"He was on the Island before us." Stuhlinger said to Eli Vanto.
"Who was on the Island before us?" Princess Luna asked him.
"Ethan, I don't think he woke up here. I think he was already here." Stuhlinger told her.
"Well, where the hell is he?" Vanto questioned Stuhlinger. Zuud had passed out.
"I don't know. I saw him yesterday, but now-"
"Has anyone seen Ethan?" Vanto yelled, looking at everyone in the caves.
"Zuud's leg." Luna said, pointing at it. Nurse Redheart went over to check on Zuud.
"Has anyone seen Ethan?" Vanto asked again.
Applejack nodded."Yeah. He went to go get some wood. He took off on the path to the beach. Is he okay? What happened?"
"Where's Tucker?" Vanto asked.
"What?" Said Luna.
"Where's Tucker?"
"He went after Jeela." Said Wilhuff Tarkin. Vanto and Tarkin then ran through the jungle, hoping to find them.
Tarkin stopped running."Vanto!"
Vanto also stopped and noticed a bag that belonged to Jeela."She was moving back to the beach." Vanto said."Jeela. That's her. What happened? What-"
"I don't know," Tarkin said. He then looked at the ground."Footprints. At least three distinct sets are all over the place. It looks like there might have been a struggle." Tarkin then saw something else on the ground.
"What?" Asked Vanto."What is it?"
"Drag marks. Here. And here." The Grand Moff pointed with his knife.
"Jeela and Tucker. They were together." Vanto said.
"I think they've been taken." Said Tarkin.
Vanto looked around."Jeela! Tucker! Jeela!" He yelled.
"Vanto. Vanto." Tarkin whispered. Vanto looked at Tarkin."Shhhh." He said.
The two walked quietly through the jungle. Tarkin noticed a broken branch."Tracks are still fresh." The Grand Moff said.
"This doesn't make any sense." Vanto said."How can one man drag off two people, one of them pregnant?"
"You're asking the wrong question." Said Tarkin."Not how, why?"
Vanto looked at him."You think it was Ethan."
"It certainly feels like it was Ethan, doesn't it?"
"By himself. How?" Vanto asked.
"We can't account for all our people. And, more importantly, who's to say they're even our people." Tarkin said.
Vanto was confused."What?"
"Zuud said there were others."
"Zuud said we're not alone." Vanto said.
"Semantics."
"Zuud's injured. We're not even sure where she went. She's delirious." Said Vanto.
"I'm just telling you what the ground is telling me." Tarkin said to him.
"So, which way is the ground telling you what they went?" Vanto asked.
"Vanto, we don't know what's going on here."
"We know enough."
"We need to prepare. We could be back at the caves in 10 minutes, organize a search party, get wea-"
"Which way did they go, Tarkin?" Vanto didn't care if he was a Grand Moff. Surprisingly, Tarkin wasn't angry at him. Tarkin pointed at the direction and Vanto ran through the jungle.
Flashback.
An entire starship for Vanto's family's shipping company had been lost because of Icam Vanto, Eli's father. When the Chiss Ascendancy had allowed Eli to return to his homeworld, at least for a little while, he was happy to see his parents.
But while he was there, he learned that his father had lost a ship of supply and people. And Eli knew that his father had been drinking. He knew the reason why those people had died was that his father had been drunk.
On the Island.
"You let him go alone?" Luna asked Tarkin when he had returned to the cave.
"Don't worry. I'll catch up. What is the word from the beach?" Tarkin questioned.
"Nothing. Nobody has seen him." Luna said."I'm coming with you."
Tarkin gave her a knife."I figured you might." Tarkin said. Luna then used her magic to levitate the knife. She struggled a little since doing magic on the Island was very hard. Tarkin stared at her as she did that. He had seen her levitate other objects before."Are you...a Jedi, Luna?" He asked.
Luna was confused."What's a Jedi?"
Before Tarkin could tell her, they saw Jaime and Cersei walking to them."What are you doing?" Cersei asked Jaime as he walked to Tarkin and Luna."We need to get our water and get back to the beach-"
"I heard you're forming a search party." Jaime said to Tarkin."Can I help?"
