Well, let's continue this, shall we?
Mrs. Hawkins was talking to Doppler about how difficult it was for her to raise Jim, until the door opened, revealing the two robo cops, pulling in Jim and Fung.
"Gah, get off!" Snapped Fung, trying to pry himself loose, but this robot was strong, and Fung never had to deal with robots before. The robot glared.
"You won't fight us, unless you want to end up in the slammer," he threatened, making the croc flinch. He certainly didn't want to find out about the prison situation here, so reluctantly he allowed the cops to bring him inside, much to the shock of Mrs. Hawkins who dropped an armful of plates.
"Jim?!" She exclaimed, gazing back and forth between the two, as Fung gulped. "Uh, he asked me to ride that thing, I swear! I didn't goad him into it!" He pleaded, while Jim gave his friend a look, after throwing off the cop's hand.
"Okay, thanks for the lift, guys!" The cop wasn't fooled, grabbing Jim's shoulder roughly.
"Not so fast. Ma'am, We apprehended your son operating a solar vehicle in a restricted area. Moving violation 9-0-4, section fifteen, paragraph… um…"
"Six?" Jim muttered, and Fung was surprised. This had happened before? Why didn't Jim tell him any of this?
"Thank you," the cop holding Fung said. Jim looked away. "Don't mention it." Mrs. Hawkins narrowed her eyes. "Jim!" She scolded. Fung gazed about, not wanting to be a part of this family drama. What have I been pulled into? He thought, a flicker of guilt boiling in his stomach.
Then Doppler approached. "Uh, excuse me, gentlemen, if I might interject here, I am the noted astrophysicist Dr. Delbert Doppler, perhaps you've heard of me? No? I Uh have a clipping—."
The cop holding Fung pointed. "Are you the boy's father?" Mrs. Hawkins and Doppler looked at one another awkwardly, and Fung couldn't help but smirk a tad at how she turned red.
"No, oh no! Eww! He's just an old friend of the family." Fung noticed Doppler giving her a look when she said 'eww'.
"Back off, sir!" Yelled the cops, and Doppler cowered away with fright, Mrs. Hawkins pushing him away so she can deal with it. Fung didn't want to look at her, the one who gave him his first good to honest job, as he looked out the window instead.
"Due to repeated violations of statute 15-C, we have impounded his vehicle. Any more slip-ups will result in a one-way ticket to Juvenile Hall," the first cop spoke up.
"Kiddie Hoosegow."
"The slammer."
The cop holding Fung glared down at him. "This one that rode with him will meet the same charges if caught with him again. Remember that," he lastly added into Fung's ear, who growled softly after being released.
Mrs Hawkins nodded. "Thank you, officers. It won't happen again." She said in a stern tone, mostly to Jim more than Fung, who shuffled his feet guiltily.
"You take care now!" Said the first cop.
"Let's motor." And with that, they left, closing the door. Fung's face heated as he realized the whole bar was watching, before going back to their food quickly. He decided to make his way out to the back, so Jim and his mother could talk privately.
Fung paced, grumbling under his breath. His first time in a new world and already he screws things up, as usual. Out of frustration, he took of his helmet and threw it on the ground. "Gawsh, darn it!" He shouted, feeling small tears coming into his eyes, as he sat down on the bench out there, putting his face in his hands.
Doppler had noticed Fung going out and followed, brows raising in concern for the croc when he saw him throw his helmet, for he obviously had a temper when upset. Doppler cleared his throat, sitting down next to Fung.
"What do you want, guy?" Huffed Fung, looking away from the dog alien.
"I-I'm sorry you got caught up in the little situation. Back there."
Fung rolled his eyes. "Would've been nice ta know about the kid's rebellious streak," he muttered.
"Jim's not like that all the time, Fung, he's just lonely without his father, for he left him and his mom, and he never came back." He said in a sad tone.
The croc stared, shock in his veins. "N-never came back? Is that the possible reason why he is like that?"
Doppler nodded. "Perhaps when Jim cools down you can talk to him, since you're friends."
Fung felt something twinge in his heart. He knew how Jim felt, his parents were separated too. Guess it couldn't hurt, he thought, as he nodded to Doppler.
"Yeah, I'll talk to the kid, maybe knock some sense into him, too."
Later that evening Fung found Jim on the roof, throwing rocks with a blank expression, sighing a little, the croc managed to clamber clumsily onto the roof to sit with him.
"Hey," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. Jim didn't answer.
"Listen, kid, sorry about today, with, you know..." then Jim gave him another cold look.
"I don't want to talk about it!" He growled, throwing another rock.
"Just please head me out? I just want to say that I know what it is like, messing up and hurting the ones you love," Fung said desperately. Jim just scoffed.
