to be a little rough at points, but we got Stone to spill the beans on Hydra's endgame!" says Robyn, standing in front of the room alongside Spidey 2099 with a mission briefing to the rest of the Liberty Legion surrounding them.

Miguel continues, "Using a superweapon built by Alchemax, Hydra plans to invade each region in Chrono World through cyberspace. The internet basically. They want to be sneaky about this. Once they hack into the core program, it's over. They'll be allowed to hack into military networks to launch missiles on heavily-populated cities. Cripple our communication infrastructure and leave us open to a surprise attack. Simply put, Skull's using the future to conquer the past by any means necessary…" He then points his finger at a holographic map of the United States Region of Chrono World, "Starting with the United States of old."

"That's insane!" Boom Tails comments with a horrified look.

"So was Hitler, but he gotten pretty far with less than Shmidt has." Peggy quipped.

"Skull's working with technology beyond most our capabilities and was in control of the States while as Dell Rusk. He knows the country's weaknesses. He gets to the US Capital mainframe, he'll wipe out all our forces in that region with no resistance." Shadow stated with arms crossed.

"How much time do we have?" Daredevil 2099 asked.

"According to my new best friend, under 24 hours." Robyn answered.

"That's not much." Ms. Marvel noted.

"We can beat the clock if we know where he is!" Boom Sonic said, wanting to know where Skull is hiding.

Falcon points to a holographic spy photo of a large mechanical island floating above an even larger floating island, "Before it was Alchemax's floating city Valhalla, now is Hydra's Flying Island base floating above Onyx Island. Both islands under heavy guard."

"How are we to proceed? It is not like we can just knock on the front door." asked the purple/silver-colored Gemerl 3099 in a robotic tone, the advanced war machine of justice and protector of rabbits in his reality.

BGM-Captain America: The First Avenger OST-Motorcycle Mayhem

"Why not?" says Steve, causing the room to go silent as everyone turns to him and his plan to take down Hydra once and for all begins with, "That's exactly what we're gonna do."

Colosseum Highway Zone, Onyx Island

Flying through the skies above these ancient Roman ruins of this Zone is a Quinjet piloted by Steve Rogers, with his co-pilot being Robyn Hill in charge of operating their weapons. The two are accompanied by a flying Gemerl 3099, a Hulk 2099 performing mighty leaps across the area, and Shadow riding a futuristic motorcycle on the ground as they race each other towards the terrifying Hydra Island in the sky.

Before triggering their sensors, Cap signals Gemerl to initiate their secret plan, which is having Gemerl use his highly-powerful holographic technology to project hundreds of Quinjets to trick the enemy into fighting the army with their full might when they should really focus on the Gizoid. The plan worked as an enemy fleet is deployed from the island to battle the Quinjets, only for their attacks to pass through the holograms while the real Quinjet blast their way through the army with little resistance as it heads for Hydra Island.

Gemerl has their backs and is amazingly do well against the massive army with his futuristic arsenal, blowing up dozens of ships and flying bots with no trouble whatsoever. He slices through the fleet with his dual handheld energy blades, bombards his foes with relentless energy blasts, countering an attack with a Spin Attack slam before throwing a ship at a squad and blowing them up with a frightening barrage of missiles.

Leading the ground assault is Shadow, who's being chased by several Hydra soldiers on their hover vehicles. The stoic hedgehog uses his bike to leave behind mines to kill them and continues for Hydra Island. After driving through a loop, he is quickly blocked by a Hydra Dreadnaught. With a fierce scowl, Shadow drives at full speed towards the giant robot trying everything in its power to destroy him until, at the last second, the hedgehog jumps off his bike, allowing it to crash and obliterate the Dreadnaught while he safely flips over the massive explosion.

But while he's still falling, Shadow is about to be assaulted by three Hydra Adaptoids. But before they could attack, the three are instantly destroyed by a single, devastating flying punch from Hulk 2099. The Gamma Defender lets a ferocious roar as he rampages through the massive hordes of Hydra goons throwing everything they got at him with no success thanks to Shadow assisting in clearing them out with light-speed attacks and teleporting blows, giving Hulk space for one mighty jump into the skies that sends him closer towards the entrance of Hydra Island.