"How exactly are you going to find them?" Cersei asked.
"By following Ethan's trail." Said Tarkin."No one can walk through the wilderness without leaving signs, bending blades of grass, breaking twigs, especially with captives in tow." Tarkin looked at Jaime."And yes, I could use another hand if you're up to it."
"I'm up for it." Jaime nodded.
Tarkin handed him a knife."Then let's get moving."
Applejack, Applebloom, and Winona were walking to Tarkin."I could take Winona and she could sniff something that belonged to Tucker. And I can help." Said Applebloom.
"I said no." Applejack said to her sister. The mare then looked at Tarkin."Hey, Tarkin. Hey, look, ya' know, a lot of us don't just want to sit here waiting for news."
"Thanks, but we're set. Anyone or anypony else will just slow us down." Tarkin said.
"Okay. Maybe I'll just put together another party." She said.
"Good idea. We're going north. I suggest you go south." Tarkin told her.
Tarkin, Luna, and Jaime then left. Applejack looked at her sister."Come on." She said.
"Vanto." Said Tarkin when they saw him."Vanto. It's a good thing you were going in a circle. Not much of a search grid, but we never would have found you otherwise."
"Did you find anything?" Luna asked Vanto.
The former Imperial shook his head."No."
"You should go back to the caves. Fix Zuud's leg." Tarkin suggested to Vanto.
"Redheart is dealing with Zuud's leg. You found me, we can find Tucker and Jeela. Now, do we have a trail to follow or not?" Vanto asked.
"Vanto, this was my fault." Tarkin said.
Vanto was surprised and confused by what he said."What?"
"I hunted with Ethan." Tarkin said."I spent time with him. I never sensed anything off. But for everything that I know about hunting, tracking-whoever he is, he knows more. If we catch up with him, I don't want anything to happen to you. So go back. Let me be the hunter."
"Can we go now?" Vanto asked.
Tarkin stared at him for a few moments before he nodded."Follow me."
"I'm trying to help and all he can tell me is go south?" Said Applejack as she filled some bottles with water."Like what? I'm going to get in his way or something?"
"We're all stressed out." Said Stuhlinger."Tarkin's just feeling it like the rest of us. I've also heard that he's a Grand Moff...whatever the fuck a Grand Moff is."
"I don't care who he is." Applejack said."There are five others who would've gone out there with me, putting our necks on the line to find Tucker and Jeela. All I'm saying is I'm getting sick of getting treated like a second-class citizen around here because Tarkin can bag a boar."
"He knows a lot more than how to catch a boar." Said Applebloom."Mr. Tarkin is a warrior. He can hunt, he can track stuff, and he found those knives on that starship. So, if it were me, I would listen to him."
Applejack looked at her sister, surprised."Well, I don't want you to. Do you understand?" Applebloom, reluctantly, nodded."You stay with Stuhlinger. I may not be a warrior, but I am going south." The element of Honesty then left.
"Back home, I'm known as something of a warrior myself." Stuhlinger smiled, remembering how he had killed zombies.
Applebloom only rolled her eyes.
Tarkin ripped the fabric of a shirt with his teeth."We mark our progress by line of sight. We tie these off so we don't get lost." Tarkin said.
"You can lead us back to camp, right?" Jaime asked.
"If nothing happens to me." Said Tarkin.
"Maybe I better tie some to a tree as well," Jaime said. Tarkin smiled a little.
Vanto and Luna, who had been looking around, walked back to Tarkin and Jaime."Anything?" Vanto asked.
Tarkin shook his head."Not yet."
"If you can't find the trail..."
"I'll pick it up again, alright." Tarkin said to Vanto."We need to rest for a minute to get our clarity back."
"You're going to take a break?" Vanto asked."It's got to be almost 4 o'clock. When the sun sets, there's no way-"
"It's 4:25." Tarkin interrupted him."And, yes, I'm taking a break."
"Can I talk to you for a moment." Luna said before Vanto could say anything else. The two walked away and were alone."Would it kill you to give him a little space?" She asked.
"It might." He said.
"Stop that." She said to him.
