Professor Ray 'Brains' Hackenbacker had arrived in Oxford. He had been invited to give a weeks worth of talks at the University of Oxford. Since his son Fermat was in Oxford studying for his PhD, Brains had arranged that he would stay with Fermat.

Three o'clock in the afternoon the Friday before he was due to start the talks, he arrived in Oxford. He had let himself in to Fermat's house as Fermat had said he would be out until around half past five. Brains made himself a coffee and sat on the couch with his laptop, going over his notes for the lectures he was to give.

Sure enough, half five arrived and Fermat walked in the front door. With him was a young woman dressed in jeans and a purple blouse, her long blonde hair was dip-dyed pink at the tips. A guitar was slung over her shoulder. Smiling, Brains had hugged Fermat.
"Dad, I w-would like you to m-m-meet Sophia. My g-girlfriend" Fermat said. "Fee, this is my d-dad, Professor Ray Hackenbacker."
"It's a pleasure to meet you Professor" Fee greeted him. "Fermat's told me a lot about you."
"L-likewise. And p-please, call me Brains" Brains said, hugging Fee as well. "F-Fermat has sp-sp, t-talked a l-lot about y-you too." Fee smiled, returning the hug.

Two hours later, Brains was following the couple into a pub in the town center. He knew that, as well as studying for a degree in Computer Science at Oxford Brookes, Fee worked part-time behind the bar in one of the pubs in the city center. He also knew that she was a singer-songwriter, and once a month, instead of working behind the bar, she would take her guitar with her and perform. Tonight was a performance night.

With a see you later, Fee headed out the back and Fermat took his Dad to meet his friends. As they waited for Fee to begin, Brains had spoken to his son's friends about their various projects, and he'd told them a little about a couple of his current (non-classified) projects. They would end up with some interesting papers at the end of their projects.

Brains watched with Fermat and the others as Fee played her guitar and sang. Interspersed with covers of well known songs were originals. Fermat had been right. She was good. Really good.

Brains smiled at Fermat and Fee, who had curled up together on the couch as they chatted. After she had finished her set, Fee had joined them for a drink before coming back to Fermat's house with them. He could see how much the young couple loved one another, how happy they were together. He was pleased for his son.

Brains also made a mental note to speak to Mr Tracy when he returned home; he had a feeling Fermat would want to bring Fee to the Island, and probably tell her about International Rescue, in the near future.
