AN: Tish: The paternal issues did cross my mind when this story idea was first conceived, but I thought things could get gross real quick :D Don't worry, the secrets will be revealed soon enough :))

Temptation Is A Killer

"Hi Kelly." Brenda breathed out as her and Kelly finally crossed paths at the Miller's mixer.

"Brenda! ..Hi." Kelly responded, taken aback.

"Well, this is awkward..." Brenda chuckled

"You can say that again." Kelly had a little chuckle herself

"Kelly... " Brenda's tone changed, "I know we have a lot of history, but it's just that: history. Maybe we could turn the page...?"

"Maybe... " Kelly uttered

"Or we could continue to skirt around each other." Brenda joked

"No, you're right." Kelly managed a smile

"I mean, we're both mothers... We're not in high school anymore." Brenda smiled back

Flashback - Summer Begins

"Don't fall in love over there..." Dylan began as he and Brenda stood before the airport shuttle.

"That goes for you too." Brenda warned

Once she was on the bus, Brenda sat in her seat and looked out the window to find Dylan walking Kelly to her car. An uneasy feeling befell her.

"You're rehearsing again tonight?" Dylan groaned

"It's part of the gig, Dylan." Brenda informed

"So... that's it, you're just not gonna be home for dinner?" He asked

"Oh you mean now that I'm working and you are taking care of the house it's a problem..." Brenda folded her arms

"No... I just mean you're better at this stuff than I am." Dylan shrugged

"I think you can handle it." She winked, "Just make sure to feed Jimmy a proper meal this time. No cereal or waffles."

She kissed him before heading out

"Where's mum?" James asked as he entered the kitchen

"Working. Again." Dylan sighed

"What about dinner?"

"Here." Dylan pulled out his wallet from his pocket, "Order pizza."

"Dad, I'm going to need a little extra money."

"Why?" Dylan asked his son

"'Cause I invited Pam over to eat with us."

"Jim... You can't just invite a friend round without telling me... You'd never pull that stuff with your mother."

"Come on, dad. It's just pizza and a movie." James pleaded

"...Fine." Dylan rubbed his forehead, "Next time, ask permission."

"So, what movie did you have in mind?" Pamela asked as her, James and Dylan eat pizza at the kitchen table, "The Planet of the Apes movie is out!"

"Nah, Pam. You're in the McKay house now... Friday movie night means classic movies night."

Pam pursed her lips.

"What's the matter, sweetheart?" asked Dylan chuckling to himself at Pam's Kelly-esque mannerisms, "You don't like classic movies?"

"I don't really know any. Although I do love Weekend at Bernies." She grinned

"That's old to you kids?" Dylan crinkled his forehead

"No, no. Like black and white movies." James corrected

"Oh I know one. My mum's comfort film: Casablanca." She beamed and Dylan fidgeted.

"Comfort film?" James asked her to elaborate

"It's... what we call movies that make you feel good when you're sick or sad. Mine's Harry Potter!"

"Well, we're not watching that tonight." James shook his head and Pamela playfully nudged him

"Fine. What did you have in mind?" She groaned

"Cary Grant." He chuckled, pulling out the DVD.

"An affair to remember." She read the title

"Oh boy..." Dylan mumbled under his breath.

As the kids cuddled on the couch, laughing and chatting away while watching the movie, Dylan couldn't help but take notice as he passed them. Seeing his son happy was heart-warming, but unfortunately seeing him and Kelly's daughter frolic like he and Kelly once did was a tough pill to swallow.

Flashback - Casablanca

"Hi!" Kelly greeted as she opened her front door to find Dylan behind it, looking rather dashing.

"Hi!" He grinned, internally chuckling at how they both dressed up for the other... to babysit.

"Got the movie?" She asked

"Right here." Dylan held it up proudly

"You go ahead and put it in... I'll get us a couple of sodas." She beamed up at him. He was enamored by her playful demeanor and smile. They both tried to hide the fact that they were feeling giddy about this non-date date. After all, they both had to admit, they weren't that miserable being left behind this summer... with each other.

As they got comfortable on the couch with throw pillows and cushions, Kelly got sucked into the movie quite quickly.

Bogart: Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.

"I love that line." Dylan confirmed

"It's... incredibly romantic." Kelly concluded and he turned to face her and smiled. She met his gaze just before they heard Erin's cries.

"...Romance will have to wait." Dylan sighed, pausing the movie.

Kelly came back upstairs with the bottle and held out her arms

"I can do it." Dylan assured, making Kelly smile. She handed him the bottle and watched Dylan feed Erin.

"I see why you wanted to stay..." Dylan whispered as Erin began to nod off.

"The late night feeds?" She joked

"No." He chuckled, "Having family to come home to."

"Yeah..." Kelly sighed, feeling the happiest she had been in a long time. "She's asleep." Kelly confirmed

As Dylan carefully placed Erin in her crib. He turned to Kelly. They both locked eyes for a split second, for the first time this magnetic pull began to lure them closer to each other. Just as he started to notice his breathing get louder, he quickly chimed in, "So, back to Bogart?"

"Well guess thats it..." Dylan yawned as the credits rolled

"You know I didn't expect to like a movie about an affair but... it was so romantic... and passionate." Kelly acknowledged

"Yeah, it is... Makes you wonder..." Dylan hesitated

"What?" Kelly asked, intrigued

"...Whether that kind of passion is good for you. Everyone says it's not but... " Dylan looked her up and down, "Can't help but be tempted."

"Temptation can be a killer..." She whispered, trying to avoid his gaze.

"It's a risk... But maybe it's worth it..." His raspy whisper echoed in her head

"Be careful what you wish for." She joked, keeping her tone upbeat. But he just stood there, making her feel uneasy under his piercing gaze.

"Anyway... " Kelly's arms flailed about as they always did when she was nervous "Thanks for keeping me company."

Dylan smirked to himself, enjoying being in the moment, even if it was about to end. "Anytime sweetheart." He imitated Bogart's accent.

"I loved it!" Pamela gasped, "And the whole Empire State Building thing was just... so romantic!"

"Yeah... classic." James nodded, smiling at her. Once Pamela finally stopped raving about the movie she caught James' gaze on her. She couldn't help but smile.

"I guess I should get going..." She sighed

"Wait..." James began, leaning towards her. His lips brushed against hers. He then paused to look into her eyes to see if she would return the kiss. It didn't take long for her lips to return to his.

They kissed softly until his hands wrapped around her. He deepened the kiss and with her tactile invitation, slumped himself over her.

Dylan shook off his memories and was about to head into the kitchen when he found his son and Pamela making out on the couch.

He stood behind the couch and cleared his throat. James and Pam abruptly broke apart and looked at the floor, embarrassed.

"I think it's time for Pamela to go home." Dylan affirmed.

"You need a ride?" James asked

"No, that's okay. I've got Rosebud." She smiled

"Who?" James asked

"My mum's red convertible. Rosebud's her name." She chuckled as her and James' fingers intertwined. They enjoyed the playful touch until Dylan once again cleared his throat, encouraging them to say goodnight.