As the Defender nears the fortress, Shadow warps himself to his side and spinballs into his hand for their ultimate team attack. Shadow builds up his chaos energy while Hulk infuses him with his gamma strength until they are both done, leading to Shadow shouting, "Chaos…"

"GAMMAAAA BLAAAAAAST!" Hulk finishes with a monstrous yell, hurling the hyper-powered hedgehog towards the island with so much destructive force that upon impacting the entrance, the incredible explosion tilts the entire island for a moment, causing soldiers that weren't ready to slide off the island to their deaths.

Shadow and Hulk stand side-by-side, stern and menacing after arriving on Hydra Island, which only mean things are about to even more challenging from here on out, as evident with a massive swarm of Hydra soldiers rush to keep the two heroes at bay.

In the skies, Cap's group were still holding their own against the Hydra fleet until disaster struck. An energy cannon protruding from the island fires a powerful shot that knocks out Gemerl in one shot whilst disabling his holograms, leaving the real Quinjet alone against a weakened fleet. Multiple energy cannons try to blast the Quinjet out of the sky but keeps missing thanks to Steve's impressive piloting skills, but it wasn't impressive enough when one of the shots finally cuts through the wings thus forcing Steve and Robyn to eject before they crash.

Right as the soldier and huntress land near the monster and hedgehog, Hulk is knocked out by multiple Adaptoids blasting him with plasma cannons. Shadow survives just a little longer until an Adaptoid manage to paralyze and entrap him inside an energy bubble. And with Gemerl already knocked out, Steve and Robyn were powerless when a massive energy horde corners them, forcing them all to surrender.

Later inside Hydra Island…

Cuffed and disarmed of their weapons, Cap's group is dragged into a chamber where they will receive harsh punishment from their worst enemy. As Steve glances up at grotesque portrait of Red Skull, the Hydra Leader himself steps from the shadows to confront them with, "Arrogance may not be a uniquely American trait…but I will say you do it better than anyone else." Skull leans in on the heroes, with teeth gleaming in his crimson face, "There are limits to what you can do, Captain. What even the Ultimate Lifeform can do." He glances at them both, with Shadow countering with a scary scowl that doesn't scare the crimson cranium.

"Big words from the man who FAILED to control every superhero with his Registration Act." Robyn mocks him of his failures as Dell Rusk.

Unfazed by her taunt, Red Skull retorts, "You were quite the stubborn woman in my affairs, Ms. Hill. I spent the last year implementing my rise within Amerius. Though difficult, with the right monetary backing from our 'mutual friend' and their time travel technology, I earned my seat in the Council." He reveals how he became Dell Rusk, simply thanks to Kang. "Like I told the Captain before all of this, this was ALL for your BENEFIT. Freedom must feel fear. And fear leads to control. I was wrong about the country. The wonderful 'United' States of Amerius. It has all the resources already in place. It has the right attitudes laced within. They just need to be exploited. To become the perfect nation, Americus just needs a little push in the right direction, like how I perfected this future."

Enraged by his corruptive ideals, Steve snarls at him, "You really are insane!"

BGM-Captain America: The First Avenger OST-Invasion

"The world resented my genius and tried to deny a better future. A mistake I will MAKE them regret." declared Skull before smashing Steve in the face. The guards grip Steve's arms, holding him up as Skull continues battering him, much to the horror of his teammates as they are held powerless to do anything to save him.

"ROGERS!" Shadow exclaimed.

"STEVE!" Robyn shouted.

Again and again Skull keeps battering the Captain, beating him to a bloody mess. After a long time, Skull finally steps back to allow his mortal enemy a moment to catch his breath before the second round. But even after being beaten and left exhausted, the panting Steve still has the strength to give his foe a mocking smile alongside, "I can do this all day."

"I believe you can. But…" Skull puts out a gun at his face with the intent to kill him for good, "I am on a schedule."

Just like before at Washington D.C., Cap is left at Skull's mercy. He's weakened. His friends are unavailable to save him. It would seem all hope is lost for the Future Realm as Steve stares down the gun. But even when it seems that there is no hope, Steve is the type of man that won't give up until he brings back that hope. And luckily, he thought of the perfect plan that would bring it all back with a simple, "So am I."

