Always

"Is this amazing or what?!" Pam squealed once they got back up to the hotel room.

"It is." James pulled her close and kissed her a few times.

"What's wrong?" Pamela noticed his demeanor change.

"I don't know." He sighed, "It's just - I guess I'm a little worried about getting caught. I don't usually do things behind my dad's back."

"Because he never says no." Pamela corrected

"Yeah, but still... What if he finds out?" He asked

"He's not going to!" Pamela assured, "You said you're staying at Daniel's right? My cousins will cover for me no matter what. And unless your dad talks to my aunt, uncle or my mum, we're good."

"Yeah, guess you're right. Good thing they don't run in the same circles." He grinned

"You said yourself, your parents only ever see your aunt and uncle right?"

"Yeah but my uncle works with your dad now." James sighed as he lowered himself down to sit on the bed

"You think my dad even knows I'm gone for the weekend?" Pamela rolled her eyes and chuckled as she joined him. "Stop worrying!"

She leaned over and kissed him. He began to smirk and they both slowly laid down together.

The next day Dylan was parked outside Kelly's house. Waiting to drive over to Cameron's parents like they agreed.

"Hey." Kelly greeted as she slid into the passenger seat. "Where's Brenda?"

"She's not coming." Dylan uttered as he pressed the gas.

"Why not?" She asked

"She had some things to take care of. Her and Brandon are taking the boys to Minnesota to see Jim and Cindy soon so she's probably got a check list." Dylan replied. Kelly pondered on that thought. After that awkward encounter outside their door, she wondered if Brenda didn't want to see her. She had basically admitted to still being in love with Dylan.

"You ready for this?" Dylan interrupted her thoughts

"As ready as I'll ever be." She sighed. Dylan gave her knee a quick squeeze.

"Don't." She warned. Dylan took a quick glance at her, understanding exactly why she wanted to avoid touching. He slowly nodded and kept his eyes on the road.

"Hi." Kelly breathed out as Mrs Knowles opened the door.

"Kelly." The woman was polite but quiet. She stepped aside to allow Kelly and Dylan in.

Once they were sat on the sofa, Mr Knowles joined them.

"This is Dylan. He's the bio-"

"We know." Mr Knowles interjected, "You said on the phone."

It felt awkward.

"You look just like our son." Mrs Knowles said after a beat, "Or perhaps, he looks like you."

"He has Kelly's eyes." Dylan added

"Right." Mrs Knowles nodded. "So... I guess you want to talk about Cameron... Even though you agreed to the arrangement."

"Well..." Kelly let out a deep breath.

"He's so beautiful." Mrs Knowles gasped as she held baby Jack in her arms. Kelly remained in the hospital bed with Steve by her side. She turned to Kelly, "Thank you!" She said sincerely

"We can't thank you enough for choosing us." Mr Knowles could not take his eyes off of his new baby boy. "We've been trying to have a baby for so long. We didn't think this was in the cards for us!"

"Congratulations." Kelly smiled. As hard as it was, it felt good seeing how loved Jack will be by his adoptive parents.

The adoption lawyer stepped into the room. "Sorry to interrupt, but er... Kelly? We have some things to go over."

"Can't you give her a minute?" Steve groaned

"This will only take a second." The lawyer urged everyone to leave the room.

"Kelly..." The lawyer began, "How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay." She sighed

"The thing is... there are some details in the contract that we need to revise. For instance, that when you sign, you agree to no visitation rights. The child will be solely in their custody."

"I did read it you know." Kelly sighed

"Yes well... Parents can change their mind over time. It can raise quite an issue."

"They don't have to worry." Kelly assured, seemingly uninterested in the discussion.

"Fair enough. All that's left is to sign it."

"Give me a pen." Kelly insisted

"You don't want to read it once more?"

"Nope."

"Alright. You're lucky, though. They've agreed to send you pictures." The lawyer put the contract back in his brief case and headed out. As soon as he did, Steve and the Knowles walked in with the baby.

"How are you feeling?" Mrs Knowles asked Kelly

"Tired but alright." She replied

"Good... Listen we're about to take off. We thought you'd like a moment with Cameron."

"Cameron?" Kelly asked

"Yeah, sorry." She laughed, "We named him already! After my dad."

"That's nice." Kelly smiled. Mrs Knowles handed her the baby.

"We'll give you a minute." They headed out and Steve watched over Kelly and the baby.

"You still look like a Jack to me." Kelly's eyes began to tear as she smiled at him. "But they love you so much. So do I."

"Kelly." Steve whispered and she looked up, "Sorry to interrupt but..." He let out an exasperated sigh, "You don't want to do this!" He urged

"Steve, that's enough out of you!" Kelly warned "We're not talking about this anymore. Now let me say goodbye."

"In Kelly's defense." Dylan interjected, "Cameron found me, not the other way round."

"Still, I don't think it's fair to plan a dinner and try to get involved with our family. We didn't want him to find out like this. It's bad enough that he did. Do you honestly think he's capable of handling what you're forcing on him?" Mr Knowles struggled to control his emotions.

"I'm sorry..." Dylan drawled, "I just want to get to know him... On his terms. If it's okay with you."

"He's not ready." Mrs Knowles shook her head

"He's not or you're not?" Dylan interrogated

"Dylan." Kelly whispered, nudging him.

"...Hey." They all turned around to find Cameron in the hallway.

"Cam!" Mrs Knowles called out.

"Can you stop fighting about me?" He walked into the living room. "I'm sorry Mr McKay, I know I sought you out, but the truth is, my parents are right. I'm not ready to move this fast."

"That's fine." Kelly stood up before Dylan could get a word in. "Mr and Mrs Knowles, I'm so sorry to have sprung this on you. Take your time and when you're ready, Cameron, we're here."

"Bullshit!" Dylan snapped once he and Kelly got back in the car.

"Dylan." Kelly sighed

"You know damn well they're the ones who aren't ready! He came looking for us! He wants to know us! They're too afraid and he's covering for them."

"Dylan, calm down."

"No, it's bullshit." Dylan shook his head

"Look, I agree with you. But still... If we push too hard, we'll push him away. Give him a chance. He will talk to his parents, and when they see that this is what he wants, they'll be more accepting. They're good parents, I picked them for a reason."

Dylan was hesitant

"Listen." Her tone was warmer, "We want to do this right and we can't do that if we cause a problem with his parents."

"...Alright, alright." Dylan calmed down. "Guess you're right."

"Always." She scoffed, jokingly.

He turned to look at her and smirked, "Don't get too cocky."

It was the first light-hearted moment they had in weeks. They were starting to feel like themselves again.

"You okay?" Kelly asked once he parked in front of her house.

"Yeah..." Dylan smiled at her

"Good." She smiled back "...You want to come in?" She couldn't help herself, she just blurted it out.

"Er..." Dylan looked her up and down for a moment before snapping back to reality, "I... can't." He sighed

"I understand." Kelly nodded. She began to head inside.

"Hey, Kel." Dylan called her back

"Yeah?" She asked

"Lookin' good, red." He grinned and she grinned back.
