Chapter 2
Best Fronds
In the basement of the planters Jason was sleeping. He was twisting and turning as he trembled. He was having some kind of nightmare of a sort. He then screamed waking up as seconds later he started laughing.
Jason: Guys, you won't believe this. I had a dream where we all were sucked into another world filled with frog people and—
He turns around seeing Anne and the Planters staring at him.
Jason: And it wasn't a dream.
Anne: Yeah that's what I thought.
Sprig then hops to them.
Sprig: Hey guys, sleep well.
Hop Pop then pushes him back.
HP: Careful boy, they can be hungry!
Polly then hopped in front of them in her bucket, holding a roller.
Polly: For your guts!
Jason: One, I don't like frog legs.
Anne: Two, relax. I dont something that clearly never bathes.
Flies were flying around Hop Pop as he caught one with his tongue.
HP: Fair point.
Sprig: See, tell you that they're harmless.
Polly: What about the one with the sword?
Jason then lifted up the Monado.
Jason: To be honest I don't even know how to use this.
He accidentally activates the beam, making him drop it.
Sprig: See harmless.
HP: For now.
Hop Pop then went up the stairs with Polly who came out her bucket.
Polly: Just give me an excuse to use old Dorris here.
She threatened them with the rolling pin before going upstairs.
Anne: I think the little one wants to kill us.
Jason: Eh, I like her. She got mocho.
Sprig: Yup. So, you must be so excited to be trapped in another world. Very Jealous.
He then leans up to them before following, making Jason snicker.
Anne: It's not all that. I miss my home, my stuff, and especially…
She grabs a picture with the girls and the guys.
Anne: ...Our friends.
Jason frowned before nudging her.
Jason: Hey I bet they're doing just fine. Rev and Sasha are probably trying something to find us and Tanner and Marcy are smart, those two will know how to stick together.
Anne smiles at him before hugging.
Anne: Thank you.
Jason: No prob.
Sprig: Well, then, why don't I be your friend in the meantime?
Anne: You?
Sprig: Me!
Sprig hops on one foot and points to himself as Anne looks conflicted.
Anne: You.
Jason: It can't be that bad, he seems like fun.
Anne: I don't know...
Sprig: Come on. It'll be fun! What did you do together?
Anne: Everything. Marathon dumb TV shows, drink boba till we vomited, hung out at the beach.
Jason: Ride our bikes through the town, play games at the arcade, dare each other to do absolutely ridiculous things that sometimes almost get us hurt, especially me.
Sprig: Oh, we've got a lake and we can do stupid things. Would going there with me make you feel less homesick?
Anne: Hmm.
She looks at the picture before back at Sprig who was pumped.
Sprig: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
She looked at the picture again before looking at him again, now doing a pose.
Sprig: It's gon' be great.
They chuckled a little.
Jason: I like this guy.
Anne: I like your moxie, frog child. Let's do it!
Sprig: Ok I'll be upstairs when you're ready.
Sprig headed upstairs as the two humans looked through their backpacks.
Anne: I hoped we packed our swimsuits.
Jason was already in his as Anne was looking for hers.
Anne: How did you change so fast?!
Jason: Anne, you should know this. I literally never leave home without it.
Anne rolls her eyes as she takes out her swimsuit.
Anne: Ok, you know the drill. Upstairs.
Jason: What?! I saw you change before!
Anne: Yeah, and it's the last time since you pulled that prank on me.
Jason shrugged.
Jason: Hey you seemed physically and mentally hot.
Anne pointed upstairs as Jason groaned.
Jason: Finnnnnee.
Jason goes upstairs as Anne shakes her head.
Anne: Dump, cute idiot.
Anne gets dressed into her swimsuit and comes upstairs.
Sprig puts on his goggles.
Sprig: Are you ready to go?
Anne pumps her fist.
Anne: Yeah-ah!
Jason equips the Monado.
Jason: Let's go then!
Anne: You're really going to bring the big sword.
Jason: I feel conflicted to do so.
Anne shrugs as they all go to the door.
Together: Hey, hey, hey!
Hop Pop then cuts them off from leaving.
HP: And where do you three think you're going?
Sprig: We're going to the lake.
He scratched his swim trunks and then immediately regretted it as it snapped back onto him.
Anne: Why? You want in? You wanna come?
