Summer of Love

"Dylan!" She said sharply after dragging him into David's After Dark office. "Just stop it, okay? I don't need this shit right now!"

"What am I doing?" He asked, irritated

"You keep looking at me like that! Like you're staring into my soul. I hate it!"

"Clearly..." Dylan noted. "I'll be sure to make a note of it." His nonchalance only irritated her more.

"That's not funny!" She warned. He continued to watch how her tightly-fitted red dress hugged her curves. Her hips tended to sway when she was angry

"Stop looking at me!" She roared and Dylan shook his head, taking a deep breath in

"You think I want to look at you?" He said sharply. His eyes now shooting daggers at her. He began circling around her, "You don't think I'd rather be looking at my wife? You don't think I'd rather you not be in my head?!" He growled

"Dylan, you don't have to keep checking up on me." She groaned

"That's not what I'm doing..." He assured

"Then what are you doing?" She snapped

"I don't know..." He stared down at the French flag on the sandcastle. "We never see each other now."

"Dylan, we both agreed-"

"-You agreed. I said nothing." He interjected

"Dylan... It was always going to be like this. In fact, It's just what I predicted would happen."

"You didn't predict it, you made it happen." He corrected

"What else did you have in mind?" She shot back

"I offered to tell Brenda..."

"You were never going to leave Brenda." She affirmed

"I didn't know you wanted me to. You said we watched Casablanca, saw some stars, that's it, remember?"

"Dylan..." She begged but he continued on.

"-You're telling me to just go back to Brenda and forget what happened?"

"We'll always have Paris." She sighed in defeat

"That is not funny anymore." He warned

"Well... It doesn't matter anymore. So just leave it alone, okay?"

"Kelly, I can't." He said with urgency, "I think about you when I don't wanna be thinking about you! Tell me, do you have that going on at all?!"

"I don't know..." She said breathlessly, closing her eyes.

"What?" He persuaded her to confess, taking a step closer to her. She breathed out in response as he stood before her, so close to her that she felt weak. His dreamy eyes looked into her helpless ones. He bent down and brushed his lips against hers. The minute their lips touched, she gave in and welcomed the kiss. His arms wrapped around her to pull her body close to his. Her hands flailed about as her body surrendered to him. With one hand on the small of her back, the other then trailed up to her hair, cupping the back of her neck. He loved how her soft strands felt in his fingers; she loved how it felt being in his arms. They knew it was probably a mistake to steal kisses on the beach that night, knowing that they would have to face the music tomorrow, but in this moment they didn't care. Longing to hold onto Summer a little longer.

"For 17 years I put you behind me. I've gotten pretty damn good at it too!" He glared at her, "So believe me! Looking at you is the last thing I want to do now."

"Well, let me help you out then!" She hissed, turning on her heel about to take off. She reached for the door but he grabbed her hand and pulled her back and swung her around. Her nose bumped into his, throwing both of them a little off balance. His breath on her, his lips hovering over hers and him breathing in her perfume was not a good combination. He leaned in with his head slowly lowering down to hers. She caressed his chin, gazing up at those Dylan McKay eyes - his eyes displaying the pain he felt, yearning to kiss her. His lips parted, desperate to taste her. But her hand remained a barrier between them as she cupped his chin.

"Don't." She pleaded "You're doing so well."

"I'm not." He urged, still fighting to close the gap between them.

"You're doing better without me." She whispered before heading out the door, leaving him there in anguish.

"I would do this..." Dylan grinned as his head moved towards hers and softly kissed her. "And this..." He tilted his head to one side and kissed her again. "And maybe even this..." He yearned and longed to be close to her. He had wanted this for so long - even before this summer - that now his body almost ached for her.

"Spend the night with me, Kelly." He pleaded and she smiled at him.

"Let's take a walk first." She insisted, pacing him.

"Let's get out of here." He urged

As they strolled along the beach, holding hands, they were both giddy, laughing and joking around just like they during the summer. Finally getting that first date they had been longing for since the summer, they celebrated that they could be together now. He was single. He then stopped in his tracks to look at her. Take her all in. She was so effortlessly beautiful that sometimes he couldn't believe this was finally happening for them. Neither could she and in this moment, she loved the way he looked at her.

