Hey there. I know that this chapter is slightly late, but that's because of college-related things. Simply put, I haven't had that much free time. I've also been spending a lot of time writing this chapter. Anyway, here it is, and I hope you like it.
The group approached the border of the area they were in. Ahead of them was a wall, with a large open gate that the dirt path led straight to. Above it was a banner that read: 'FOXY'S PIRATE COVE.'
"Hey look, I was right," Carlton said, glancing at the text above. "Foxy."
John groaned. "Carlton, I'm sure all of us thought that," he said. "You aren't winning."
"Fine," Carlton said, shaking his head. "I was the first to say it though, so don't I get anything?"
"No," Jessica said, pushing him aside."Let's go, I'm already beginning to feel hot here."
John nodded. "Yeah, I agree with you. It is really hot here." He turned around, staring at a fake cactus that stood in the sand. "I don't even know how they make this place feel real."
"I have a theory, but I don't know if it is true or not," Charlie said. The others turned to him, expecting a little more elaboration, but they found none.
"What's your theory?" Jessica asked.
"Well uh," Charlie began. She sighed. "Illusion discs? I mean, it's the only thing I can think of," she said.
Jessica's eyes narrowed, feeling a chill travel down her spine. "Charlie, those were only made by Afton. If you're right, then William Afton is the one running the show."
"Forget it, let's get out of here," Carlton said. They all exited Vinnie's Wild West, entering the Foxy's Pirate Cove. Immediately, the atmosphere changed to something tropical yet cool. They stood on a large wooden dock. To the left of them, there was a set of tables with chairs. Some of the tables had people sitting at them, eating food. Behind the tables, there was wooden rail, and for every other table, a lamp post extended from the railing. Beyond the railing stood a large pool of water that had waves rushing in, splashing against the dock. The water was clear, but dark. If they didn't know any better, they would assume that they were at a real harbor. There were rocks off to the side, piled up near the border wall separating Foxy's Pirate Cove with Vinnie's Wild West. The border wall was also overgrown with vines.
"Those waves look so real," Jessica said. Her eyes lit up a little bit, shocked and surprised by everything that was happening around her. "Wow, this is just... unbelievable," she continued. She couldn't believe that something like this would be in a theme park. Sure, she knew that there would be some sort of harbor like this, but she didn't expect this much detail to be put in it, and certainly not as much realism. "I feel like my mind is being overloaded."
There were boats connected to the docks. Most of them were small, but some of them were larger. Some people sat on the ledge of the dock, buckets of water to their side and holding a fishing pole, their lines cast into the water. In fact, some people were swimming in the water, both children and adults. At the far side of the dock, there were children fighting with fake swords.
"I can't believe it either," John said. There seemed to be a thick fog that clouded the view of everything thirty meters away, though there seemed to be some sort of beach at the far side where the wall was. It actually seemed like more of a haze. "It's like I'm actually at one of those harbors from way back. It's crazy."
"Yeah, and the atmosphere changed too," Charlie said. "It feels a lot cooler here, but I don't understand how that's possible." She looked forward. Further ahead, there seemed to be a queue that led to one of those swinging pirate ship rides, where people would strap themselves in a seat and the ship would pivot around an elevated point in the air. I hate those, she thought. They always make me sick.
"People are fishing!" Jessica said. "And swimming. It's like this is an actual harbor. This is incredible!" she remarked.
"Yeah, I like it," John said. "This place looks nice."
"So, does anyone want to ride the vomit-inducing swinging pirate ship?" Carlton asked. However, none of them seemed interested in the slightest. "No? Well, I'm not interested either," Carlton said. He looked to his right; a long stairway made entirely of gray bricks led to an elevated area, a pathway. It actually looked like a street, though a large and open street that one would usually find from a city in the sixteenth century. There were wooden crates scattered about, as well as lamp posts near the railing. There were a few food stands off by the ledge where people were selling drinks, fruits, seafood, and other things of the like.