"What?" Vanto asked.
"That. What's going on?"
Vanto sighed."I didn't believe Jeela. I gave her a sedative."
When he said that, Luna knew what was wrong with him."Vanto, you can't..."
"She told me someone was after her, that she was being attacked and I...she just seemed so out of it. I thought that her pregnancy was amping up her stress and I...I didn't believe her."
"Vanto!" Tarkin yelled.
The two ran over to Tarkin and Jaime and they saw a small piece of armor on the ground."What is it?" Luna asked.
"It's Tucker's piece of armor. He's leaving us a trail." Vanto said.
Tarkin nodded in agreement.
As they walked through the jungle, Luna looked at Jaime's golden hand."If you don't mind me asking, how did you lose your hand?" Luna asked Jaime.
"A Dothraki named Zollo cut it off." Jaime said."But the man who ordered him to do, Vargo Hoat, is dead." Jaime remembered seeing Vargo's head at Harrenhal.
"Oh." Said Luna."Did...did you kill him?" She asked.
Jaime shook his head."No. The Mountain slowly tortured him to death."
Luna was disgusted by this. Vanto then found a trail.
"They went this way." Vanto pointed to the trail.
"I'm not so sure." Said Tarkin."There's another trail here."
"What do you mean, another?" Vanto asked him.
"These are footprints. People moved off this way." Tarkin explained.
"Tucker's leaving these for us to follow." Vanto pointed to the small armor parts."They went that way."
"Unless Tucker isn't the one leaving them." Said Princess Luna."If Ethan knows that we're behind him, he could be setting up a dummy trail. Take off in one direction, double-back his own footprints."
They all stared at Luna, surprised."Wait? Now you're a tracker?" Jaime asked.
"You're just full of surprises." Tarkin said.
"So, we've got two trails." Said Vanto."Let's split up. I'll take that one."
"No." Said Tarkin."We should stay together, Vanto."
Vanto looked at the Grand Moff."Why? We've got two trails and apparently two trackers."
"Be careful," Tarkin said.
They then went in different directions.
"Who got taken by what?" Beilert Valance asked Applebloom as they walked through the jungle.
"Tucker and Jeela. They think Ethan took them." Applebloom said.
"Ethan took them, huh?" Valance said.
Applebloom nodded."Yeah."
"Took them why? And who the hell is Ethan?"
Applebllom shrugged."I don't know. Nobody remembers seeing him when they woke up."
"Alright, pony. Where do you think Ethan came from?" The cyborg asked her.
"Maybe he was already on the Island before we were," Applebloom said.
"You have one heck of an imagination, kid." Valance smiled a little.
"There could be lots of other people on the Island," Applebloom said.
"So a tribe of evil natives planted a ringer in the camp to kidnap a pregnant girl and a soldier? Yeah, fiendishly clever. And why am I getting the news from you?" Valance asked.
"If you don't believe me, ask Zuud. She said we're not alone."
"Zuud's back?" Valance said, surprised.
Applebloom walked away.
As Tarkin and Jaime walked through the jungle, Jaime looked at Tarkin."Do you think we'll find them?" He asked.
Tarkin shrugged."I don't know. I do wonder who Ethan actually is though." Tarkin said. They continued to search for Jeela and Tucker.
Vanto was running while Luna followed him."Please, slow down." The mare said.
"You said they went this way," Vanto said.
"I think they went this way. I'm not as good at this as Tarkin is." Luna admitted.
"So, where did you pick up the tracking skills, Luna?"
"I'm trying to help, Vanto. Star-Swirl the bearded did teach me some things about tracking. Anything you want to share, Vanto?" Luna asked him.
Vanto just stood there, silent. They then continued looking for Jeela.
"Hello, Zuud." Valance said to the injured Imperial, walking to her.
"What do you want?" She asked.
"I should kill you for what you did to me," Valance said, remembering how she had shot him."Why did you come back though?" Valance asked, curious.
Zuud stared at him for a moment before she answered."I was taken prisoner by the French woman."
Valance was surprised by this."The one who's been sending out a distress signal for 16 years? She's alive?"
"She was on a science expedition. She said their ship wrecked." Zuud said.
