Check Yes Or No
Do you love me, do you want to be my friend?
And if you do.
Well, then don't be afraid to take me by the hand.
If you want to.
I think this is how love goes.
Check yes or no.
Check Yes Or No - George Strait
Hitomi sits at her desk and spins a pen in her hand. This is only her first class of the day and she is already having trouble staying focused.
I really need to make sure I do good on this next exam, she thinks to herself as she tries to take notes. Come on Hitomi you can do this. Her phone buzzes and she notices she has gotten a text from Leifang. She checks the message and it is concerning a class they share later in the day.
"Ms. Bunchfink," the instructor calls from the front of the room.
"Yes," she responds a little startled.
Mr. Lancaster pushes his glasses back over his dark brown eyes. "Be sure you get this," he says. "It will be on the exam."
Hitomi places her phone back in her pocket and makes a mental note to respond after class. She has been having feelings for her friend that have arisen over the last few weeks. In the past she has had crushes on a couple of guys, but found that they didn't go anywhere.
"Are you okay Hitomi," comes a voice from beside her. She looks over to Mila, who is seated beside her. "You seem distracted," the redhead finishes.
"I'm fine," she responds. "I just have something on my mind."
"Guy troubles?" the redhead asks.
Hitomi becomes a little embarrassed. "Well...Not exactly."
Mila raises her eyebrow "Girl troubles?" she asks. "Are you together with anybody?"
"No," Hitomi responds. "But there is someone I like."
"Are they in one of your classes?"
"We can talk later," Hitomi tells her. "Before Mr. L notices again."
They make it to the end of class and Hitomi packs up her things. She rises from her seat and begins to make her way out when Mila catches up to her.
"Hey Hitomi," Mila calls from behind. "Do you have some time?"
The German grips her bag a little tighter. "Yes," she responds as she turns around. "I got time."
"I am curious about your little crush," Mila tells her. "And I think I can help."
"And how is that?" Hitomi asks.
"Follow me," the redhead says.
The two make their way to the library and take a seat at one of the tables.
"So?" Mila asks, leaning in and placing her chin in her hands. "Who is the one who has caught your eye? Do I know them?"
Might as well just tell her. "Yes," Hitomi answers. "They are someone you know."
"Wait." Mila's eyes widen slightly. "Is it Leifang?"
Hitomi lets out a breath. "Yes," she answers. "It is."
"Oh how exciting," Mila tells her with a big grin. "Do you know what you are going to do?"
"No," the German girl responds. "I don't."
"Why don't you just try the old school classic?" Mila suggests.
"Old school classic?"
"Yeah," Mila answers. She reaches into her bag and takes out a piece of paper. "Pass her a note. Isn't your next class with her?." She writes on the sheet and hands it to Hitomi.
Hitomi takes it and stares at the words for a moment. "I suppose it is worth a shot," she says.
"There you go," Mila says as she gives Hitomi a slap on the back. She grabs her bag and stands from the chair. Before she leaves, she turns to Hitomi. "Good luck," she says.
The German places the paper into her bag. She takes a moment to mentally prepare herself before she stands and grabs her things. Here goes nothing.

Hitomi makes her way into the classroom and looks around for Leifang.
Looks like she isn't here yet. She makes her way toward the back and places her bag beside her as she takes a seat. She reaches for her textbook and retrieves it along with her notebook. The German's heart jumps when she looks up and spots Leifang making her way into the room. She follows her with her eyes as she takes a seat a couple rows below. A moment later the professor makes her way into the room.
"Alright," she calls. "Everyone take your seats." Mrs. Parker, a short blonde, places her supplies on the table at the front of the room.
Hitomi listens to the professor and takes down some notes. She takes the note from her bag and asks the person in front of her to pass it to Leifang. After a couple more people, Leifang takes the sheet and opens it. She gets a stunned expression and looks up toward HItomi, who gives her a sheepish smile. Leifang turns her attention back to the paper and begins to write on it. After she finishes, the note finds its way back to Hitomi. She hesitates and eventually opens it and takes a peak. Relief and anxiety flood through her as she looks at the answer.
Yes.
Hitomi can't believe her eyes. Leifang checked yes. She looks up and Leifang is giving her a nervous smile. She checks the note again and here is a short response below saying to meet after their final class. Hitomi stares at her book and tries to go back to her work. This is going to be a long wait.

School has just let out for the day and Hitomi makes her way to the meeting place that Leifang specified on the note. She grips her bag tightly and turns a corner. Leifang spots her coming and gives her a big smile that helps put the German at ease.
"I didn't expect you to answer so quickly," Hitomi tells her as she walks up.
"Well," Leifang responds as she plays with her dark hair. "I didn't really need to think about it." She pauses as Hitomi sits down next to her. "Because I like you too Hitomi."
Hitomi takes a moment to process Leifang's words. "What," she responds. "Really?"
"Yes," Leifang says. "I want to try this with you."
Hitomi takes and pulls Leifang in for a tight hug. "Thank you," the German says. "I promise I will try my best to be good for you."
"LIkewise," Leifang responds.
The two hold each other for a long moment and Leifang pulls away.
"As long as you help me study," she says. "I have a couple subjects that I am not as good at."
"Deal."