"Well, I'm liking this place already," Carlton said. He walked up the long staircase that led to the elevated street. Several people walked by him, though they didn't seem to take notice of him. The others followed him. He turned to the right, noticing a building next to him. The walls were made entirely of stone bricks, with windows made of orange glass. The top half of the building was actually made of dark wood, likely pine wood. The roof was made of red brick. He looked to the door, which was made of dark wood; it was wide open, and he watched people go in and out of it.
"I wonder what's in there," Carlton said. Jessica, John, and Charlie walked up to him, studying the architecture.
"Hmm," Charlie muttered. "I wonder too. Let's check it out." They all seemed to nod in agreement. Charlie stepped inside the building—it was a shop. The floor was made of wood, the walls were made of stone bricks, and the room was lit by oil lamps. There were shelves all around with different items for sale on them: fishing rods, fishing lines, bait, snacks, fake plastic swords, and other things that match the theme. In the back, there were pirate costumes, hats, hooks, and so on. "Everything looks good here," Charlie said. "Does anything interest you guys?"
"Nah," John said. "I'll pass." The others shook their heads.
"There isn't really anything here I want to buy here either, honestly," Carlton said.
"Well then let's move on and see what's in the next building," Charlie said. She stepped outside and continued walking down the street, passing by that building and walking past the gap between it and another building of a similar design. There were a bunch of wooden crates shoved into the space between the buildings, though they seemed almost entirely decorative. "I wonder how much this park cost to build." She peeked inside the entrance to the next building: it appeared to be a kind of restaurant
"It has to be at least hundreds of thousands," John said. He walked up to a large fountain that was in the middle of the street, surrounded by a railing made of stone. "I mean, this place just feels so lively," John said. He sat down on the ledge of the fountain, looking at the swinging ride far ahead of him. The pirate ship was swinging back and forth around a pivoting point, and people on the ride had their arms in the air.
"It really does feel lively, but something feels missing," Jessica said.
"Oh? What's missing?" John asked.
"I'm not quite sure, but something just feels off about this place. Like for instance, a bathroom," she said. "Just, obvious things that you would expect to find in such a big place."
"It's probably nothing," Carlton said. He turned and looked to the side, seeing another large wooden ship docked. However, that one was different from the one he saw before. For one, it was much smaller. However, there was else of note: there was an animatronic on board the ship. That animatronic was of course Foxy. He was talking to a small crowd of people standing on the dock. "Huh, that's odd. Why would they put an animatronic on a ship so close to the ledge? What if the animatronic fell over?" he asked.
"I'm sure they have measures to prevent that," Charlie said as she walked over with the others to check out the scene. This Foxy seemed different; He had the same colors, and he still had a hook, but Foxy was made of plastic instead of fur. He still had his signature yellow eyes, and there also seemed to be some damage to him, however, the damage appeared to be more of a design choice than the result of an actual accident.
"Yeah, that makes sense," Carlton said. He walked over to one of the food stands, where someone was selling hot dogs. He looked at the menu and smiled, reaching into his wallet and getting out a $5 bill. "Hey, I'd like a hot dog," he said, putting the money on the stand. The man behind the stand had a name tag that read 'RYAN.'
"Of course. What toppings would you like, if any?" he asked.
"Ketchup and relish," Carlton said. Ryan nodded, getting out a hot dog from the grill and spreading some ketchup on it, and then, he spread relish on it.
"Here you go," he said, handing Carlton the hot dog. Carlton smiled.
"Thank you," he said, and after that, he took a bite into the hot dog, eating it. "Wow, this is good."
"You're welcome," Ryan said. "I hope you have a nice day."
"You too," Carlton said. He walked off and bumped into Charlie. "Oh, sorry. I didn't see you there."
"It's fine," she said. "Hey, why are you getting a hot dog? I mean, it's your choice, but we already had Mexican," Charlie said.
"Oh, well I just wanted to have something to eat, you know?" Carlton asked.