It was that single line that horrified Skull to realize that the raid was simply a distraction from the real invasion, as he sharply turns to his window to spot Falcon leading an army of flying soldiers towards him. Skull spins back to Steve and attempts to shoot him, only for an invisible Spider-Man 2099 to reveal himself and claw the gun off his hand before kicking the madman to a wall.

Falcon's team smash through the windows and quickly take out the guards holding Steve's team hostage, all while Red Skull flees from the scene. "The plan worked! Managed to sabotage their defense system and power reactor while you guys kept them busy!" Miguel said, revealing what their real plan to take down Hydra Island was.

"CAP!" Falcon finds his friend's shield lying on the ground and tosses it to him, "You might need this!"

"Thanks!" Cap straps on the shield and races after Skull alongside Robyn, Shadow, Hulk, Gemerl, and now Spider-Man.

The armies of Hydra race throughout their base to find any other Liberty Legionnaire that also found their way into Hydra Island, such as a Door exploding for an army led by Boom Sonic, Black Widow 2099, Hercules 2099, and Joanna Greenleaf as they immediately take on a Hydra horde. "We're in! Assault team, GO!" Joanna shouted through their comms.

Outside the base, the other forces of the Liberty Legion are then teleported to Hydra Island. The other Happy Huntresses. Other Future Heroes such as Strange 2099 and Ravage 2099. And Avengers like Scarlet Witch, Blake, and Boom Tails have all come to join the big war against the Hydra Empire. Led by Captain Sharon and her mother, the former raises her lance heroically while shouting her forces to, "MOVE OUT!"

Every soldier and hero of the Liberty Legion rush towards their enemies in the Hydra Empire with everything they have. One faction takes out several soldiers in the most devastating ways and vice versa, but clearly the Legion have the advantage as they quickly enter the base to take out more men. One Hydra Soldier even shouts, "Cut off one head, two more shall-!" before they are humorously blasted to their defeat by Sharon's lance.

"Let's go find two more." She quipped.

Meanwhile, Red Skull runs down a corridor while Steve's group tears after him, racing around the corner only for Steve to block his vicious barrage from his gun. Steve hurls his shield, having it whirl down the corridor after Skull only for it to be caught between closing doors, holding them open. The heroes take off after Skull, but a Super Hydra Adaptoid stomps out of intersecting corridor blocking their way with flamethrowers that force them to take cover. Thankfully, Peggy came to their rescue with a rifle that she relentlessly fires that weakens the Adaptoid for Sharon to rush in and impale it, destroying the wicked machine.

Steve's group step out of their cover, running straight up to Peggy's group. "You're late." Steve jokes with his ex-girlfriend.

"Tell me you're not complaining." Peggy quipped. The ex-lovers exchange loving looks that kinda embarrass their daughter before Peggy says, "Weren't you about to…?"

"Right." The distracted Steve awkwardly remembers his mission to stop Skull.

"Can I come?" Sharon blurted out to her father. "I-If you don't mind." She requested, being a little awkward about it as she wants to spend time with a version of her father that isn't old and retired from active duty.

Steve exchanges another glance at a smiling Peggy, who supports their daughter's request. Though he is still weirded out about having a daughter that looks exactly like his current girlfriend, Steve accepts her request with a welcoming, smiling nod, "Sure. Just try to keep up with your old man." Smiling herself, Sharon follows her father and his team to the door where his shield is stuck. After grabbing it, both Captain Americas leads their team in the hunt for Red Skull as the doors slam behind them.

Peggy watches her family leave to the final battle. And while she would've loved to join them, she has other responsibilities that are more important. She just prays that she doesn't lose them both like how she originally lost Steve in the past.

BGM-Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) OST-The Resurrection of Mephiles

'What a touching family reunion.' says a creepy voice that suddenly speaks inside Peggy and her team's minds through telepathy, 'One so tragic that it's lovely watching it fall into despair.' The mysterious voice creeps them out further with their calm laughter.

"Who is that?" A frightened Fiona Thyme asked.

Boom Tails looks to have recognized the voice as he remarks, "That voice. Is that…?"

Suddenly, the normal soldiers in Peggy's squad are being swallowed up whole by a large pool of darkness that functions like a black hole. They all scream for help as they struggle hopelessly to free themselves. Jani-Ca reaches out for a soldier to rescue, but even with her incredible strength, she failed to save the man from the darkness as he and the rest of their men are completely consumed by it.

