Ch 12 Finding a Solution

The next day Kion and Kiara were up early as they always were. The brother and sister got up and stretched, being careful not to wake Nala, who was still sound asleep. Simba was up early as usual and together the King and his children walked up to the top of Pride Rock to watch the sunrise as they did everyday. After watching the sunrise the trio went down to get some breakfast. As they were eating Sarabi and Sarafina approached Simba. "Good morning honey," Sarabi said, smiling at her son and grandchildren.

"Mother," Simba said flatly. "Sarafina."

"Grandma!" Kion and Kiara cried out, embracing both of their grandmothers.

"Hello my darlings," Sarafina said, licking the tops of her grandchildren's heads. Then she looked up at Simba and said, "Simba Sarabi and I were hoping you'd allow us to take the children out today."

"Yes its been quite some time since we've had alone time with them," Sarabi said, smiling down at her grandchildren.

"Can we Daddy?" Kiara asked.

"Yeah please Dad can we?" Kion chimed in.

"Sorry kids but that's not going to happen," Simba said. Kion and Kiara let out groans of disappointment.

"Simba please," Sarabi began. "You've barely spoken two words to us since Kion's accident."

"Yes and you haven't allowed us to be alone with them either," Sarafina put in. "If I didn't know better I'd say you didn't trust us with them."

"That's because I don't trust you two with them," Simba declared. Sarabi and Sarafina blinked in surprise at Simba's words. "You left the cubs unattended their first time out of the cave," Simba went on. "And Kion nearly died. So its going to be a very long time before I trust either one of you with my cubs."

"Simba please," Sarabi tried again. "We already feel terrible about what happened."

"And you should!" Simba exclaimed. "And the matter is closed Mother! End of discussion! Kion! Kiara! Lets go!" With that Simba turned and walked away from his mother and mother-in-law. Kion and Kiara gave their grandmothers nuzzles before they joined their father. Sarabi and Sarafina watched the cubs go with saddened expressions.

"What's wrong?" Nala asked, coming onto the scene. "I just saw Simba leaving with the cubs. He looked very unhappy."

"He's still so angry with us," Sarafina said softly. "He blames us for Kion's accident and he won't allow Sarabi or I to be alone with them."

"He says he doesn't trust us with them," Sarabi said, her voice coming out soft as well.

"I'm sorry Mom," Nala said, nuzzling her mother. "And to you too Sarabi. I'll talk to Simba. I'll get him to see how wrong he is about this."

"Thank you Nala," Sarabi said with a small smile. "But you and I both know how stubborn my son can be. I highly doubt he'll change his mind." Without another word Sarabi turned and walked away with Sarafina right behind her. As Nala was watching the two lionesses go she shook her head. "I'll make this right," the Queen thought. "I'll get Simba to see the error of his ways." With that Nala set off to find her mate and set him straight.

Meanwhile Simba had allowed Kion and Kiara to go play. So the twin gathered up Kopa, Tiifu and Zuri and headed to the Grasslands, hoping Kovu and Miwa would be waiting for them their. They weren't disappointed when Kovu and Miwa were indeed there along with Fuli, Ono and Beshte. "Hey guys!" Kion exclaimed running up to his friends with a smile.

"Hey," the other called back with smiles of their own.

"Hey there Kiara," Kovu said with a smile.

"Hey Uongo," Kiara said with a smile of her own.

"Uh I was wondering if we could hang out together," Kovu said. "You know just the two of us?"

"But we always play together," Kiara said, sounding confused.

"I know," Kovu said quickly. "But I was uh just wanting some alone time with you. That's all." Kovu looked away quickly when he said this part. Kiara gave Kovu a funny look. But before she could say anything Kion spoke up.

"I just remembered something," the golden Prince said. "My Dad said he wants to met your mother to get properly introduced to her."

"He does?" Kovu said softly.

"Yeah he does," Kion said with a nod. Kovu and Miwa exchanged worried looks, which Kion picked up on. "What's the matter with you guys?" the golden Prince asked, giving his friends a look.

"Uh nothing," Kovu said quickly.

"You just uh took us by surprise that's all," Miwa added.

"Why are you guys acting so weird?" Kiara asked.

"We're not," Kovu said, a little more forceful than he had meant to. "Like Miwa said you took us by surprise that's all."

"Yeah we'll tell our Mom your Dad wants to meet her," Miwa said.

"Well alright then," Kion said with a smile. "Lets get back to playing." With that the cubs went back to playing their game of tag.

Later that night Kovu and Miwa had returned to the Outlands. "Mother!" Kovu cried out, running over to Zira, who was chatting with Vumbi and another lioness from her Pride.

"Kovu!" Zira snarled, causing Kovu to jump. "Don't interrupt me when I'm discussing important things!"

"But Mother this is important!" Kovu cried out.

"Yeah we've got a huge problem Aunt Zira!" Miwa exclaimed.

"And what is that?" Vumbi asked.

"King Simba said he wants to meet out mother," Kovu explained. "Like tomorrow."

"Does he now?" Zira growled. "Well if that's what he wants then that's what he'll get." Kovu and Miwa exchanged confused looks but neither cub said anything. "Tojo! Come here now!"

"You know Zira a please would be nice every once and a while," Tojo grumbled as he approached his sister. Vitani and Nuka were behind their uncle but the two siblings stayed back for fear of what Zira may do.

"I don't have time for you idiocy Tojo," Zira snapped. Tojo rolled his blue eyes but said nothing. "We've got more pressing issues here," the crazed lioness continued. "Simba is demanding to meet Kovu and Miwa's mother. And that's exactly what's going to happen."

"But Zira," Vumbi said. "Simba's already met me."

"And that's why you're not going," Zira growled.

"Then who..." Vumbi began.

"Shirika!" Zira shouted. "Come here now!" Within minutes a lioness with a dark brown coat and light blue eyes approached Zira.

"Yes Zira?" Shirika asked, dipping her head in submission.

"You're going to meet Simba and pretend you're Kovu and Miwa's mother," Zira informed the dark brown lioness.

"Yes Zira," Shirika said. "Whatever you wish for me to do."

"Zira I don't know about this," Tojo said. "I've got a bad feeling about this whole thing."

"No one asked for your damn opinion Tojo!" Zira snarled. "The only reason you're even here is so you won't ask any asinine questions. You have no say so what so ever."

"I sure as Hell do!" Tojo snarled, glaring at his sister. "Miwa is my daughter Zira! Not yours! So I can say whatever the Hell I want! Keep this up and I won't allow my daughter to participate in your stupid plan!"

"You'll do exactly as I say Tojo!" Zira snarled, getting in Tojo's face. "Or I sware on Scar's grave it won't be pretty!"

"Like I said before," Tojo growled. "I'm not afraid of you Zira."

"Tojo please don't start anything," Vumbi pleaded with her mate.

"I'm not the one starting things Vumbi," Tojo declared. "But I'll be quiet. But only because I don't want a fight to break out with the cubs around."

"Good," Zira hissed. Then she turned back to Shirika, who was looking at her with wide blue eyes.

"Tomorrow you will meet the brute," Zira instructed. "And once you've gained the trust of Simba our grand plan will begin." With that Zira let out an evil laugh and turned and left, leaving her confused family behind.