"I kind of understand," Charlie said. "I'm actually a bit hungry too. I drove for twelve hours on a mostly empty stomach, so it wasn't nice. I don't even think the Mexican lunch filled me."
Carlton smiled. "Was it worth it to be here?" John and Jessica walked up to them.
Charlie nodded. "Absolutely." She then turned to the pirate ship that Foxy was on earlier. They were much closer to it now. Carlton took another bite into his hot dog, while Charlie, John, and Jessica watched what was going on. Foxy walked over to a rack at the side of the ship and picked up what appeared to be a sword, made of steel through and through, yet dulled to the point where it would be completely useless as a weapon. He then took three slightly lighter ones and walked back to where he was before, standing before a small crowd.
"That's enough talking," Foxy said, walking off the ship and onto the dock. "Would you like to play a game?" he asked the crowd. Around half of the crowd raised their hands. Foxy pointed to a few people and spoke. "Those of you who I have not chosen and had their hands in the air, please go onboard that ship and decide who the captain will be. Everyone else who had their hands in the air will come with me, and they will serve as my crew."
Some people walked off and onto the ship, and they began talking amongst themselves. Others walked up to Foxy, and he handed them the three swords he took from the rack. "Now, let me explain what the objective of this game is. I'm a pirate, the former captain of a ship that gained a fearsome reputation of being brutal and ruthless when it comes to piracy," Foxy said. "Unfortunately, my ship sunk last week. Now, I don't want me or my crew to be arrested, so I have a plan: I'm going to steal that ship you see there!" he said.
"These animatronics seem a lot more involved. I mean, they're actually playing games with people," John said. "I never would have expected that."
"Me neither. But hey, it's cool," Charlie said.
"Ready? Now, let's steal that ship!" Foxy shouted. He raised his sword in the air and ran to the ship, with a few other people, now wearing pirate hats, following him to the ship. One of the people on board the ship aimed a cannon at one of the pirates and fired at him, and a bunch of confetti was shot out of the cannon, hitting the person. He fell, not injured, but surprised. He put his sword down, understanding that he would be dead if this were an actual scenario.
There were now just three pirates, including Foxy. Foxy was the first to get on board the ship, and one of the crewmen immediately ran up to him, carrying his sword. "If you leave, I won't hurt you. I'm just defending my ship," he said.
"Oh, but you are mistaken. It isn't your ship anymore, it is my ship!" Foxy said, laughing maniacally. He then raised his sword, swinging forward to strike the crewman, but the crewman blocked the attack with his sword. The two clashed for about a minute, but eventually, Foxy managed to 'stab' the crewman with the sword, and he fell down to the floor, faking his death. The other pirates joined in, and the crew clashed with Foxy and the other pirates.
John smiled. "That looks like fun," he said.
"It sure does," Charlie said, watching the skirmish. By now, most of the crew and pirates have been eliminated It was now a showdown between a crewman and Foxy. They clashed fiercely with their swords as if they were fighting for their life. Eventually, the battle finished, with the crewman stabbing Foxy square in the chest.
"It looks like you won," Foxy said. "Since you won, you get to earn an exclusive prize: a plush of me wearing a pirate hat, which you won't find in any of the shops!"
Jessica smiled, watching what took place. She turned to the others. "Well, I think that's about it for the pirate cove. Do you guys want to come back to the stage area? There is another section that we completely missed," she said.
"Are you sure about that? I mean, we haven't even met Foxy yet," John said. "And I'm sure there's much more here."
"I agree," Charlie said, placing a hand on John's shoulder. "There is so much we haven't explored. Remember, we aren't in a rush, and this place closes at eleven in the morning. Right now, it's," she began. She glanced down at her watch. "It's 4:36. We have seven hours to hang around here."
Carlton smiled. "Yeah. I like this place too."
"Okay," Jessica said. She smiled too. She then walked down the set of stairs that led to the other side of the dock; it made an upside-down T shape. To the right of the T was Foxy's pirate ship, and to the left was the part of the dock that Jessica and the others were at before. "I suppose we should go straight ahead?" she asked.
