Chapter 5

The night had been going so well until Lola showed up. Sharon knew Lola was expected to attend given that she and Noah had been spending a great deal of time together recently. However, she wasn't prepared to deal with having to explain Adam's presence in Miami. Sharon knew that Lola would text Rey later and that she'd be facing an inquisition when she returned.

Even though she and Adam had agreed to keep their distance and had, so far, been sticking to their boundaries, Rey was still incredibly insecure over him. And now with Chelsea filling his head with lies, there was no way he would let his obsession go anytime soon.

Sharon stayed with him. She has bent over backwards since their reconciliation to convince him he's the one she wants a life with. Yet he's still fixated on Adam.

Adam was all he talked about on their trip. How he's so glad that mess with Adam is over. How happy he is that Adam is out of their lives. How relieved he is that Chelsea finally got away from Adam.

Nevermind the fact that Chelsea poisoned him out of jealousy despite taking Adam back over and over knowing how he feels.

When does Chelsea have to start taking responsibility for her role in that relationship? All she's ever wanted was Adam to herself away from Newman and his family, the two things besides his children that matter the most in the world to him. If she loved him, truly loved him, she'd want him to have that, not isolate him from it.

All Sharon has ever wanted for him was a chance to have a real relationship with his family and she's incredibly happy he's finally getting his shot.

She loves Adam, but chaos always follows them like a wrecking ball whenever they're together.

So, she'd settle for the moments.

They were better than nothing, she thought, as she climbed in the car to head to the airport with her daughter - and, surprisingly, her son.
