Beg, Borrow and Steal
Well, how do you do?
A kiss on the cheek
Well, it's been a while
So I'll just beg, borrow and steal all your time
We'll call it dignified
Well now it all seems to be cut and dry
So I know which way to run
You're tired my love, I feel the same
Dylan opened his eyes to find Kelly standing beside the bed, attempting to get dressed.
"Hey..." He said sleepily
"Hey..." She smiled at him
"Come back to bed." He encouraged
"I can't." She sighed. She hooked her bra, but before she could throw on her white tee shirt that was haphazardly thrown on the living room the night before, he pulled her into bed with him.
"Dylan..." She sighed again, resting her chin on his chest as his fingers ran through her hair, cupping the back of her head.
"Stay with me." He soothed, kissing her forehead.
"I'd love to... But I can't."
"Sure you can." He assured, leaning his head up to give her a long, longing kiss. His fingers were now stroking her collar bone. "We can pack up, get out of here... Go to Paris... Elope."
"Elope?" She chuckled
"Yeah..." He grinned
"You... have lost it." She shook her head but was amused nonetheless.
"I haven't... I just know what I need for the first time in my life... I need you."
"...Dylan, you know it's not that simple." She reasoned
"Brandon." He let out a deep breath and wriggled out from underneath her. She laid her head back on the pillow, watching him as he got up and put his pants on.
"...You gonna tell him?" He eventually asked, not looking at her.
"I don't want to... but I will."
"Hey dad!" James greeted, walking into the kitchen where his dad was sat, reading a book.
"Hi." Dylan responded, not looking up.
"Listen..." James began, pulling out a chair and sitting beside him. "I was thinking of taking Pam up to Palm Springs this weekend." Dylan turned to face him.
"That's not a good idea." Dylan let out a deep sigh
"Why not?" He asked
"James..." Dylan closed his eyes in frustration
"But I'm asking for permission, like you wanted."
"I'm telling you, this is a mistake. In fact, I don't want you seeing her anymore."
"What the hell!" James cried "That's ridiculous. You can't do that!"
"This isn't a negotiation." Dylan warned, closing his book and getting up.
"Mum, you gotta go talk to him." James pleaded, "He's lost it!"
"I'm sure he has his reasons... and when he calms down you can talk it out." Brenda assured
"Sure..." James scoffed
"...Where would you stay?" She asked
"Hotel."
"One room?" She questioned
"Mum..." James threw his head back on the couch
"I'm just saying... maybe you're getting a little ahead of yourselves."
"Come on." He groaned, "We don't need to talk about this... Please."
"Jimmy... I'm aware that this isn't your first time - even though I think you're still too young... Your father told me. "
"Oh god." James cringed
"But..." Brenda ignored his sulking, "This is your first time with feelings."
"Tell you what, how about we put a pin in this conversation until dad actually says I can go?"
"Did Kelly agree to it?" Brenda asked
"Pam hasn't asked yet... But I'm pretty sure she won't mind."
"Hmm... The Kelly I remember would be a little concerned."
"Maybe she's not the Kelly you remember." James shrugged, about to get up.
"James." Brenda called him back
"What?" He sighed
"I know the idea of flitting off for the weekend is romantic... Believe me, I've been there. But things can get complicated. Have a little foresight."
"I can't believe he found out." Kelly said, trying to relax as Donna handed her a glass of wine.
"Did you explain what happened?" She asked.
"No, he was so angry... he fled." Kelly took a large sip of her wine.
"All the more reason to." Donna concluded.
"Why bother? He already hates me."
"He doesn't hate you... He doesn't understand."
Kelly let herself into the Walsh residence. "Hey!" She greeted, "Sorry I'm a little late... Traffic was brutal." She trailed off. Brandon was sitting on the couch, silent.
"What's wrong?" She asked, walking over to him.