Jason: Don't worry, we can always have one more person. We can also have the little dude with us.
HP: Absolutely not! Look, Anne, Jason. You're a new, unsettling, strange, bizarre, gangly, horrifying—
Anne: Thanks. I got it.
Jason: I think he forgot a few.
Hop Pop then looks through the blinds as everyone else outside were going through their day.
HP: Point is, the frogs in this town can be pretty small-minded.
Frog: Oh, hey, Hopediah.
HP: And paranoid.
Jason then leaned over to Anne and Sprig.
Jason: I only see one paranoid one here.
Hop Pop then walked back to them.
HP: And we also got this one with the Monado.
Jason: Hey! I rightfully earned this sword.
Anne: You didn't earn it, you just pulled it out.
Jason put a finger to Anne's lips.
Jason: Let me have my moment Anne.
HP: That's not an ordinary sword, boy. That is the legendary Monado that only the chosen protector can get.
Jason had stars in his eyes.
Jason: I'm a chosen protector! We got to try this out.
He was about to leave when Hop Pop stopped him.
HP: Hold it right there. We just need to give 'em time to get used to ya. I think it's best you stay put.
He then locked the door and put the key in his pocket.
Anne: But--
HP: No buts! Now I'm gonna go into my study to get a little reading done.
He then walks to his study as the others groan.
Sprig: Uh, Hop Pop.
HP: Don't do anything stupid!
He then slams the door shut.
Jason: Aww Man.
Anne: Ugh! Adults are all the same. Curfews. Rules. Old.
Jason then sat onto the couch.
Jason: Eh, not all adults are like that. They can be pretty chill.
Anne: That's because most of them liked you.
Jason Toućh
Sprig: Yeah, looks like we're stuck here. Ooh! I know what'll be fun. Let's try some of Hop Pop's pain peppers.
Sprig then brings up a barrel and opens the lid. It was full of bubbly peppers that left off a bit of smoke.
Sprig: So hot they make you wish you were dead.
Sprig takes a pepper and gives it a lick. A second later he's blowing fire out of his mouth. He ran around the house, screaming in pain, he even tried to use a potted plant trying to nullify the
Sprig tried to drink water from the faucet, but it also didn't work. He then plops onto the ground.
Sprig: Some just kill me please!
He then lays there like he was dead before Jason runs over with some milk and makes him drink it.
Jason: LIVE FROG BOY LIVE!!!
Sprig then rises up.
Sprig: Whoa, thanks Jason.
Jason: No problem, no spice can be beaten by milk.
Sprig then holds up a pepper.
Sprig: Your turn!
Jason: I'm in!
Anne: No, thanks. I'd rather go to the lake.
The boys were about to eat the peppers before turning to Anne.
Sprig: Ahh-- What? But Hop Pop said, uh--
Anne: Sprig, you wanna know the best thing about friendship?
Jason: Um, having someone that always has your back?
Anne: That and when you have your friend by your side, anything is possible. Whatever you want, a real friend will help you get it. And you know what I want?
Sprig: The lake!
Anne: Yup. Now let's go rob an old man!
Sprig: Ew.
Jason: Did you have to word it like that?
Anne: Yeah, that didn't sound as cool as I wanted it to.
They then peaked their heads into Hop Pop's study, seeing the key in his pocket.
Anne: Any ideas?
Jason: I got one! First, I would keep HP distracted by asking him some random questions about this world. Then, Sprig would climb up to the ceiling just in case Hop Pop showed me a book about my question. If that doesn't happen then Anne would sneak into the room, covered in a black, skin tight-
As Jason starts to imagine this he sees Anne in a black, skin tight suit. Before drooling a little.
Anne then shook him out of his fantasy.
Anne: Jason, you good?
Jason: Yup I'm fantastic!
Anne shushed him before they all started to hear snoring.
Anne: No way.
They walk over to Hop Pop seeing snoring with his eyes wide open. Anne waves her arm in front of Hop Pop.
Anne: This might be the creepiest thing I've ever seen.
Jason: To you.
He then takes a picture of him.
Sprig: Happens all the time. He makes a great scarecrow.
Anne then takes the key before they quietly exit the room. Anne then takes a sniff of the key.
Anne: Know what this smells like?
Jason takes the key and sniffs it.
Jason: A key.
Sprig then takes the key from before sniffing it also.
