Flashback.
"Father?" A young Beilert Valance asked his father. They were both in the mines. Valance's face had dirt from working all day. His father also had some dirt on him.
"Yes, my boy?" His father said. His father wore a mining helmet, just like Valance himself.
"Grandfather was a miner all his days." Beilert said."And you've been one your whole life. Will I be a miner my whole life too?" He asked. He hoped his father wouldn't be disappointed for him saying that."I...I'm proud to be one, of course, but-"
His father put his hand on Beilert's shoulder as they were walking out of the mines."Our people mined these hills for generations as slaves. But now we mine for profit. As free men and women. Thanks to our liberators. Thanks to the Empire."
When they went outside, they saw Star-Destroyers in the sky."The Valance family has dug, scratched, and clawed through these hills for centuries." His father said to him."But you? You're different. You were born free. You belong in the stars, Beilert."
On the Island.
Valance woke up when he heard something in his tent. He saw that it was still dark outside. He looked around the tent and saw it.
A huge boar going through his stuff.
Valance raised his arm and was about to shoot it with his palm blaster. He missed and a laser went through the tent. The boar quickly ran out, taking the tarp, and Valance got up to follow it. He kept running after the boar when he stopped when he heard something.
He heard whispering. He didn't understand what they were saying until he heard a voice say something.
"Hello, Valance."
The voice sounded like his mentor, Nakano Lash.
In the morning, Valance looked at his tent...or what was left of it.
"Boar took your tarp?" Zuud asked, walking over to him.
"It was dark, but yeah, I'm pretty sure it was a boar." The cyborg said angrily.
"I thought the boar had vacated this area?" Zuud said.
"Well, genius, I think we got some bad info," Valance said.
"What was he doing inside your tent?" Zuud questioned.
"It was staring at me. Then it came at me, so I tried to shoot it, and it ran off into the jungle." Said Valance.
Zuud smiled."With your tarp? Perhaps he wanted to go camping?"
"Are you enjoying yourself?" Valance asked, annoyed the Imperial Officer.
Zuud laughed but nodded."Yes."
"Well, laugh it up. But when I come back and if I find my stuff is gone, I'm coming after you." Valance threatened. Zuud stopped laughing. She stared at him before she walked away."Zuud," Valance said. Zuud stopped and looked back at him."What did you hear? After you ran into the french woman. You said you heard something in the jungle."
Zuud was surprised by his question."I was injured and I was exhausted. My mind was playing tricks." She said.
"What did you hear?" Valance questioned.
Zuud was silent for a moment."I thought I heard whispering."
"What was it saying?" Valance asked.
"Why? Did you hear something?" Zuud asked.
"Forget it." Valance said quickly."I didn't hear anything."
Flashback.
After what happened on Mimban, Valance had returned to his home planet, Chorin, he saw the village where he grew up. He saw that most of the buildings had been destroyed.
"No...no..." He said sadly.
He looked at the graves. The graves of the miners of the village."I'm sorry, father." Valance said, looking at his father's grave.
Valance noticed other people in the village near a fire. One villager walked over to him and he knew who it was.
"Beilert?" Said Yuralla Vega.
"Yura? Valance said.
"Beilert! You came back-" Yura stopped talking when she saw Valance's metal face."What did they do to you?" She asked.
Valance ignored the question."What happened?" He asked her.
"The Empire took everything from the mines. From our home. And when there was nothing left to take...they just...left." She said."Chorin was defenseless. We were defenseless. Without their protection, the raiders came. We fought back. We tried. But..." Yura cried."Your father, Valance...he died..."
Beilert nodded."I know. Who killed him?"
"He was killed by a old human man with blue eyes and white hair. The old man also had an orange vest. I think the old man's name was Jova." Yura said."There was also a raider who was a Tarsunt. I think he may have been the leader of the raiders."
Valance stood there for a moment before he grabbed an E-11 blaster that one of the villagers had."I'm going to find who did this. And make them pay. Stay here. Stay warm. Stay safe." Valance then started walking away from the village.
"Don't leave us...please...Beilert..." Yura begged. But Valance kept walking.
On the Island.
In the caves, Jeela walked over to Tucker, who was making a shovel to dig a grave for Ethan."Hey." She said.
Tucker looked at her."Hi. How are you feeling?"
"Very pregnant." She said."I-I had some dreams last night. Actually, more like memories. You were in them."
"Oh." Was all that Tucker said.
"I thought we could go for a walk."
"Sorry." Tucker said."I have to...do something."
She nodded."Sure."
"I'll see you later." Tucker left.
Valance walked through the jungle, trying to find the boar. He then noticed something on the ground. He went over to it and saw that it was the tarp.
"Hello, Valance."
He heard the voice of his mentor again.
