Now, we might be at a chapter involving the New Moon, but Luz isn't the main focus in this chapter.

Luz got ready to leave. She has a place for her Brood to be during the New Moon.

"Hey, stay safe kid." Eda said.

"Don't I always?" Luz asked.

"Do you want a real answer?" Lucia asked.

Luz thought about that question for a second before answering.

"No."

"Listen, I know how dangerous vampires get during the New Moon, I just want to make sure you're ready." Eda said.

"I have to." Luz said, "I'll never get immunity to the feral mood the New Moon gives me if I spend each New Moon locked in a coffin. I need to do this."

Eda crouched down and looked at Luz in the eyes while putting her hands on her shoulders.

"Just... be safe, I can't lose you. Not like everyone else in my life." Eda said.

"You won't, don't worry, mom." Luz said.

Eda hugged Luz as if it was the last time she would see her. Luz broke away from the hug and left the house. The sun could barely be seen, the New Moon effects would take over soon and she had to meet the Brood before that. She took one more look at the Owl House, before sprinting and disappearing into the woods. Eda and Lucia looked as Luz ran away from the house.

"I always get nervous when I see her leave the house." Eda said.

"Wish we had something to do to keep our minds off her."

The two closed the door, unaware of what was coming. They sat on the couch just thinking about how many things could go wrong with Luz. Lucia broke the silence with a question that's been holding onto for three days.

"So... what was that whole... thing the other day?" Lucia asked.

Eda looked down.

"That... long story short... I'm cursed." Eda said, "There's... a lot to it. Pretty much, the short version is that I have to drink an elixir every so often or else I turn into... that thing."

"You know, it could be worse." Lucia said.

"How?"

"You could have to eat rotten flesh to survive." Lucia said.

Eda let out a small chuckle before putting an arm around Lucia's shoulders.

"You're a good kid." Eda said, "I'm glad Luz will have you when I'm... gone."

"Gone?"

"Look at me Kid, how old do you think I am?"

"Uh... 69?"

"firstly, nice." Eda said, "But no, I'm not even 50 yet. This curse ages me faster than everyone else... I won't be here much longer."

The two sat in silence again... before the door was knocked down. Eda got up and made a spell circle but stopped halfway through when she saw who it was.

"M-m-mom?"

Eda couldn't believe it, her mom was standing in her living room, as a Ghoul. Eda was horrified, her mind had a thousand thoughts every second. She wasn't even focusing until Lucia tackled her out of the way of Gwendolyn's attack. Lucia picked Eda up and the two ran upstairs.

"King! Get to my room, now!" Eda said.

They all got to Eda's room and pushed a dresser in front of the door.

"Alright, that should stop her." Eda said.

Ghouls don't have magic. Since her parents are already died, and they've been dead for around twenty or so years, Gwen's Bile Sac has been inactive for a long time. A bile sac from a corpse can last a year, using the remaining magic to stay active, if need be, this is very useful for when witches need a heart transplant.

"Mom, who is that?" Lucia asked.

"Your grandmother." Eda said, "Who is supposed to be in a graveyard right now."

They heard pounding on the door.

"W-w-we should be safe."

They heard glass shatter and turned around to see Eda's father. Eda was very nervous with this, her relationship with her dad was very rocky ever since she... accidentally clawed out his eye. Eda couldn't fight her dad, even if he was a Ghoul. They started backing away when Gwen finally knocked the door and dresser down. Lucia looked around when she found a bat.

"Mom, move!"

She ran past Eda and hit Gwen with the bat. She was knocked back against the wall.

"Huh, I guess I'm a lot stronger than I thought." Lucia said, raising her bat and charging at Dell.

Lucia swung her bat at his stomach, making him hunch over. She swung her bat upwards and hit him in the chin. The two Ghouls held their heads and started making weird noises. They jumped out the window and ran off.

'Belos must be calling them back.' Eda thought, that was the only explanation.

Lucia dropped the bat and sat down.

"My adrenaline is wearing off." Lucia said.

"Same." Eda said, "Let's... let's get some sleep."