"I wanna see Foxy," Carlton said. "I always liked him the most." The others walked over to the seating area right next to the pirate ship that was docked. There were two stands that sold food and drinks, and by the ledge, there was a stand that had a bunch of Foxy plushies for sale. Foxy himself sat on the stairs that led to the catwalk that connected the ship to the dock. Carlton sat down in one of the seats and waved at Foxy.
"Oh, hello there!" Foxy said. He walked over and extended his hand. "I'm Foxy the Pirate, and I own that big ship you see right there."
Carlton smiled, though nervously. "That's... nice," he said. He felt his heart pounding against his chest. Sure, he liked Foxy, and he thought that the scene from before was cool, but that didn't stop him from remembering the countless times animatronics chased him and tried to kill him in the past. Regardless, he shook Foxy's hand. "I'm Carlton. It's nice to meet you."
"Carlton, huh?" Foxy asked. "That's a nice name. I haven't seen you around here before; are you new to the park?"
John and Jessica walked over to the seating area next to Foxy's ship. Carlton smiled. "Yeah, I'm new to this park. I'm really liking it though, especially this part. If I had to choose, I would say that this is the best area of the park that I've been to."
"I'm glad to hear that!" Foxy said, somehow able to make a smile. "And these are your friends?" he asked, turning to Jessica and John.
"Yeah," John said. "It was my idea to come here after I saw the flyer. I swear, people from Hurricane are obsessing about this park, and I can see why."
Foxy nodded. "Well, you two will find a lot of surprises in this park, I'll tell you that," he said.
"That's great," Carlton said. Then, Foxy turned back to his ship, going on board and into the back room. Carlton sighed, turning back to the others. "So now what do we do?" he asked.
"I suppose we should check out the rest of this area," Jessica said. She then walked down the short end of the dock. There were children running around, and to the left, separated by a narrow body of water, the queue for the pirate ship. There were many people waiting in line. Charlie and the others followed Jessica past the rocking pirate ship and to another area; they were now at the far side of Foxy's pirate cove. Off the dock, there was a small island with a palm tree on it, and it had a small hut on it. The dock made a sharp left turn, so the others turned and continued walking down the dock. To the right of them, there was yet another palm island, but there was also a fort or bunker made of stone bricks and having two dark windows, with a cannon on top of it. The Union Jack flag hung from the fort.
"That's an odd flag," John said.
"Hmm," Carlton muttered. "Maybe this harbor is supposed to be part of a British colony," he said. "It would explain the pirates."
Charlie nodded. "Yeah. That's probably the case." She turned around, and there seemed to a large wooden hut with an opening in the front, almost as if it were a bar. There were stools all around, and there were people sitting down, drinking some beverages. "This place has a bar, huh."
"I'm telling you, this park isn't holding back," Carlton said. "I mean if they modify actual guns for their games, they could do about anything," he said. "Now I'm no expert, but those swords that were used on that ship raid looked like actual swords that had the proper weight."
"Yeah, that's my point," Charlie said. "I haven't been to parks that have gone this far," she said. She then smiled. "I like it."
"Me too," John said. He sat down on the ledge of the dock, looking at the waves produced in the water. "I mean, this place just looks and feels amazing. I don't know how they managed to do it, but I absolutely love it," John said.
Jessica smiled. "I'm gonna grab a drink." She then walked over to the bar and sat down in an empty stool. The bartender turned to face her; she had a nametag that read 'AMANDA.'
"Hey there, could I get you anything?" Amanda asked.
"Yes, please. I would like an orange soda," she said. Amanda nodded her head, walking over to the soda machine and pouring a glass of orange soda. She then handed the glass to Jessica. "Here you go. That would be $1.99," she said.