"Is she alone?" Valance questioned her.
"She said that there are others on this Island." The Imperial Lieutenant said.
"Her people?" The cyborg asked her.
"No. She believed they had all gotten sick. She believed they had all gotten sick. She murdered her entire team." Zuud explained.
"Right. And these others. Who are they?" Valance asked.
"I don't know. She's never seen them." Zuud told him.
"Oh, she's never seen them but she knows they're there."
"If you believe her." Zuud said.
"Do you?" Valance questioned.
"Maybe. Maybe not. But on my way back, I heard something in the jungle surrounding me."
"Something like what?"
"Have you got something to say to me, Valance, or are you going to continue asking me questions you know I don't have the answers to?" Zuud asked him.
Valance stared at her for a moment."The tide's coming up the beach. The starship's almost in the water. I kept your signal fire burning." The cyborg said.
Zuud looked at him surprised. Beilert Valance then left her.
"Yes!" Said Applebloom as she won the game of cards. Applebloom and Stuhlinger had slowly learned how to play the cards that had been on the Arquitens-class command cruiser.
Stuhlinger groaned as he had lost the card game."C'mon, one more game. Double or nothing." Applebloom said.
"I can't. I have to go." Stuhlinger said, getting up to leave. He was hoping to talk to Richtofen again in his head.
"Hey, you owe me some money!" Said Applebloom.
"Don't worry. I'm sure Richtofen will give me a Double Points soon." Stuhlinger said before he left.
"It's been 15 minutes since we've seen any sign. What are we following?" Jaime asked Tarkin.
"My gut." Tarkin said.
"Great."
"So, Jaime, what did you do in your world?" Tarkin asked.
"I was a Knight." He said.
"A Jedi Knight?" Tarkin asked with a smile.
"What's a...Jedi?" Jaime questioned, confused.
"They were a group of people that served a government called the Republic. But the Republic is gone. And so are the Jedi." Tarkin stopped."It's going to start raining in one minute."
"One minute?" Said Jaime, looking at the sky.
"Give or take a few seconds. You should turn around, Jaime, and head back." Tarkin said.
"What?" Jaime looked at him.
"The trail's been cold for a quarter-mile, dangerous terrain ahead. If you start now, you'll make it back to camp before dark." Tarkin said to him.
"What about you?" Jaime asked.
"I can take care of myself." Tarkin said.
Jaime shook his head."No, I'm not heading back."
"I admire your courage, but-"
"I'm not heading back."
Tarkin smiled."Alright."
It then started to rain. Jaime continued to follow Tarkin.
Vanto found another small piece of armor that belonged to Tucker."I guess we were right." He said as it was raining."Where to now?"
Suddenly, Vanto heard Jeela screaming. He started running to the source of the noise."Vanto?" Said Luna."Vanto, where are you going? Vanto?"
"Didn't you hear her?" Vanto asked Luna.
"What? Hear-hear who?" Luna asked him.
Vanto began to climb up a hill. Luna followed the former Imperial. Vanto slipped on the rocks and fell to the ground."Vanto!" Luna yelled, worried.
Vanto groaned in pain from the fall. He then saw someone. Vanto knew who it was.
It was Ethan.
Ethan put his foot on Vanto's chest
"If you do not stop following me, I will kill one of them." Ethan threatened. He pushed his foot harder on Vanto's chest."Do you understand?" He asked.
Vanto grabbed Ethan's foot and moved it out of the way. The former Imperial quickly got up and tried to punch Ethan. Ethan dodged the punch and punched Vanto in the face. Vanto tried again but Ethan was too strong."No more warnings." Ethan then kicked him in the face and Vanto was unconscious.
When Eli Vanto opened his eyes, he saw Luna."Vanto, Vanto. Vanto, are you okay?" Luna asked.
"How long was I out?" Vanto asked her.
"I don't know. I'm sorry, you slid on the rocks and-"
"Ethan?" Vanto looked around.
Luna was confused."What?"
"Ethan was here." Vanto said.
"You banged your head, Vanto." Luna said to him.
"No, no. He was here." Vanto got up.