"A boar did all of this?" Princess Luna asked Valance when he returned to his tent. She was looking at what was left of his tent.
"Last night. He wrecked my tent. I tried finding him this morning but I couldn't find him." Valance sighed."I'm gonna find that karkin' boar."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm going to get even."
"You would kill an animal?" Luna said, disgusted.
"What, you don't hunt in ponyland?" The cyborg asked."Now, leave me alone." He then saw Applejack walk over to him.
"I heard that you're going out into the jungle. While you're out there, can you try to find Fiddlesticks?" Applejack asked Valance, worried for her cousin. She had been gone for a few days and Applejack and the others tried to find them but found no trace.
Applejack had also been working on that raft, which had surprisingly gone well. Valance was able to get a spot on the raft, along with that pony named Doctor Whooves or whatever his name was.
"Sure." He said, but he doubted he would find her.
Tucker and Stuhlinger carried the body of Ethan so they could bury him.
"Look, I appreciate the help but you don't have to do this," Tucker said.
"If that guy comes back as a zombie, your gonna need my help." Stuhlinger joked. Mostly. He had a pretty good experience with killing the undead.
Tucker didn't say anything as he dug a grave.
"Are you alright?" Stuhlinger asked the soldier. Tucker said nothing.
Later, Stuhlinger went to Zuud."Hey, Zuud, can I ask you a question?"
The Imperial nodded."Of course."
"Well, I heard you were a military officer. Maybe you could help Tucker."
Zuud raised an eyebrow."What wrong with Tucker?"
"I think he has post...post, uh..."
"Post-traumatic stress disorder?"
Stuhlinger nodded."Yeah. I mean, he killed a guy. He shot him in the chest 4 times. Maybe you should talk to him."
As the sun was setting, Valance was following some footprints, trying to find the boar. He also brought some of his stuff.
"It's a footprint." Said Princess Luna, who had been following him. Valance looked at her."You can't track this boar without my help. If I help you, I can get what I want from your stash whenever I want." She said.
Valance stared at her and wondered if it was worth it. That boar could bother me again."Alright. You got a deal."
When it became night, Luna and Valance decided to camp. They made a fire.
"You know," Valance started."You know some stuff about my past but I don't know much about yours." Valance said."It seems only fair that I only know some of yours."
"How about this. We both tell each other parts of our past. Deal?"
The cyborg nodded."Deal."
"I grew in Equestria with my sister, Celestia. She rules the land." Luna said.
"Are you jealous of her?" Valance asked, smiling.
Luna then seemed uncomfortable."I was once...where did you grow up?"
"I grew up on a world called Chorin. My family has been slaves since the days of the Old Republic. The Empire freed them. Your turn."
"I got my cutie mark when I raised the moon," Luna said. She explained to him her magic and what a cutie mark was to him. He understood...mostly.
"I saw Vader." He said.
"Who?" Luna asked, confused.
"Darth Vader. He's the supreme commander of Imperial forces. Vader...the first time I saw him was on Mimban, a planet I fought on for the Empire." Valance told her."Me and my men were about to be killed when Vader saved us."
"You said you saw him for the first time? When did you see him again?" Luna questioned.
"I saw him when I was hired to kill him."
"Why would you want to kill the man who saved you?" Luna asked.
"Vader's a machine just like me." Valance said."I wanted to kill him because he and the Empire left my people defenseless. They failed to protect Chorin." He said, closing his eyes."But I failed to protect Chorin as well."
There was a long moment of silence.
"I failed to not to become Nightmare Moon." Luna said.
Valance looked at her."Who's Nightmare Moon?"
"I was Nightmare Moon. I was jealous of my sister for being more popular than me so I...I tried to kill her. But thanks to my sister apprentice, and her friends, they saved me." She smiled a little.
"Well, not everyone can have a good life," Valance said angrily. He then laid down. Luna looked at him and wanted to ask how he had become a machine. She thought against it since she didn't want to make him angry.
In the morning, when they woke up, they saw that their camp was a mess."There are hoof marks everywhere." Luna noted, looking at the marks.
"That boar ate all our stuff!" Valance said angrily.
"No, it ate your stuff. My stuff's fine." Luna said.
The two then heard rustling in the bushes. Valance pointed his palm blaster, only to see it was Tarkin.
"Good morning." He said to them. He looked at the area."What happened to your campsite?"
"A boar ate all my stuff." Valance said, lowering his arm.
"What are you doing all the way out here?" Luna asked him.
"Looking for some salvage from the crash," Tarkin said.
"Did you find anything useful?"
Tarkin shook his head."No. I'm still trying. I picked up your path about a mile back. I thought I should see you. What are you doing out here?"
"Trying to find a boar. It's got something against me." Valance said.