"Okay," she said. She reached into her pocket and produced 2 $1.00 bills, placing them on the table. The bartender took the money. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," Amanda said. Jessica took a sip of it before walking back, over to the area at the dock where the other three were. John and Charlie were sitting down on the ledge. Jessica bent down, kneeling.
"So, what's going on here?" Jessica asked.
"We are just talking about the park," Charlie said. "We are just really impressed with it."
"Yeah, you've said that for the past hour," Jessica said.
"Okay, sure," Charlie said. "Still, don't you find it a bit strange?"
"What, the attention to detail? I mean, it's strange, but probably spent more," Jessica said.
"I feel like something else is at work here. I mean—we are talking Fazbear Entertainment, a company that is notorious for cutting corners. I can't help but feel that something is happening behind the scenes."
"Maybe," Jessica said. She then turned to John. "What do you think?"
"I really don't know," John said. He then got up. "Something is wrong here. I can feel it," he said.
"Feel it? What do you mean?" Charlie asked.
"I don't know, just the sensation that something terrible happened here. It's probably nothing," John said. Jessica nodded.
"Probably." Jessica then took another sip from her cup of soda before walking back down the dock. "Come on, I think we should go the next area of the park."
"Are you sure?" John asked.
"Yeah," Jessica said. "We could always come back here, you know," she said.
The police car pulled up in the parking lot. Clay stepped out of the car, locking the door. He stood outside the New Harmony Police Station, which was much smaller than the one in Hurricane, and understandably so—the city had a much lower population, and thus, a smaller budget. He looked down at his watch. 4:52.
He then stepped inside the station. Though it had a similar style to the police station in Hurricane, it was indeed small. A middle-aged woman with black hair and green eyes got up from a seat and walked up to him. "You're Chief Burke, aren't you?" she asked.
"Unfortunately, I am," Clay said. He extended his hand for a shake. She grabbed his hand and then shook it.
"It's nice to meet you. Welcome to New Harmony," she said. "I'm Deputy Samson. I'm in charge of this place for the time being." Her expression had a touch of nervousness; by now, Clay was used to working with other departments. so he wasn't quite as nervous as her. "I think it would be best if we talked in my office. I can't stand all this commotion," she said. She walked into the hallway, and two doors down on the left stood an office with the marking of "EMILY SAMSON, DEPUTY CHIEF." She stepped inside the office, turning on the lights and walking over to her chair. Clay stepped inside, closing the door behind him. "Come have a seat."
"Okay." Clay sat down in one of the chairs, putting the file folder he took from the station in Hurricane down on the desk. "My files are in here, all organized by date."
"Okay," Emily said. "So, you told me that you have worked on the Freddy's case before?" she asked.
"Yes," Clay bobbed his head. "Back then I was a police detective in Hurricane. I mostly dealt with thefts and speeding, things like that—never a kidnapping or a murder."
"Alright, that makes sense. So out of the frying pan and into the fire?" Emily said.
"Sure. Still, I think it would be helpful if I would be allowed to work on the case at Fredbear's Fun Park," he said.
"Unfortunately, that won't be possible," Emily finally said. "You see, we closed the case and cleared the park of any suspicion. They found out who the person was that tampered with the animatronics, and the person has been arrested."
"Arrested?" Clay asked. He took a note and a pen. "Who was arrested?"
"Some guy named Chris Beckett," Emily said. "They showed the department security footage of her putting on an animatronic costume, and then footage of that costume being used to tamper with the animatronics."
"Oh, that's good," Clay said. He wasn't being honest at all, though, and he did not believe for a second that this 'Chris' person was responsible. There were too many coincidences. However, it was clear that the department was refusing to let him work for them. However, he had another idea in mind, an idea that might seem crazy.
"Sorry about that," Emily said.
"It's all well and good. The case seems resolved," Clay said. He then stepped out of the station and walked over to his car. His keys were still in the ignition. He slipped inside the driver seat and he drove off, however, he didn't go back home. No, he was heading deeper into New Harmony—towards Fredbear's Fun Park.
