A loud hiss filled the air and the Ghoul closest to Eda was tackled. Eda looked at what did that and saw Luz, sinking her fangs into the Ghoul's neck. She drained it and tossed the corpse to the ground. Black blood ran down her chin and stood up. Luz turned her head so fast that Eda swore she heard a snap. Luz growled at the Ghouls.
"Get away from her!" Luz screamed.
Luz ran at the Ghouls and started to attack them. She used her strength to punch one into the metal fence. Luz ran at it and started to punch it several times in the stomach before sending a hard punch to the chin of the Ghoul. It sent the Ghoul into the air for a couple seconds, before Luz grabbed its legs and forced it down onto the metal spikes that adore the top of the fence. Luz, still holding its legs, pulled, ripping the legs from its torso. Luz turned around and grabbed another Ghoul by the neck. Luz threw it at the other Ghouls and charged at them. Luz summoned shadows to her arms and formed her Shadow Claws. Luz pounced on one and started to claw at it. Eda watched her adopted daughter attack, without fear or care. To Luz, if it moved it would die, if it wanted to hurt Eda it had to get to get through her. Eda used the distraction Luz gave her to pick up her crossbow and fire at one of the Ghouls. Luz sunk her fangs into another Ghoul, draining its blood before snapping its neck for an extra measure. Another Ghoul and Luz got into a test of strength. Luz had to admit, these things were strong, they could rival a vampire, the strongest creature on the Isles. Luz noticed Eda reloading her crossbow.
"Mom! Take the shot!"
Eda aimed without hesitation, until she realized that she had a high chance of hitting Luz.
"Luz, are you crazy?! I could hit you with this on accident!" Eda screamed.
"You won't!" Luz said.
"How do you know that!?"
"Because I know you would never hurt me!" Luz said, "I trust you."
Eda's hands started to shake and she closed her eyes. She pulled the trigger and sent the stake towards them. Time froze for a second until... the stake hit the Ghoul in the head. The body dropped and Luz ran over to Eda. She picked Eda up and sprinted back towards the Owl House. Luz managed to get Eda and herself back inside just as the rain started coming down. Lucia looked up from her magazine.
"So, how was your outing?" Lucia asked, eating a few chips.
Eda looked at Luz.
"I told you to stay here." Eda said, "What did you think you were doing?"
"I was saving you." Luz said.
"I didn't ask for that, I had it under control." Eda said, getting annoyed.
"No, you didn't! You were about to die!" Luz said.
"I didn't need you risking your life to help me!"
"I had to!"
"Why?! What was so important that you needed to risk your life for me?!"
"I learned that Belos told Alaric to turn me!" Luz said, stunning Eda.
"W-w-what?" Eda asked.
"Alaric, Belos, and the hunters were working together." Luz said.