Left in both shock and horror by this mysterious dark force that killed their men, the female echidna remarks, "I wasn't able to save even one. Who-?"

Before she could finish, a mysterious shadow attempts to murder Peggy Carter. And would've succeeded, if Scarlet Witch didn't repel the attack with her magic at the very last second to reveal the assailant's identity as, "Mephiles!"

"If it isn't the Nexus Being again." Mephiles the Dark calmly greets her, causing her confusion as Wanda still doesn't know anything about Nexus Beings or how she is somehow one of these mysterious entities.

Peggy points her rifle at the mysterious demon to ask, "And just what are YOU supposed to be?"

Mephiles snarks, "Don't tell me Howard Stark hasn't told you from the point in history where you're from. I am part of the great power he discovered at the bottom of the ocean. The Eternal Flames that he theorized could distort time and control fate…" He creepily raises his finger like an undead zombie to point directly at Peggy, "A power…that could even bring back a lost love."

Peggy gasps in shock, remembering the day Howard Stark told her about finding the Sol Vessel while he was searching for the missing Captain America, as well as the mysterious God Flames contained within. "You are…" She said to Mephiles while still in shock of his true identity.

"All this chaos and destruction throughout time…brought upon from your wish to reunite with a man that pretends he could live without war." taunted Mephiles, pinning the blame on Peggy Carter for indirectly causing the Time War simply because she wanted to use Solaris's power to revive her love, Steve Rogers, as he continues to mess with her head, "This goes to show just how DANGEROUS emotions are and how intelligence is wasted on humans."

Mephiles's words did the trick and were successful in upsetting Peggy, making her believe that her wish to see Steve again is what led to their timelines being conquered as they speak. "Enough of your lies! Just what is your grudge against humanity?" Scarlet Witch intervenes, sternly noting Mephiles taking pleasure at psychologically tormenting his victims.

"Humans are unnecessary, and so they should perish." Mephiles answered calmly.

BGM-Mega Man Zero 3 OST-Curse of Vile (Remastered)

"Who are you to decide that?!" Wanda retorted.

Mephiles answers with this, "I was once a part of the Great Flames that were born along with the universe, with the authority to judge and deliver fate from a much higher perspective than you do. I witnessed each world, each universe, and the truth of all things. That wields greater understanding. Wisdom. I noticed the results and decided that mortals should be destroyed. You humans were born chaotic. A mistake by cosmic gods that thought it was a good idea to grant your kind access to superhuman abilities. How many times have your kind endangered the world for a selfish reason? All in the name of freedom? That ideal should die along with you all and that fool, Steve Rogers. Then the universe will truly be a utopia." He claims, enraging the heroes.

Blake steps forward to ask him, "Really? Then why help those that just want to conquer mortals?"

"Right now I just seek to be whole again. Think of this ordeal as a test whether humanity should live or die. Same reason can be said for why Faunus were born. To be part of a test that you failed LONG ago." Mephiles claimed, stunning the Faunus with this claim.

"Huh?" Fiona remarked.

"What?" Blake retorted.

"Your kind have always questioned why they are hated by humanity, and the answer is simple. You are all TRASH, born from a God's hatred for animals that must be eradicated in the most gruesome of ways. From target practice to sacrificial lambs, THAT'S what you are and always will be!" Mephiles gave a malicious answer that may or may not be truthful just like his other statements. Truthful or not, those words hurt the Faunus huntresses as they really want to kill him for saying such things.

"I think I've had JUST about enough of you!" says Peggy as she relentlessly shoots Mephiles with her rifle.

Her bullets do flinch but that's about the best she could do against the immortal demigod. After taking all those shots, the Devil Hedgehog falls into a puff of smoke, laughing psychotically, "Ohahahahaha! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…" as he disappears and leaves the heroes both horrified and confused as they wonder if he really was telling the truth.

With Red Skull…

The Hydra Supreme rushed into the hanger bay where his ultimate weapon is stored, a giant futuristic battle mech by the name of the Cyber Sleeper and may be inspired by the Death Egg Robot as it slightly resembles Red Skull, most apparent with a head resembling his crimson cranium. The madman boards his mech right as Legion soldiers arrive and try to shoot him dead.

