The next day, Eda dropped Luz off at school. She walked into the classroom and found Boscha and Willow.
"So, where's Amity?" Luz asked.
"She said she had to do something before class." Boscha said.
They heard the door open and saw Skara. Boscha got up and walked up to her.
"Do you have any idea what Luz and I went through trying to find you?" Boscha asked, "Do you have any idea what it's like to think that you could be dead!?"
"I know that you are mad at me for just disappearing without saying anything, but I found something that Luz needs to hear."
Before Skara could pull out the folder, Amity came in.
"Well, I have an announcement." Amity said, "We have another member of the Brood."
Amity stepped aside and Emira came in, wearing a Shadow Track uniform. What Skara was going to say seemed to leave everyone's thought as Emira walked in.
"So, I see she's doing good." Luz said.
"Yeah, it was... crazy for a minute." Amity said, "But I'm glad she's alive."
Luz looked upset. Everything involving family the past few days reminded her that her mom was dead. Don't get her wrong, she's glad she could find Lucia and Becky, but she would give anything to be able to talk to her mom one last time. Everyone sat down and Miss Night came in.
"Well, I see we have a new student. We'll get into catching you up in a second, I have big news." Miss Night started to write on the board, "This year, the Blood Moon is occurring."
Everyone looked confused.
"Uh, what's a Blood Moon?" Boscha asked.
"I'm glad you asked." Miss Night said, "The Blood Moon is when a full moon turns completely red, almost as if it's covered in blood. It acts almost like a New Moon, except you become an unstoppable beast, temporarily making you immune to all weaknesses. A stake to the heart, you can pull it out. Lit on fire, you just walk through the flames. It is seen as a massive holiday for Vampires, known as Blood-Fest, where we celebrate the birth of the first vampire, Ambrose Caith, who was said to be born during the moon, giving him his vampiric powers. There's even a legend that claims you can communicate with the dead for the night, though, no one has done it in several generations, so there is no telling if it's true."
Luz looked up from her desk. Communicate with the dead? She can speak with her mom?
"Now, I have to say, it takes a lot of power in order to avoid becoming Feral during the Blood Moon, even for vampires that are over a millennium old." Miss Night said, "It takes a strong will in order to avoid losing control. We have one New Moon before the Blood Moon, try and have some fun then, because you most likely won't be able to control yourselves during the Blood Moon."
Luz stopped listening, she was planning how to communicate with the dead.