"What?" She asked softly as he continued to stare. They had both wanted this for so long, they didn't know what to say when they actually got it. As he watched her grin from ear to ear, he admired her child-like spirit. It wasn't often he saw her this happy. It made him happy. In that moment he knew his feelings for her were strong. Like everything he ever wanted was right in front of him all along.

"Come home with me." He whispered, pulling her close. He tugged on her hair to gaze at her neck before kissing it.

"Let's go!" She moaned

They had made love for the first time that night. He woke up excited as he found her laying next to him. He leaned over and began to trail kisses on the back of her neck and shoulder. She smiled to herself before turning to kiss him back. She had never been this happy, she almost wanted to pinch herself.

"Good morning." He smirked

"Hi..." She grinned. He began kissing her again and again, unable to break apart. He slumped himself over her and they hungrily made out.

Their embrace was interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Who is that?" She asked

"I don't care." He brushed it off, leaning back in for a kiss.

As the knocking continued, she urged him to answer the door, but he continued to kiss every inch of her neck.

"Dylan, please!" She chuckled, "You need to get that!"

"...Fine." He groaned, planting one more kiss on her lips before struggling to get up.

Dylan opened the front door.

"Sorry to barge in - I just wanted to give you your stuff back-" Brenda stood there as she looked up and found Kelly laying on the couch in one of Dylan's shirts. Kelly got up abruptly, panic-stricken. Dylan scratched his forehead and cringed.

"Brenda!" Kelly gasped, hand over mouth.

"Oh... my god." Brenda gasped, "Kelly! How could you?" She shook her head, "You jump into bed with my ex boyfriend after I just told you that he cheated on me with some girl this Summer-" Brenda then paused, putting two and two together. "Oh my god... Oh my god, you were the girl!"

"We didn't want you to find out like this Bren..." Dylan sympathized

"You waste no time." She glared at him

"Brenda..." Kelly came running over to her "I'm so sorry!"

"Sorry?" She scoffed, "You're my best friend. How could you?!"

"I wanted to tell you." Kelly pleaded

"Tell me what? That you slept with my boyfriend?"

"We didn't... Not until you were broken up!" Kelly assured

"Oh that's very comforting. I'm very impressed with your restraint!" Brenda scoffed

"Brenda, please." Kelly tried to console her, but Brenda shoved her hand away.

"Don't touch me! I hate you both. Never talk to me again." Brenda stormed out.

Kelly turned to Dylan, urging him to do something. Dylan then ran to catch up with her.

"Bren. Bren, wait!" He called out

"What?" Brenda hissed

"We never meant to hurt you... That's the last thing I want to do."

"Dylan, you cheated on me with my best friend." She reiterated

"I know. I'm sorry." He apologized, "We didn't plan this, Bren. I just... fell for her."

"There are millions of girls out there. Why her?!"

"Brenda... " He sighed, "Do you really think I'd put you through all this for just any girl? I love you too much to hurt you over nothing..."

"Oh!" She hissed "So, you're serious about her? What are you? Together now? You make me sick!" She hissed, walking off.

Kelly came running to his side and they watched Brenda walk off.

"She'll be alright." He assured

"Will we?" Kelly asked

"Me and you? Yeah... Us and her...? I hope so."

Kelly remembered their summer of love like it was yesterday. In fact, the memories came flooding back in an instant. It made her crave him even more., but she had already said goodbye 17 years ago. She couldn't open that gate. Not again. Not after all this time. She was married; he was married... to Brenda of all people. She thought back to that morning that Brenda found out about the two of them, which only begged the question she was always battling: Was her affair with Dylan worth affecting all the people that got caught in the middle of their connection?

She found herself reaching to her bedside table, thinking to get his number and call him. But then she realized... A lot has happened in 17 years and some gates should never be reopened.

"A lot of things have fallen into place for me... I'm just happy. My dad's back.. Feels like we got a second chance."

As he sat in the AV room, rewinding the tape over and over again. Cameron sighed to himself as he fiddled with the classroom key.
