Chapter 13: Time for school

"Are you ready?" Dimitri grabs my hand, as we drive towards the school gates.

"No, but no one else needs to know that." laughing as he parks the car, he hops out and opens my door. It is in the middle of the night which means everyone is going to be in the middle of their day, training or hustling to classes. Which means this is the worst time to arrive.

Kissing my forehead he pulls me from the car "Come on let's give them something really interesting to talk about."

The change of class bell echoes through the air as we make our way towards Alberta's office to check in. It almost feels unnatural not to part as we walk through the heart of campus, but we don't. Instead Dimitris hand holds fast to mine squeezing it tight, earning us stares from students and guardians alike. If we're being honest most of the stares from the girls are envious, and the looks from the guardians show more curiosity than animosity. It doesn't make it any less awkward though as we move through the crowd clear to Alberta office.

"Well, hello, I guess I can't call you Hathaway anymore can I?" Alberta seems genuinely happy to see us.

"Not anymore, but honestly maybe being a Belikov will tame me a bit." laughing I wink at Dimitri who just shakes his head.

"I wouldn't dare get my hopes up. Now down to business the hardest thing quite frankly has been figuring out housing. I do believe we have found a suitable arrangement however. The old Morio senior suits are set to become the junior suits but not until next year, each one has a small kitchenette, bathroom, and furniture. It's out of sight and you'll be the only ones in the building as all the seniors have moved into the new dorms as of winter break. So, what do you think?"

The old senior suits were far better than anything I dared hoped for, they all have beautiful wooden floors, Large extravagant bathtubs, and showers. Not to mention having the whole place to myself and Dimitri. Alberta must sense my excitement. She hands us each a key and dismisses us letting us know we can take the rest of the day to pack, and move in. All smiles and giggles I practically skip to my dorm dragging Dimitri along with me.

The hallway to my dorm is packed, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. As we make our way toward my dorm, people part, making us a path, which only lengthens my confusion.

"What is everyone doing here?" Dimitri asks more to himself than anyone else. Slowly making my way to the door I stop dead in my tracks when I see what everyone is staring at.

Jesse who seems to always be around when I least want him to be says " Is it true bloodwhore? You get yourself knocked up then con some poor guardian to marry you?"

If I wasn't so damn shocked I would have decked his ass into next week, but I'm too absorbed in the pictures plastering the door and walls surrounding my dorm. My heart aches at the scene my ultrasound picture is everywhere, big black letters run across reading "WHOSE THE DADDY ROSE"

I feel Dimitris hand around my arm pulling. "Roza come on." he whispers, still attempting to drag my numb self away.

As soon as we are out of range of the other students I stop facing him "Who the hell did that?"

"I don't know, look why don't you go check out the new apartment and I'll clear the halls and call in some back up. Once we can move everything I'll come get you."

"Dimitri this is bad, what the hell are we going to do?"

"I know Roza but everything will be okay, just head over try to relax I'm not going to let anything happen to either of you." placing a hand over my stomach he kisses me. Sending me off to find our new home for the next few months.

The old dorms are as beautiful as I remember. Everything is fully furnished, the living room holds two grey faux suede couches, and a large T.V is mounted on the wall. The kitchenette has beautiful white and gray marble countertops. The farthest side of the counter doubles as a bartop, with tall chairs pushed neatly in. Dark hardwood floors line the whole of the apartment. The bathroom has black countertops and a deep bristle white sink, with a matching porcelain claw foot double wide bathtub. The shower is large enough to fit five people, there is a shower head up top and to either side. A sturdy glass door slides open and close. The bedroom is the last room I check out. In the large room sits a tall king size bed, with matching side tables. Lamps are built into either side of the head board and a fluffy white comforter sits on the bed lined with welcoming pillows. On the bed is a note

I thought this might suit you better than the twins we usually have in the dorms, Enjoy.

-Alberta

The bed looks so inviting and comfortable. Suddenly I realize how absolutely exhausted I am. Stripping into my underwear I slip into bed and fall into a dreamless sleep.

Strong hands push hair out of my face cupping my cheek."Mhh, hey Comrade."

"Hello Roza, I thought you might be hungry, come eat some dinner milaya."

Nodding, I climb out of bed pulling the blanket with me, up to the bar stools."How did you manage to get pizza?"

"Guardian secrets Roza" smiling he slides me a plate, before digging in himself.

For the first time I notice boxes piled all around me"Did you move everything yourself?"

"I had some help, you seemed so tired, besides you aren't supposed to be doing any heavy lifting anyway."

"Thank you after I'm done. I'll start unpacking everything. Did you find anything out about the door?"

"No, the cameras in the halls were out, no one who knows about the baby would have done anything like that."

"What are people saying? Is it bad?" I ask in between bites.

"I wouldn't dare repeat some of the things the guardians have said, most of that has to do with me being an idiot and you being well like I said not something I want to repeat. I haven't been around the students but I assume it's much the same."

"Why can't we ever just have more than a few days of peace?" My heart is heavy, despite my earlier nap I feel very tired.

"I know, it's hard but think about the good things milaya. We are married, we're having a baby, and I know you're excited to be living in the old dorms."

"I am excited, I just… I don't know, I just want to make sure our family is safe."

"Me too."

Thinking about the little bean I remember the Dr, Appointment I have tomorrow. "Are you able to come tomorrow, did you get the shift off?"

"I wouldn't miss it for the world." and with that we settle into a quiet rhythm of unpacking turning this small corner of campus into our own personal safe haven.

"Well Rose it looks like everything is going great. Ten weeks you should start to have more of an appetite and for most women morning sickness should be getting better. You're on chart for growth. Now lets take a look at your little one."

This is the first time Dimirti has been able to come to a doctor's appointment with me, it's the first time he'll get to see the baby. I watch his eyes light up as Doc moves the wand around, finally stopping on our little blob. The familiar sound of a rapid lub dub, echoes in the room. I turn to Dimitri, his eyes glazed over as a tear slips down his cheek. Squeezing his hand I watch the little spot on screen myself smiling. At this moment I know without a doubt that both he and I will do anything to keep our little miracle safe, no matter the consequences no matter who the threat may be.
