Chapter 3
To take Lola's attention off of her mom and Adam, Faith jumped up and ran over to her.
"Hi, Lola!"
"Faith? What are you doing here? In Miami?" she asked as she patted her on the shoulder.
Faith intentionally looked over to Adam. "Adam brought me when my dad couldn't come. He had business down here."
"Oh, really? That was nice of him."
Even though Lola said it in a light tone, Faith had the inkling that she really didn't think it was meant that way, so she added, "He was going to go back to the plane, but I asked Noah to let him stay until I was ready to leave. I'm not allowed to fly commercially yet because of the transplant, so he'd have to wait in the plane for me otherwise."
"We can't have that, now can we?"
Before Faith could respond to what she thought was another dig at her uncle, Noah and Sharon walked over with Adam lagging behind. As the three greeted each other, Adam came over to her. "Hey, Faith. I'm going to head back to the jet and do some work. Just come back with your mom when you're ready or call me and I"ll have the car service pick you up, okay?"
Faith felt kinda bad for him. "You don't have to leave."
Adam looked at Sharon, Noah, and Lola. "Yeah, I think I do," he said, downtrodden. Then, he made a wide berth around the group and exited out the door without a backward glance. While her mom didn't move a muscle, Faith saw her eyes track him as he left and she could sense that her mom was upset.
And she didn't like it.
