AN: DylanLovesBrenda: Appreciate the kind words :)). Guest: I understand Steve and Kelly are a weird choice for most LOL but I have a soft spot for their bond in season 3 and wanted to pay homage to it here :)).
No Regrets
"How long have you known?" Kelly asked
"I just found out. She called me and we met up." Donna sighed
"Oh."
"Kelly... I had no idea." Donna assured
"So... they've been together all this time?" Kelly asked
"I guess so..." Donna sympathized.
West Beverly Junior class' parents were all invited to The Miller's annual mixer.
"Brenda!" Tony Miller beamed before turning to his wife, "Kate, this was my prom date."
"Sorry you had to go through that." She chuckled, "Glad you could make it." Kate greeted Dylan and Brenda, "Even if our boys don't quite get along." She chuckled
"Thanks for inviting us." Brenda smiled, "It gives us a chance to get reacquainted with Beverly Hills again!"
"We could still make a break for it. It's not too late." Dylan whispered and Brenda playfully nudged him
Just then Dylan spotted David in the corner of his eye.
"I'll be right back." Dylan told Brenda and made his way towards David.
"Well..." David began as he and Dylan stood on the balcony
"Well..." Dylan repeated
"You disappear without telling anyone. Show up again all these years later. Nothing to say?" He asked
"Long story." Dylan shrugged
"Okay..." David paused, "And you and Brenda?"
"Long story." Dylan sighed
"Aren't you gonna fill me in on any of it?"
"You know the highlights." Dylan smirked
"Always a mystery." David rolled his eyes
"You okay, Kelly?" Steve asked, "Been kind of quiet."
"Uh... yeah. I'm just gonna get something to eat." She turned on her heel and made her way to the buffet table.
"Ugh... these events are so boring." Steve turned to the lady on his right
"Excuse me?" She asked
"People pretending they care. The main reason we send our kids to school is to get a break from them, am I right?" He chuckled
"Well as a teacher at the school, I'd hope there's more to it than that." She smirked
"Teacher, you say?" Steve bit his lip, "At this school?" He chuckled nervously
"Janet Sosna. AP English." She held out her hand and Steve sheepishly shook it.
Dylan spotted Kelly by the buffet table. He stood behind her. She still wore that perfume that he loved. The scent had him stop dead in his tracks. She could feel him behind her. Shaking her head in a desperate attempt to wake up from this nightmare. He involuntarily leaned forward, gazing at the back of her neck with her hair in that classic bun she did for formal events. Just looking her again and having her so close to him had him lost in a trance. But before he could do or say anything. She sighed
"Why are you here?"
"I was invited" He said with his typical brand of nonchalance
"No, why are you here?" She urged, "Next to me."
"Guess I wasn't so good at staying away..." He shrugged
"What do you want from me? Do you want me be jealous? Cry? Well forget it." She huffed
"Kel, this is hard for me too. Seeing you again... Your new life... with Sanders."
"You're with Brenda!" She cried "...I mean all these years later you and her... " She paused, "... she's the mother of your child. " She let out an anxious sigh before breathing out, "You could have given me a heads up..."
..."You think this is easy for me?"
"You know, Dylan... I don't care. Who do you think you are telling your son to sweep my daughter off her feet and frolic down memory lane?! I mean really Griffith observatory? What's next? Paradise Cove? It's just a joke to you."
"It's not a joke. Not at all."
"I can't believe how insensitive you are!" She snapped
"Me? Insensitive?" He chuckled at the hypocrisy
"Yes... after 17 years you just waltz back in here with your son and... Brenda! Did you even think of my feelings?"
"You want sensitive? Fine. I'm sorry Kelly... " He scoffed, "Because you were so sensitive to mine, right?"
"So what is this an eye for an eye?"
"Have I ever made a decision over that type of foolish logic, Kel?"
"Guess you chose to walk away then... you made your choice."
"Yeah I did and you have no right to be mad about that."
"No right to be mad? Fine." She scoffed, "Happy for you.. and Brenda. Way to go!"
"You sound thrilled, Kel" He mocked
"How do you expect me to sound?" She snapped
"I don't know... But I chose you first, remember? You had other plans. Let me see, you chose you."
She stood there in shock. He glared at her before walking away.
Before he disappeared, she grabbed his arm to pull him back.
"Pamela doesn't know anything... I'd like to keep it that way." She quietly pleaded
"Dylan, is that you?" Donna approached him on the balcony
"Hey Donna!" He smiled and hugged her tightly
"David said he spotted you here... You haven't changed a bit!" She grinned
"I don't know about that."
"Well... Okay. Maybe some things have changed." She hesitated. "You gonna keep hiding out on the balcony all night."
"Brenda's much better at these social gatherings than me." Dylan shrugged
"Is that it?" She asked.
"Am I that transparent?" He chuckled. Just then they spotted Kelly walking past on her way to David.
"Like I said some things never change... But hey no regrets, right?" She sighed
There was a moment of silence and Dylan looked at the ground. Donna eyed him closely. No matter how much time had passed, she felt they couldn't help but fall right back into place.
"I never told her I loved her..." Dylan murmured
Donna's eyes widened. "What?"
"There's a regret." He sighed.