"I know things haven't been easy..." He began, not looking up at her, "Dylan has certainly had an impact. And we're all dealing with a lot." He paused, she slowly lowered down on the couch to sit beside him. "I don't judge you for that. I know it's hard for you. I know there's a life and a language you and Dylan share that I don't understand. I also know he can offer you a lot more than I can... But I'm not gonna give you up without a fight."
"You know..." She said quietly
"Valerie saw you leaving his house." He sighed, "...Looks like you've got a choice to make."
"You're giving her a choice?!" Valerie scolded, heading into Brandon's bedroom.
"It's only fair."
"Get a grip, Brandon." Valerie yelled, "She doesn't respect you! ...You know what I think, I think you like the idea of her. You want to save her but you can't!"
"Valerie, drop it." He said sternly
"When are you going to realize that, huh? God! Why don't you consider rescuing the people that actually care about you?!"
"What are we talking about here?" He looked up at her, confused, and Valerie let out an exasperated sigh in response
"You really don't get it do you." She shook her head, "Andrea was right... You'll never notice." She was about to get up and leave, but Brandon pulled her back
"Valerie is this about the other night?" He asked, "I thought we agreed-"
"-No, you agreed. You thought you could lean on me because your girlfriend cheated on you and I... I foolishly thought that when you made love to me, you meant it."
"What's wrong?" Brenda asked, joining Dylan on the couch whose head was buried in his book.
"I'll explain everything later... Alright?" He let out a heavy sigh
"What about Pam Springs?"
"That's not happening." He said firmly
"Dylan..." She began
"Bren... They really need to slow things down." He insisted
"Now who sounds like my father?" She chuckled
"Trust me, okay? It's what's best for both of them." He affirmed.
Dylan found Kelly laying on her beach towel at the beach.
"You haven't been returning my calls." He began, standing before her.
"I needed time to think." She removed her sunglasses.
"You're thinking too hard." He said, sitting down beside her, not taking his gaze off of her.
"Dylan..." She warned in a firm tone that caused him to let out an exasperated sigh. "It's a big decision, one I'm not sure you're ready for."
"I wouldn't be here if I wasn't absolutely sure that where you belong is with me. Together... wherever it is." He insisted
"Dylan... Don't do this. We need to think clearly... and we don't do that well when we're together" She pleaded as he slumped himself over her
"I'm thinking clearer than ever" He affirmed
"Dylan, I can't just leave!" She urged
"But you want to." He assured, stroking her cheek. She closed her eyes, attempting to resist the longing she felt for his touch
"You don't want him." He whispered
"He..." She struggled to get her words out. "He cares about me. He loves me."
"He'll get over it." Dylan sighed, "He doesn't need you... I need you. I can't breathe without you."
"Dylan..." She pleaded again, sitting up from the ground, causing him to roll off of her, irritated "Don't make it harder. Just because we want it now doesn't mean it's the right thing to do."
"It is right." He warned
"We're just getting caught up." She huffed, "In this... in us." She avoided looking him in the eye. "It'll pass."
"If that's true..." He leaned in closer, "How come I can't stop thinking about you... how come you can't stop thinking about me."
His lips hovered over hers.
"Dylan..." Her fingers softly stroked his lips, "Walking away from you was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Please, don't do this. I couldn't bear to do it again."
"You won't have to." He whispered, "Leave him."
"I knew you'd be here." Kelly breathed out, finding Dylan on the swing at the playground.
"Leave me alone." He drawled
"Dylan..." She sighed, "Can't you at least hear me out?" He turned to face her, a frustrated scowl painted across his face
"No."
"Fine..." She shrugged, mumbling to herself "Guess you can never win."
"...Wait." He groaned as she was about to head back. "Just tell me one thing..."
Well, take it from me
What else could you do
Where do you get off?
And how can I get there too?
You'll never come back
It might not be true romance is fine
You're tired my love, I feel the same
We're leaving this, we'll jump this ship
Oh, just give me some peace of mind