Red Skull frantically activates his mech, causing the mother computer to speak, 'Cyber Sleeper online. React output at maximum. Course plotted. Cyberspace portal open.' A massive portal into cyberspace opens before the Cyber Sleeper. Red machines holding it in place detach and recede into the walls, as the computer announces, 'Take off!' The Cyber Sleeper proceeds to take off for the portal. Despite the best efforts of the Liberty Legion, they can't stop it from taking off, either they're too distracted fighting Hydra Soldiers or their weapons can't penetrate the robot's armor.

But just then, Captain America's group is seen running along a catwalk near the Cyber Sleeper and jumping onto the mech, landing just on its metal leg before it could accelerate too much and they miss their chance to board and stop Skull. The Cyber Sleeper zooms off into the portal, having it close behind him to prevent any other pesky hero stopping him from destroying the United States.

BGM-Marvel Future Fight OST-Hail Hydra!

The Cyber Sleeper flies at maximum speed through the digital realm as it makes its way towards the United States Capital mainframe. If Red Skull deletes the core program that controls the data flow, the country will plunge into chaos and be much easier to conquer by the hands of the Chronos Corps.

Captain America won't allow that. Both Captain Americas will not allow their country to be destroyed by this red menace. Together, Steve and Sharon lead their team into the head where the Red Skull himself waits patiently for them on his throne.

"I must give you credit, Captain. You ARE persistent." Skull compliments his longtime enemy.

"Enough, Shmidt. It's over. We're taking back the future!" declared Steve while the heroes take their battle stances.

Skull scoffs, "You have always been a formidable warrior, Captain. When will you finally admit that Hydra is the best place to put your unique skills to use?"

"They are perfect for target practice." quipped Sharon, firing a powerful blast from her lance at Skull. The effort was meaningless as Skull accesses the Solaris Master System and empowers himself with a Dark Aura that nullifies her attack. Reborn as the Dark Skull, the villain unleashes a powerful shockwave that blows away his foes, even opening a portal that catches Shadow, Gemerl, and Hulk.

"SHADOW!" Steve exclaimed.

The portal drops the three outside the Cyber Sleeper as it continues towards the US Capital. Shadow snarls, "If it reaches the mainframe, we're finished! Stop it by any means necessary!" The three heroes catch up with the Sleeper and attack it with everything in their arsenal from Shadow's Homing Attacks to Gemerl's energy blasts. Their efforts couldn't slow it down one bit except for Hulk's destructive uppercut which knocks it back a bit, only for the Sleeper to unleash a decimating energy blast from its chest cannon that blows away Hulk across cyberspace as retaliation and continues its trek to the Capital.

"There is no way we can crack the external armor. Not in time to save the Capital. Analysis suggest we disable the main CPU located in its head." Gemerl proposed a plan that can surely destroy the Sleeper.

"Hear that, Captain?" Shadow speaks to Steve via comlink, "We'll slow it down from out here! The rest of you get through Skull and destroy the CPU!" He orders his allies inside the Sleeper before continuing his full frontal assault alongside Gemerl and the returning Hulk.

BGM-Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 OST-The Fight Rages On

Back inside the Cyber Sleeper, Spidey 2099 viciously web-yanks Dark Skull off his throne into a rising uppercut from Steve's shield that knocks him down. The Webslinger follows up with a web-slamming punch, only for Skull to vanish through a portal in the floor before his face could be cracked open. He reappears from another portal, this time summoning a squadron of Hydra soldiers by his side as he shoots Miguel out cold with his empowered rifle before commanding his forces to bombard the others. Both Caps defend with their respective shields, giving their friends cover while allowing Robyn to eliminate the Adaptoids of the group with explosive crossbow bolts to their heads. This left an opening for Steve to hurl his shield, having it ricochet between his enemies before knocking the rifle from Dark Skull's hands, allowing Sharon to put her weight behind a hefty shield bash that smacks the Nazi aside.

Skull grunts at her with annoyance while wiping blood off his lips. "Like father like daughter…" He noted, already aware of this Sharon being Steve's daughter from another reality, "Two can play at that game."

Suddenly, Sharon is blown away by a rocket exploding behind her. "SHARON!" Steve shouts in concern for his daughter.