"You have to stop. The rain has washed away the trail. Even if he was here...you've got-Vanto!" She yelled, trying to stop him.
"I'm not letting him do this." Vanto said.
"Not letting him?!" Luna said.
"Not again." Vanto said.
Flashback.
The Empire had gotten involved in his father's shipping company.
Vanto and his father were in the room with some Imperials that wanted to talk about the loss of one of the ships. Thankfully, the Imperials didn't know who Vanto was and that he had been apart of the Empire.
Vanto's father wanted Vanto to lie to the Imperials. But Vanto told them the truth.
"My father was drunk on the job." Vanto said to them while his father looked at him, shocked.
On the Island.
When Luna saw Tucker, she was horrified at what she saw.
There was a rope around the soldier's neck. He was hanging from a tree.
"No." Vanto said. He ran over and he lifted Tucker's legs."You've got to cut him down." Vanto said to Luna. Luna climbed up a tree."Hold on, Tucker. Hold on there." Vanto said.
Luna used what magic she could to use the knife to cut the rope. Vanto then put Tucker to the ground and took off his chest armor plate to do CPR.
"He's not breathing." Vanto said."C'mon, breathe, Tucker. C'mon, breathe. C'mon. C'mon."
Luna started crying while Vanto pounded Tucker's chest.
"C'mon, Tucker, c'mon! C'mon, c'mon, Tucker, c'mon!"
"Vanto-Vanto, stop. He's not..." Luna said, tears coming down her cheeks."Vanto, stop, he's not coming..."
Vanto stopped. He stared at Tucker's body sadly. Luna consoled him."It's okay." She said."It's okay."
Tucker saved me in the cave... Vanto thought. I can't give up.
Vanto pushed her away."No, no." He went back to doing CPR.
"Vanto, Vanto!" Luna tried to stop him."Stop! Stop!" She said, crying. Luna looked away.
"C'mon! C'mon." Vanto said.
They heard Tucker breathe. Luna was shocked and so was Vanto."Just breathe, breathe. Breathe deep, breathe deep. You're okay." Vanto assured Tucker.
"Applejack!" Applebloom said when she saw her sister return. Applebloom hugged Applejack."They brought Tucker back. But he hasn't said anything since he came back."
"Did they find Jeela?" Applejack asked Stuhlinger.
Stuhlinger shook his head.
Nurse Redheart pressed her hoof on Tucker's neck wound. Tucker had all his armor on now."Does that hurt? How's your breathing?" She asked. Tucker said nothing.
"Tucker, you've got talk to us." Said Vanto."We're going to back out and look for Jeela the moment the sun comes up and I could really use your help. Anything that you can tell me about what you remember, where you were going. Did you see or hear...?"
"I didn't see anything, hear anything." Tucker said, his voice raspy."I don't remember anything. Jeela..."
"What?" Said Vanto.
"That's all they wanted." Tucker said.
"They?" Vanto said, surprised.
"All they wanted was Jeela."
"They aren't back yet." Said Cersei Lannister, worried for her brother.
Luna looked at her."I'm sure they just made camp for the night." She assured Cersei."If there's anyone on this Island that your brother's safe with, It's Tarkin."
"Are we lost?" Jaime Lannister asked Tarkin as it was now night.
"No, Jaime, we're not lost." The Grand Moff said.
"Sorry, It's just...I don't see how you can still be following this trail. I think we should go back." Jaime said.
"Don't you feel it?" Tarkin asked him.
"Feel what?" Jaime asked.
"It."
Jaime stopped."Alright, Tarkin. I'm going to follow the strips back."
"Suit yourself." Said Tarkin."Jaime, you need this more than I do." Tarkin tossed Jaime a flashlight. Jaime missed and the flashlight hit something metal on the ground.
"What is that?" Jaime asked.
Tarkin moved some dirt out of the way and saw a piece of metal."Steel." He said.
"Could that be part of the metal thing on the beach?" Jaime asked.
Tarkin banged the metal with his knife.
"What is that?" Jaime questioned.
"That's what we're going to find out." Said Tarkin.
The two then started digging through the mud to see what it was.
