Ch 13 Meeting the "Parent"
The next day Shirika was in the Pride Lands along with Kovu and Miwa. "Now remember children," the dark brown lioness was instructing. "I'm your mother today. So you must remember to call me Mom. Can you do that?"
"Yes," Kovu said with a nod. "And hopefully you can remember my name is Uongo not Kovu."
"I'll remember," Shirika said with a smile.
"Here they come!" Miwa whispered. Shirika and Kovu looked and saw Kion and Kiara heading towards them. Simba and Nala were right behind their children. "Hey guys!" Miwa cried out, running over to her friends with Kovu right behind her.
"Hey Miwa," Kion said with a smile. "Hey Uongo."
"What's up guys?" Kovu said with a laugh. Then he noticed Simba staring at him. "Oh uh h...hello," Kovu stammered nervously. "I...I'm K...I mean Uongo. And this is my sister: Miwa."
"Hello children," Simba said with a smile.
"Its very nice to meet you both," Nala said with a smile of her own. "Kion and Kiara have done nothing but talk about you both."
"Its nice to meet you too Your Highness," Miwa said softly.
"And you must be their mother," Simba said, looking over at Shirika.
"Yes I'm their mother," Shirika said with a nod. "My name is Shirika and I'm honored to meet you both Your Majesties." Shirika dipped her head to the Royal Couple when she said this last part.
"Please call us Simba and Nala," Nala said with a smile.
"Very well Nala," Shirika said with a smile of her own.
"I'm sorry if I seam rude but where exactly are you from?" Simba asked. "I've never seen you before and I'd like to know where all the new lionesses come from just to make sure there won't be any trouble."
"I understand," Shirika said. "There's so many evil creatures out there. Can't be to careful. But to answer your question Simba: my children and I come from a place called the Dark Lands. Perhaps you know their King, Alamaine?"
"Yes I've had the displeasure of meeting him," Simba said with a growl. "He and his son: Giza are not very pleasant lions."
"You are very much correct on that," Shirika said. "That's why I left. When my little Miwa was born Alamaine approached me about betrothing her to Giza, who mind you is a grown lion. When I refused he said if I didn't comply he'd kill Uongo. I wasn't about to let that happen so as soon as Miwa was old enough I fled."
"Well please feel free to stay as long as you'd like," Simba said with a smile. "In fact if you'd like you can consider the Pride Lands your new home."
"Thank you Simba," Shirika said. "You don't know what that means to me and my children."
"You should come back to Pride Rock and stay with us," Nala suggested.
"No that's alright," Shirika said. "I don't do well around a lot of lionesses. But I do thank you for the offer."
"Well if you change your mind you know where you can go," Simba said. "Now if you'll please excuse me I must be making the rounds for the day."
"And I have to get back for the hunt," Nala said. "Kion you and Kiara play nice and be back by dark."
"Yes Mom," the twins said together.
"Uongo you and Miwa be back by dark as well," Shirika said.
"Yes Mom," the two cubs said together. With that the adults left leaving the cubs to play on their own.

Later in the day the cubs were playing nicely and enjoying each other's company. "Hey I've got an idea!" Kovu cried out. "Lets do some exploring away from the Grasslands."
"Yeah," Miwa said, her blue eyes wide. "That's a great idea bro!"
"And I know the perfect place," Kion said with a smile. "C'mon follow me!" With that the four cubs followed the golden Prince until the reached the area right beside the gorge. "This is a great place to play," Kion declared. "There's lots of places to hide and stuff."
"We should go down there," Kovu said, walking over to the edge of the gorge and peering down.
"We're not allowed to go down there," Kion informed his friend.
"Why not?" Miwa asked,
"Our Dad said its to dangerous," Kiara explained. "His dad our grandfather: Mufasa died down there when Daddy was a cub."
"Eh that was a long time ago," Kovu said, waving his paw. "What harm could it do to just have a look?" Without waiting for a response Kovu began walking down the side of the gorge.
"Uongo wait!" Kion cried out. "Don't! We're not allowed..." But Kovu was already gone. "Uongo hold up!" Kion cried out, running down the side after his friend.
"Hey wait for us!" Kiara cried out as she and Miwa followed the two males.

A few minutes later the four cubs had reached the bottom of the gorge. "This place is huge!" Kovu cried out, laughing as his voice echoed through the gorge.
"Yeah," Kion said with a laugh. "It is pretty cool. But we can't stay down here for to long. It'll be getting dark soon and its gonna take us a while to climb back up."
"Then lets not waste this time!" Kovu cried out as he started to run down the gorge. The other cubs ran after him, laughing the entire time. After running around for a while the four cubs layed down to rest.
"This is so much fun!" Kion said with a laugh.
"Yeah," Kiara giggled. "I wonder why Daddy says this place is dangerous?"
"Ah adults are always sayin' that," Kovu said, waving his paw. "I think they say it just to keep us from having fun."
"For real," Miwa said with a yawn.
"We'd better be getting back," Kion said with a yawn of his own.
"Can't we stay just a few more minutes?" Kiara asked.
"Well I guess a few more minutes won't hurt," Kion said. With that the cubs continued their talk. Only Kion was getting sleepy and wasn't really paying attention. The next thing Kion knew he couldn't keep his eyes opened and soon he was fast asleep.

Kion awoke to being freezing cold. When he opened his eyes to his shock it was pitch black out. Looking over he saw Kiara, Miwa and Kovu were fast asleep. "Guys wake up!" Kion cried out.
"Huh?" Kovu mumbled, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. "What happened?"
"We fell asleep that's what happened!" Kion cried out. "Its the middle of the night!"
"Oh no Mom and Daddy are probably really worried about us!" Kiara cried out, getting to her feet, her amber eyes wide.
"We need to go home!" Miwa cried out, jumping to her feet, her blue eyes wide. "Like right now!" With that the four cubs began to climb back up the side of the gorge. But their tired young bodies wouldn't let them make the steep climb.
"There's no way we're gonna be able to climb back up!" Kovu said with a grunt.
"We'll just have to sleep down here tonight," Kion declared. "In the morning we'll have more energy to make the climb." The three other cubs nodded in agreement and they began to make their way back towards where they were before.
"We should sleep in here," Kovu suggested, nodding towards a log that was nearby. "That way we'll be warmer."
"Good idea," Kion said. With that the four cubs climbed into the log and were soon fast asleep again despite knowing that they were going to be in big trouble when they returned home in the morning.