The monster that nearly killed his daughter jumps out of the shadows to confront him and his allies. They are a beautiful red-haired woman dressed with a red skeleton vest and black leather pants and has multiple weapons stored on her back. "That's…!" A shocked Robyn exclaims upon recognizing Skull's newest ally.

"Sin! Red Skull's daughter!" Steve identifies her as the heir of the Hydra Empire and the cursed offspring of Red Skull.

"One wouldn't believe that upon looking at that beautiful face…" quips Miguel upon recovering from Skull's attack.

With a malicious chuckle, Sin walks to her father's side as she says, "It's only fitting that I'm here. Daughter versus daughter, father versus father, BATTLING to the death to prove who is the supreme family!"

Sporting herself a creepy smile, Sin powers herself up with her own Dark Aura. As Sharon recovers on her feet, the Hydra heir whips out her dual pistols and relentlessly shoot at her, forcing the female captain to flee. The attempt is futile as Dark Sin chases her from the other side, continuously firing alongside a sadistic face until that face is suddenly punched by Robyn. The Happy Huntress backflips to the air firing explosive bolts that Sin easily backflips away and continues doing it as a taunt. Even after Sharon hurls her shield to trip her up, Sin still jumps above it whilst allowing it stuck on the wall. While in the air, Sin hurls bombs at both Sharon and Robyn, knocking them down before landing atop the shield and showering them with twin machine gun fire that they frantically flee from.

"Just like your life, you don't deserve this shield or the title 'Captain America'! Just a cheap knockoff compared to the original! I should know since I fought the original times, and you're nowhere NEAR as good!" said Sin, taunting the newbie Captain.

"That won't stop me from trying!" Sharon retorted, undaunted by her taunts while avoiding her bullet storm.

The heroes know they need to wrap this fight up quickly as Shadow's group can barely slow down the Cyber Sleeper from the outside. Quickly, Spider-Man dodges Sin's bullet barrage to blind her with webbing, allowing Robyn to shoot her guns off her hands and leaving her vulnerable for a finishing blow from Sharon. "Let me show you something the other Cap doesn't have!" Sharon charges her energy lance to maximum power, and once she does, she releases that power as a destructive beam of energy that painfully knocks out Sin and blows a large hole through the wall and wires connected to the CPU. The damage done causes the computer to malfunction, forcing the Sleeper to halt in place as it tilts painfully to the side.

"No! NO! How can this be happening?! In one fell swoop I would've destroyed the United States!" A frightened Skull exclaims at his plans falling apart.

"Good job, Sharon!" A smiling Steve praises his daughter for weakening the Sleeper.

"We're not done yet!" Sharon points to Dark Skull attempting to escape through a portal. "Stop him, dad!"

Seconds before Skull could flee into his portal, Steve has his shield bounce around the tilting chamber to knock his foe away from the closing portal. The First Avenger hurries to his weakened rival to deliver the final blows of justice. "This is for what you tried to do to the country!" He smacks him with his shield. "This is for the damage your Syndicate did!" He then punches him right in the face. "And this is FOR THE FUTURE!" And with an arm empowered by truth and justice, Steve throws Skull to the air and have him fall screaming to a shield bash that smashes him into the CPU, electrocuting Skull until he is knocked out cold.

The severe damage to the CPU is causing the Cyber Sleeper to explode from the inside out. The giant mech is moments away from collapsing into a fiery explosion that is thankfully not close enough to destroy the US mainframe but will definitely kill the heroes within the vicinity. As Spider-Man ties up the unconscious Shmidts with his webbing, Steve contacts, "Shadow!" through his ear comm. Right then, Shadow teleports himself, Gemerl, and Hulk into the exploding chamber as Steve orders him, "We're ready for an extraction."

Shadow nods, "Roger. Stay close." The heroes, with the unconscious villains, huddle near the black hedgehog as he prepares to shout the signature move that'll bring them all to safety. "Chaos Control!" He activates his special ability to warp time and space, teleporting everyone out of cyberspace right before the Cyber Sleeper collapses to its complete and total destruction.