Sprig: A key that's been in an old man's pocket?
Anne: Freedom!
Sprig/Jason: That was my next guess!
The three then left the house before heading to the lake.
Anne: This is great. Three pals beatin' the odds to have some fun. Here. Smile!
She brings in Spring and Jason for a picture. Sprig was a little dazed as Jason gave out a thumbs up.
Anne: Whoa. Hey, that turned out great.
They all look at the picture seeing Anne and Jason smiling as Sprig seems like he was screaming. Anne looks closer seeing that Jason's eye shimmered red for a second before leaving. She shakes her head deciding to ignore it.
Sprig: I don't know what's crazier, that you just stole my soul in a tiny box, or that we look so incredible.
Jason: And I'm looking good like always.
Anne then playfully shoves him.
Anne: Keep saying that and your ego is going to be enormous.
Sprig: I gotta say, this friend's business is amazing!
Anne: Didn't you have friends before we showed up?
Sprig: Uh...
Flashback
Frog kids were playing with their toys when Sprig came out of a bush.
Sprig: Guys, guys, guys, guys, guys! Check this out!
Sprig brings out a giant snake skeleton and pretends like it is eating him as the frog kids scream in horror.
Sprig: Aaah! Help! It's eating me alive!
Sprig: Ha-ha! I'm just kidding, guys. Aaah! Aaah!
He continues pretending, going deeper in as the kids continue to scream.
End Flashback
Sprig: Kids around here don't really get me.
Jason: Hey, I was the same as you. A person that is always looking for danger.
Anne: And getting hurt after it.
Jason: I lived, didn't I?
Anne playfully punched Sprig in the arm.
Anne: Well, hey, they are missin' out. Come on.
Sprig: So, is punching part of friendship?
Anne: Absolutely.
They then passed through some leaves and arrived at the lake.
Sprig: We made it.
Anne: Whoa. It's beautiful.
Jason: So majestic!
Anne: You ready, dude?
Jason: Let's get wet!
They all ran to the lake cheering before that was immediately drained when they saw a sign saying "Dont Swim".
Sprig: Oh. This was not here last week.
Jason: Ugh, well that's a bummer. Looks like we won't be able to swim.
Anne looks at the lake seeing that everything looked fine.
Anne: Huh. Hmm. I know exactly what's going on here. Some jerk just wants this beautiful lake all to themselves. Well, forget that.
Anne walks to the lake while Jason and Sprig are hesitant.
Sprig: Ah, I don't know, Anne. Whoever wrote this wrote it in a hurry, like they were scared to be here.
Jason: Yeah, I don't know if that's paint or blood, but I already know that this seems dangerous.
Anne: Or maybe they just had bad handwriting. Come on. Don't be a buzzkiller.
She dipped her toe in, as she shivered a little.
Anne: Ooh, that's nice.
Sprig then rapped his touge around Anne's arm, stopping her from going any further in the lake.
Anne: Hey, what are you doing?
Sprig: Something's not right here. Let's just go back.
Anne: Ugh, I thought you were trying to be my friend. Jason, help me out here.
Jason thought for a second before shaking his head.
Jason: He's right, I dont got a good feeling about this place.
Anne then looked at him in surprise.
Anne: Jason! You're taking his side, but you're supposed to be my boyfriend and support me!
Jason: I do support you! I just think this place is a little dangerous.
Anne: Well, this is what boyfriends or friends do. Remember? They help each other get the things they want.
She unwraps Sprig's tongue from her arm as the boys look at her confused.
Sprig: Huh?
Jason: What you talkin' about?
Anne: Look, if a friend likes a pencil case, you get it for them.
Jason: Well if it's for a gift. Yeah
Anne: If your friend likes your new shoes, you give them to her.
Jason: Wait what- her?!
And if a friend wants you to steal a crazy music box from a thrift store, even if you don't really want to, you do it, okay? Because if you don't, they might not want to be your friend anymore.
Jason looks at her now knowing what she's talking about before putting a hand on her shoulder.
Jason: Anne… it's not your fault.
She pulls away from him before sighing. Sprig looks at the sign before making his decision.
Sprig: Fine.
Sprig walks away from the two as Anne sighs.
Anne: Fine.
Jason: Anne, if you want to talk, i'm always here-
He was then cut off by Sprig running back to them before doing a backflip into the lake.
