Chapter 3
Meeting The Family
When I woke up I could hear what sounded like muffled shouting, I think it was coming from downstairs. I sat up on my bed making the red blanket pool around my waist, as I glanced out the window and noticed it was early in the morning with the sun just barely weaving through the trees.
I pushed the blanket off letting the cool air hit my warm skin, making me shudder a bit as I swung my legs over the side of the bed, letting my feet touch the half carpeted ground.
Once I was fully standing I tiptoed to the door as quietly as I could, I pressed my ear against the door to see if I would be able to hear what was being said, I couldn't. So I slowly pulled the door open sighing when I didn't hear a creak and proceeded to carefully creep down the hall.
When I made it to the top of the stairs I paused for I could hear what was being said.
" Have you completely lost your mind?! Jasper, you can't Just take any child you want. How do you even know if he likes you or not? He's probably terrified of you!" Exclaimed a woman, she sounded young.
" He was living in a cardboard box in a dead-end alleyway! I couldn't just leave him there Rosalie!" Jasper shouted back.
" I'm sure that's not what she meant Jasper, she's just saying that you should have taken him to an orphanage that was in the area instead of bringing him here." A man said, he sounded like he was in his thirties or forty's.
" When I asked him why he wasn't already in an orphanage, he said it was because both the kids and adults called him a demon child and kicked him out onto the streets," Jasper said, fuming.
I heard a round of gasps after he said that, and then it went silent. I figured now was as good as any to go downstairs.
I made my way down the steps still trying to avoid any creaking floorboards, when I reached the bottom I saw seven people standing or sitting in the living room. When I began walking forward in Jasper's direction all heads turned towards me.
All watched silently as I quietly made my way towards Jasper who was standing against the wall in the far corner of the room looking at me wide-eyed like he wasn't expecting to see me. Once I walked past everyone and was standing in front of Jasper I held my arms up, letting him know I wanted him to pick me up.
Once comfortably in his arms, I laid my head on his shoulder closing my eyes, I wasn't trying to go back to sleep or anything, I just wanted to show the lady who spoke earlier, as well as everyone that I wasn't scared of Jasper, it was quite the opposite. I felt more comfortable and safe in Jasper's arms than I've ever felt I think in my entire life.
I suddenly heard a man, not far from Jasper, chuckling, I as well as everyone looked at the man who was only staring at me when he said,
" Rosalie, I don't think you need to worry about whether he's scared or not." To which the lady, I guess Rosalie, glared at the man who continued to smirk while glancing between Jasper and I.
" Is this your family?" I ask in my normal quiet voice.
Everyone's attention was immediately on me again. I just started back blankly at them completely unfazed by their stares.
" Yes, this is my family, you guys want to introduce yourself's?" Jasper asked glancing at everyone, to which there was a round of nods and mumbles of 'yes'.
A tall man wearing a long white lab-looking coat stepped forwards. " Hello, my name is Carlisle Cullen." He said, his hair was a honey blonde with hints of brown, and his eyes were a dark caramel color.
Next, a woman with light brown hair that hung down her back stepped up beside Carlisle and wrapped an arm around him smiling at me, she was a foot shorter than him. " Hi, I'm Esme Cullen." Her eyes were the same caramel color but lighter.
The next person was the man who chuckled earlier, he had short dark brown hair with hints of red and was a few inches taller than Carlisle. " Hello, my name is Edward Cullen. " He said, smiling warmly making his honey-colored eyes shine in the light.
Next, a bear-like man stepped forwards with a goofy smile on his face, he looked to be a bit taller than Edward and had short dark brown hair, almost black, with yellow eyes." Hey little man! My name's Emmett Cullen." He said pointing at himself before he pointed his thumb behind himself. " Her name is Rosalie Hale. I now show looks terrifying, but she's nice once you get to know her. "
Said girl scoffed before storming off, as she left I saw that she had long light golden hair with eyes the same shade as Emmett's. From what I could see before she left, it looked like she might be a foot and a half shorter than Emmett.
Suddenly out of nowhere a girl with a chocolate brown pixie haircut hopped beside Jasper looking at me with a huge smile. " Hi! My name is Alice Cullen." She said holding her hand out for me to shake. She was a couple of inches shorter than Jasper, who was looking at Alice with a small grin. Her eyes were caramel-colored like Carlisle's and Esme's.
I muttered a quiet 'Hello' before taking her hand making her smile widen.
" So we told you our names, what's yours?" Asked Carlisle.
I looked at him for a second before tilting my head to the side, my name. What was my name? I never needed to use it or introduce myself to anyone before, so I just kind of forgot it, to be honest after a while I forgot I ever had one.
" I don't know, I haven't needed to use my name in such a long time that it just slipped my mind," I said innocently though my face morphed into one of confusion when some of them gasped and looked at me with sadness, while the others looked ready to kill. I even felt Jasper tighten his grip around my waist while releasing a growl.
" If not having a name bothers you that much you can name me, call me whatever you like. " I said completely missing the point to their distress.
Edward released a sigh running a hand through his hair as he closed his eyes, the others had a similar reaction.
" That's not the problem sweetheart. " Esme said giving me a forced smile.
" Is sweetheart my name now? " I asked turning my head to look at Jasper who in turn looked at me.
" No, it's just a nickname." Said Jasper as he looked at Alice.
" Hey it's breakfast time, are you hungry? Esme is a master at cooking. " Jasper said making Edward and Emmett smirk.
I nodded my head yes and was then being carried and then set on a chair in the kitchen as Esme began taking out all kinds of ingredients before she paused and turned to me.
" What would you like? I have enough ingredients to make almost anything. " She said smiling at me warmly.
" I've heard of a type of food called pancakes, can you make that?" I asked tilting my head.
For a split second, I saw a saddened look flash across her face, though it was gone as fast as it appeared and was replaced with a smile.
" Of course sweetheart, I'll get you a cup of milk while you wait." She said as she resumed getting out the necessary ingredients while turning the oven on, then quickly got me some milk before getting back to cooking.
Twenty minutes later I was sitting in front of a stack of pancakes drenched in maple syrup, a fresh tall glass of milk next to the plate. I said a quick 'thank you' before digging in, I almost moaned at the mouthwatering flavors that immediately exploded in my mouth. I barely chewed as I shoved fork full after fork full of the succulent sweet food that is pancakes into my mouth.
I finished eating the appetizing breakfast and washed it all down with a glass of cold milk. I released a sigh as I never had my stomach stuffed full this much for this long, it was a comfortable feeling that I enjoyed very much.
As I sat there enjoying the afterglow of the delicious food, I didn't notice Esme left the kitchen, nor did I notice Jasper asking Alice something before she started practically skipping towards me with an ear-to-ear grin on her face.
" Hey, want to go shopping with me?" Alice asked leaning against the counter next to me.
I stared at her for a few seconds, I've never been shopping before and going with someone who seems as energetic as Alice could be quite interesting, not to mention I'll be able to get a look around town.
So with that thought, I looked at her and mumbled a quiet 'yes'