Luna rolled her eyes."It's a boar, Valance."
"After the Clone Wars, my son died." Tarkin suddenly said. Luna and Valance looked at him, surprised."He died in the Atoan system by the rebels. After I learned of his death, I was so angry. I barely talked to my wife. Of course, I never truly loved her but still..." Tarkin said, his face plain.
Luna could tell that he missed his son."I'm still angry that those rebels killed him." Tarkin said."I just...I just can't let go of my son..."
The princess felt bad for him."It's alright, Tarkin." She said comfortingly."I know it's hard to let go..." Luna remembered when she had to move on from Nightmare Moon. Starlight Glimmer also needed to move on from her past.
Tarkin started to leave, not wanting to listen to her."Good luck with your hunt." He said.
Flashback.
On the planet Nar Kaaga, Valance was in bar. He took a sip of his ale when he noticed the male human next to him finish his drink."Damn..." He heard the old man mutter when he looked in his wallet. Valance noticed there was no money in his wallet.
The old human had grey hair and brown eyes. He looked like he was from Wild Space."I'll pay for his drink." Valance told the bartender.
"Thank you, good man." The human smiled."What's your name?"
"Valance."
"What brings you to Nar Kaaga?"
"Business." Valance said."What's your job?"
"I owned a shipping company."
"Owned?"
The man nodded."Yeah. I'm suffering. Your suffering. Everybody in this damn galaxy is suffering. Some people are just meant to suffer. That's why the Empire will never win against those rebels."
I guess hasn't heard about Hoth. Valance thought. He had heard that the rebels were now scattered because of the Empire's attack.
"I have a son." The old man."He's not like me. He does what's in his heart. He's a good man, maybe a great one. And right now, he thinks that I hate him. He thinks I feel betrayed by him. But what I really feel is gratitude, and pride because of what he did to me. What he did for me. It took more courage than I have." He said sadly."I can contact him on my holocomm...I could call my son. I could tell him about all this. I could tell him that I love him. One simple phone call and I could fix everything."
"Why don't you?" Valance asked.
"Because I am weak." He said sadly.
Valance stared at the man for a moment before he finished his drink. He then left the man. Valance had business to attend to. He needed to talk to Syphacc.
On the Island.
Tucker looked at his energy sword."Where did you get that?" Zuud asked, walking over to him.
"It's a long story." Tucker said."What do you want?"
"You killed a man."
Tucker looked at her."A man who killed one of us, who kidnapped Jeela, who strung me up and left me for dead. He deserved to die. I'd do it again in a minute. I don't feel anything."
Zuud was silent for a moment as she remembered something."I am Imperial Officer. One day, we had to execute a traitor who was giving information to the rebels. I ordered the firing squad to kill the man when we found him."
"And you regret doing that?" Tucker guessed.
"No...I don't..."
"Do you know what that is?" Luna asked, pointing at a wallow. They were still trying to find the boar.
"It's a wallow. He's around her somewhere." Valance looked around. He then heard the sound of boar. He ran to find a baby boar.
"Oh! He's so cute!" Luna smiled.
Valance picked up the baby boar."The bigger boar's gotta be around here. Here piggy, piggy, piggy!"
Luna's eyes widened."Put it down!" She demanded. Valance continued to do this."I said STOP!" She yelled, using her royal canterlot voice. Her loud voice caused Valance to drop the baby boar, who quickly ran away.
"Woah..." He said, shocked by how loud her voice was.
Luna walked away from him, disgusted.
Valance got up. He was walking back to the beach, giving up when he then saw the boar. The boar was with it's children.
The Bounty Hunter smiled and raised his arm, his palm blaster getting ready to fire. But Valance then realized something. The boar was a father and was taking care of his son.
Valance thought of his own father.
The cyborg lowered his arm and noticed Luna looking at him."It's just boar." He said.
Jeela watched Applejack, Applebloom, and Whooves, build the raft.
Tucker went over to Jeela."Hey." He said.
Jeela smiled."Hey."
"Do you want to walk with me?" Tucker asked.
She nodded."Sure."
Valance was walking through the jungle when he saw Vanto using an axe to cut some wood for a fire.
"What are you doing out here?" Vanto asked.
"Just walking. Thinking about some things." Valance said, thinking about how he had heard Nakano Lash's voice.
"I heard about that boar taking your tent." Vanto smiled."I guess you're just meant to suffer. That's why the Empire will never win against those rebels."
Valance looked at him, surprised."What'd you just say?"
"I said "That's why the Empire will never win against those rebels"."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Valance asked.
"It's just something my father used to say." Vanto continued to cut the log."He used to own a shipping company."
"Your father..." Valance whispered. He then left, realizing who the man in the bar on Nar Kaaga had been.