Sprig: Whoo-hoo!
Anne: Ah, yeah! That's what I'm talkin' about!
Sprig comes back up, spraying water from his mouth as Anne goes for a cannonball.
Anne: Cannonball!
As she lands in the water by Sprig, making a big splash, they both emerge from the depths laughing as Jason was still on land. Still in his same mood from before when Anne called out to.

Anne: Come on Jason the water is fine!
Jason: I-I don't know…
Anne/Sprig: JUMP, JUMP, JUMP!!!
As they were cheering Jason was thinking about it. Seeing them have fun and nothing is going wrong right now.
Jason: OH WHAT THE HECK!!! TIME TO SEE WHAT A REAL CANNONBALL IS LIKE!!!
Jason jumped into the lake, splashing both Anne and Sprig. As he resurfaced he laughed a little before his head started to hurt. He held before he saw images of a serpent coming towards as they all screamed. He shook his head and slapped himself.
Jason:What was that?
Anne and Sprig swam up to him, worried about him.
Anne: Hey, you ok?
Jason: Yeah… I'm fine. Let's forget about this and have some fun.
Anne: Ok, but tell me if you're not feeling well.
Jason nods before splashing noth them with water. He laughed before being splashed by water by Sprig who laughed. They paddled through the water before splashing each other with water.
Jason got under Anne as she floated in the water before he started tickling her nonstop.
Anne: HAHAH, Jason no! Hahah, you know I don't like being tickled!
Jason: That's why I like doing it.
He continued this before Spring came in rapping his tongue around Jason.
Jason: Betrayal!
Anne: And also my revenge!
She then started tickling him, making him burst out laughing.
Jason: HAHAHAHAHA, OK I'LL STOP, HAHAHAH!!!
After a few minutes Anne was taking pictures of the boys as they flexed their muscles.
Jason: Get ready for the gun show!
Sprig: We're the buffest men around!
Anne chuckles before she goes to take the picture before her eyes go wide.
Anne: Uhhhhh…..
Sprig: I was blinking, was I?
Jason: She must be astonished at how awesome we look.
A shadow looms over them as they both slowly turn around, seeing a giant serpent staring at them. Jason looked at the serpent from his vision.
Jason: No way…
The serpent roared as they all screamed and started paddling away from it as it gave chase to them. Anne was starting to fall behind from the boys not being as good of a swimmer.
Anne: Stupid non-webbed human hands! Why didn't I take those classes like Jason did?
Jason looked behind him to see the serpent come closer to Anne before quickly swimming over and pushed her out the way. The serpent made a big splash, sending him back and down under.
Anne/Sprig: JASON?!
Jason was holding his breath under water as the serpent came swimming towards him. He quickly gets to the surface coming face to face with the beast.
Jason: Ok, you live jump rope. Time to feast on the power of the Manado!
He reached for the Manado he smirked as the serpent was ready to strike at any second…. but it wasn't there. He looked to the shore to see Manado.He then slowly looked over to the serpent.
Jason: So… how's your day going?
The serpent then leapt at him as Anne and Sprig screamed out to him. Jason covered himself trying to shield himself from his ultimate demise when suddenly the Manado then flew towards him. He grabbed it and a yellow symbol appeared (盾) in the whole of the sword before he was in some kind of bubble. The serpent bit down on him but he couldn't get through the shield.
Jason: Whoa!
Jason smiled but it soon faded as the serpent kept on attacking, cracking the shield.
Jason: UH GUYS A LITTLE HELP BE AWESOME RIGHT NOW!!!
Anne didn't know what to do, seeing her boyfriend in danger brought tears in her eyes. She was useless.
Anne: Sprig, I'm just slowing you down, buddy. Get out of here. This was my fault anyway. I should have listened to you.
Sprig then punched her in the face, snapping her out of it.
Sprig: Friend punch!
Anne: Ow! Hey.
Sprig: Never! I'm not about to let my first real friends get eaten. We're in this together.
They then see that Jason's shield was about to break as he tried to hold on.
Jason: Some help will be great right now!
Anne: Uh, any ideas because I'm not trying to lose the love of my life?
Sprig then hopped on her head making her stumble a little.
Anne: Ah! What are you doing?
Sprig: I have a plan. Stand up!
Anne: Uh, okay.
Sprig: When I count to three, duck.