Hydra Island

Around the same time as Red Skull's defeat, the Liberty Legion troops were successful in defeating the remaining Hydra personnel and capturing their floating base. All that's left is to confirm Captain America's victory in the cyber world. "What's the status of Steve? Of Sharon? Are they okay?" asked a worried Peggy, standing alongside her superhero allies in a control tower while Boom Tails tries to reestablish contact with Rogers through his AVA handheld.

"I know they're okay, Peggy. They're your family, no matter which world they're from. Have faith." Falcon reassures her with a calming smile.

BGM-Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters OST-Ending of the Battle

And right on cue, Cap's group is teleported into the control group safe and sound alongside the captured Shmidts much to the relief of their friends. "They're okay!" Ms. Marvel smiled.

"Steve! Sharon! I was so worried." said Peggy while rushing to give her family one big hug.

"It's alright. It's over now." Steve warmly smiles while accepting her embrace.

"Sorry we made you worry though." quips Sharon while she warmly accepts her mother's hug as well.

A smiling Boom Sonic walks over to Shadow to tell him, "Looks like you guys got the job done."

"Likewise." Shadow replied with his own smile.

"Yup. Beat up the rest of Skull's flunkies and took over their base. Sure we might've not TOTALLY beaten the Hydra Empire, but I know we did them some serious damage." quips Sonic while relaxing his hands behind his head.

"The only way we can defeat the Empire and TRULY liberate this realm is by defeating Kang and prevent the resurrection of Solaris. Let us hope Skull will provide us answers on his whereabouts." said Strange 2099 before taking a glance at the unconscious war criminal.

"Easier said than done." Blake remarked.

"She's right." Peggy begins to frown as she looks down, "And I can't help but think this is all my fault."

"Why do you think that?" A curious Steve asked.

"After you left into cyberspace, Mephiles paid us a visit to taunt us." Peggy revealed, surprising both Steve and Shadow with the news that the Dark Devil was here as she continues talking, "We don't know if ALL he said was true, but what he said about me wasn't a lie. Howard once showed me something he found at the bottom of the ocean while he was searching for you." She said to Steve, "Flames he believed could revolutionize clean energy, as well as correct past wrongs and avoid sad fates. I… supported him to work hard on his research, because if what he said is true then…we would see each other again. Seems I got my wish…but at the great cost of another war that's bigger and deadlier than the one we fought together. I'm so sorry, Steve."

Steve softly puts his comforting hands on her shoulders as he says, "I understand, but you don't have to apologize. You didn't start this war. It was Kang."

"And we'll stop him. Together." Sharon added, once again reassuring Peggy that everything will be alright if they fight this new war as family.

Thanks to her temporal family cheering her up, Peggy nods at them with a smiling, "Got that right."

Crossing his arms, Shadow speaks, "We can't just focus on Kang. Mephiles is also turning into a problem. Just like before…" He scowlingly looks into his memories of another timeline, the one before the current timeline where Mephiles was also a huge problem. During the Soleanna incident, his actions nearly brought ruin to the world and the universe when he successfully reformed into Solaris. If it wasn't for Shadow and his friends, everything would've been completely erased and the Time War would've ended there. "That monster is hiding in the shadows. Scheming and manipulating others for his own agenda. We can't let history repeat itself. He must be stopped at all cost!"

"It won't be easy. I sensed his power growing by the second." Scarlet Witch turns to the hedgehog with this tidbit.

"What do you suggest how we can stop him?" Shadow asked her.

Wanda places a pondering finger on her muzzle, "Nothing as of now, but…I want to return to Avengers Tower. I have longing questions for Cia and hope she can answer them. It's about Nexus Beings."

"Nexus Beings?" A curious Shadow responded.

"That's what Mephiles referred to me as. And before him was Enerjak. Perhaps the key in preventing Solaris's return…lies within the secrets of these Nexus Beings." Wanda claimed, now ready to learn more about her hidden nature, as one of the most dangerous entities in all of reality.

KFX Here: As was implied in this chapter, don't take everything Mephiles says as truth. He could easily be lying until proven otherwise. That said, we are approaching the "mid-season finale" of Act 2, but before that a breather chapter. Look forward to it.

Reader: I haven't played Fire Emblem Three Houses yet so I have no answer for that. And I never even implied Solaris erased Light Gaia's memories, it's just that Chip hasn't seen him in eons and initially didn't recognize him in his Mephiles state.