"How could your life be like mine?"
Fung folded his arms. "Well, for one thing, my parents are separated, too. My mom took me with her after leaving my dad who has this crazy idea of making Terra Cotta warriors to conquer China—." He found himself seeing Jim's stupefied and confused expression. "Uh, Terra Cottas are clay warriors you bring to life with magic," the croc explained.
"Gotcha."
"Anyway, I never wanted to be any part of my dad's crazy ideas, and I keep hoping if I impress him by being a bandit, he would forget his Terra idea and...come back with me and mom. But no matter how hard I try, I always mess up, even when I try to make a good honest living and a new friend, I-I—." He cut off, glancing away into the distance. Now Jim understood, what the croc must go through to get his family back together, unable to impress his own father.
He began to speak, but before he could, a ship's engine rattled through the air, causing the two to look up in surprise. Fung stared as the new ship crashed onto their dock, slowly going up in flames.
"C'mon, we gotta help!" Yelled Jim, pulling Fung with him down off the roof. Fung hoped that whoever was inside wasn't hurt, for the crash looked pretty rough.
They ran over to the ship. Fung went up and knocked on the window of it.
"Hey, guy, you okay in there?" He called in a worried voice. The doors burst open, making them jump back, revealing an old turtle pirate alien with a chest. Fung couldn't help but think of the late Master Oogway while looking at this turtle, but without the wisdom like eyes and having pirate like features. He fell to the ground, coughing out smoke.
The turtle pirate glanced around before looking at them. "He's a comin'. Can yeh hear him? Them gears and gyros clickin and whirring like the devil himself?" He growled into their faces, making Fung grimace slightly. Okay, this guy is definitely off his rocker.
"Uh, hit your head there pretty hard, didn't ya?" Jim questioned, but the turtle didn't answer, going to his chest and struggling to lift it.
"He's after me chest. That fiendish cyborg and his band of cutthroats. But they'll have ter pry it from ol' Billy Bone's cold dead fingers afore I—." He began to hack and wheeze hard while falling to the ground, striking concern in the croc's heart.
"Guy, don't hurt yourself, we can help," he said. Jim helped the man, while Fung grabbed the chest for him, and they helped the man to the inn. Jim had rolled his eyes. "Mom's gonna love this, too," he muttered.
It had started to rain, and the wind opened the door before Fung could, and Mrs. Hawkins gave a scream, almost like when Jim had first found Fung.
"James Pleiades Hawkins! What in—?!" She cried out, but Fung interrupted.
"His ship crashed, Mrs. Hawkins, he's hurt!" He said, as they laid the man on the floor. He continued to take in shaky breaths, and Fung was worried now that this guy may be on his final days. He reached with a shaky hand. "M-Me chest, lad," he croaked to Fung, who handed it to him. Bones punched in codes, taking out an item covered in a cloth.
"They'll be comin' soon, can't let them find this...can't..." he mumbled in a scared voice. Fung arched his brow.
"Who's coming, guy?" He asked, though he already knew. Fung grunted as Bones pulled him forward by his jacket he had borrowed. "Hey!" Jim exclaimed, as Bones whispered into Fung's ears. "The cyborg. Beware...the cyborg..." Bones choked, his eyes drifting shut, drawing his final breath, as he died right there.
Fung had no words, staring down at Bone's dead body, while Mrs. Hawkins gasped softly. What cyborg? What was Bones talking about? The croc thought to himself.
Ship engines then rumbled outside, and Fung tensed up, wondering who was outside. Jim peeked open the curtain, seeing a gang of pirates coming right to their door.
"We gotta go!" Called out Jim, while Fung felt really confused. "Why?" He cried out. Delbert was about to open the door when a laser fired the handle off, making him yelp, and Fung immediately saw why, running up the stairs with the others, right as the door exploded to pieces.
They reached the top, Delbert opening a window and calling down to a strange slug creature pulling a horse carriage.
Jim glanced back at the coming pirates, then down at the carriage. "We gotta jump!" He cried out. Fung's eyes popped. "Say wha?!" He screamed, as they were pulled up to the windowsill.
"Don't worry, Sarah. I'm an expert in the laws of physical science. On the count of three. One—." Delbert was interrupted by Jim who pushed them all out. "Thee!"
Fung screamed along with Delbert as they fell, but somehow landed safely in the carriage without a scratch, Delbert taking up the reins and his steed rode them away to safety, the BenBow Inn going up in flames. The croc noticed Sarah's depressed look, and he looked back, the fire making the Inn collapse to the ground.
I'm sorry, Mrs. Hawkins... Fung thought sadly, the former bandit now wishing there was something he could do to help, and cursing the pirates who did this.