Anne: What? Are you crazy?
Sprig: Just trust me.
She nods her head.
Sprig: Hey you big oversized worm.
He yelled over to the serpent getting its attention. Jason finally let down his shield before he saw what Anne and Sprig were planning.
Sprig: Come and get me!
Jason: Sprig no!
The serpent came rushing up to them as Sprig stood ready
Sprig:All right. One, two... three!
Anne ducked down as Sprig rolled up into a ball and the snake ate him. Anne and Jason stood in horror seeing their only friend in this world eaten.
Anne: Sprig! Vengeance!
Jason: I will bring you a painful death, you worm wannabe!
Jason grabbed hold of his Monado and activated the beam before Anne and him went on the attack. Anne used a stick to bash its head as Jason swung the Manado to cause marks onto its scales.
Anne: Take this and this! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa, whoa! Whoa!
Anne got flung off the serpents back and Jason as he was going for another strike. The serpent was going to attack, but his stomach started to burn as his nose started to smoke. It then burped up fire before full on done a fire breath like a flame thrower and puked out Sprig, him being caught by Anne.
Jason: Dude, you're alive?!
Anne: What did you do?
Sprig then pulls out one oh Hop Pop's pain peppers.
Sprig: So hot, they'll make you wish you were dead.
Anne: You little genius, you.
Sprig: And it looks like he couldn't take the heat.
They all had a good laugh before the serpent roared making them jump.
Anne: Run!
Sprig: Death approaches!
Jason: Not today Saten!
Back at the Plantar Hop finally wakes up, gasping.
HP: I'm up! I'm awake!
Hop Pop checked his pockets seeing that the key wasn't there.
HP: The key. It's gone!
He then immediately came out now with his jacket on.
HP: Oh, no. Did they get out? Is the town rioting? Are they dead? Has Anne eaten the kids, the whole town?
He then holds up the lock seeing it still locked.
HP: What's this now? It's still locked.
He then goes down to the basement seeing the guys playing a board game.
Jason: Ok Anne, if you miss this roll. You owe me that bag of Cheese Puffs.
Anne takes the dice and shakes 'em.
Anne: Come on. Mama needs a new pair of shoes. Seriously though, I do need new shoes.
HP: You guys have been here all day, huh?
Anne: Yeah, dude. I'm on a winning streak.
Sprig: I owe her my first-born child.
Jason: I owe her a hand in marriage.
Anne: Oh, by the way, Hop Pop. We found this on the floor. You must have dropped it.
She brings out the key as Hop Pop grumbles and takes the key.
HP: Dang shallow pockets. Well, you get what you pay for.
He then goes upstairs when Polly jumps out with Dorris
Polly: Aha!
Anne: 'Sup, Polly?
Jason: How is it going?
Polly: You're not gonna eat us, are you? You're not even gonna try. Dis... appointing.
She then hops back upstairs as the other sighed.
Anne: Hey, sorry I almost got us killed today.
Jason: Hey don't get yourself worked up. We all make a few mistakes in our life.
He then takes the Monado as the laser blade comes up.
Jason: But this thing wasn't an accident. I may not know a lot about this thing, but I know that I'm gonna find out sooner or later.
Sprig: Yeah! Like when you used the sword to fly to you and activate that shield was so cool. My heart was beating faster than a dragonfly on a sugar rush. In fact, I'm feeling a little... sleepy.
He then flopped onto Anne bed and the two teens both chuckled a little. Jason laid the Manado on the wall and layee his head on Anne's shoulder, taking a nap.
Anne: Sasha, Rev, Marcy, Tanner, I hope you guys are okay, because we are.
There was then a strike of thunder over a dark, mysterious castle. A big road was standing outside a jail cell. This was Captain Grime.
Grime: Take a look at this please, Sasha, Rev.
He brings out Anne's missing shoe.
Grime: It was found far from here, in the South Forest. Now we know that you've been lying to us.
Inside the cage was Sasha and Rev chained up as Rev. Rev growled at the toad.
Grime: Now we know that there are more of you.

Speed
: Sorry guys I couldn't get this out earlier. Or three week more earlier would be exactly. I had to do a school project for science, had multiple tests that I had to study for and had stuff going on in my personal life. So there are going to be some slow updates, but I'll try to get more chapters out for my stories the best I can.
