Ch 14 Facing the Consequences of Your Actions
Kion awoke to the sun shining through the cracks in the log. Opening his eyes the golden Prince was annoyed to find Kiara's foot right in his face. "Ugh gross!" Kion grumbled, shoving Kiara's foot away from him.
"Huh?" Kiara grumbled as she slid off of Kovu and onto the ground.
"Is it morning?" Miwa asked, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.
"Yeah its morning," Kion said as he exited the log and stretched. The other cubs followed suit. "We've gotta get home," Kion said with a groan. "Dad's going to be so mad that we were gone all night."
"Yeah our Mom will be too," Kovu said, shuddering slightly when he thought of how angry Zira was going to be when he got home. Without saying another word the four cubs began to climb back up the side of the gorge.

After bidding their friends goodbye Kion and Kiara headed back to Pride Rock, both of them dreading explaining where they were to their parents. However they didn't make it very far before they heard someone calling their name. Turning the two cubs saw Sarabi running towards them with Sarafina right behind her. "Kion!" the tan coated lioness cried out, nuzzling her grandchildren. "Kiara! Thank the King you're both alright!"
"Sweeties where were you?!" Sarafina cried out, licking both Kion and Kiara's heads. "Everyone's been worried sick about you!"
"Can we explain later Grandma?" Kion asked.
"Yeah," Kiara chimed in. "We'd rather explain it once instead of a million times if that's alright."
"That's fine dear," Sarafina said. "But lets get you two home. Your parents have been beside themselves with worry." With that Sarafina picked up Kiara while Sarabi picked up Kion and the two lionesses carried the cubs back to Pride Rock.

Once the group was back they were met by a very worried looking Simba and Nala. "Kion!" Simba cried out when he saw his children.
"Kiara!" Nala cried out at the same time. Sarabi and Sarafina placed the cubs on the ground and the King and Queen ran up to their children and pulled them close, nuzzling them and licking them over and over again."
"Where were you two?" Simba demanded after a few minutes. "Your mother and I have been worried sick! I sent the whole Pride out looking for both of you!"
"We're sorry Dad," Kion said softly, pinning his ears to his head in shame.
"Yeah Daddy we were playing with Uongo and Miwa and we decided to rest for a little while," Kiara said. "But the next thing we knew it was in the middle of the night and we were too tired to climb back to the top of the gorge so we just slept down there."
"Gorge?" Simba said, narrowing his amber eyes at his children. Kion groaned and Kiara gasped, realizing her mistake. "You two were down at the gorge?" Simba demanded.
"Uh yeah we were," Kion admitted, lowering his eyes.
"I thought I made myself clear when I said you two were not to go down there," Simba said, his voice having a slight edge to it.
"We're sorry Dad," Kion said. "But nothing really happened down there so its not a big deal."
"Not a big deal?" Simba repeated. Kion groaned as he realized he had said the wrong thing. "Not a big deal?!" Simba said, his voice rising. "It most certainly is a big deal Kion! You and your sister disobeyed me and went to a very dangerous place and stayed out all night! That is a very big deal!"
"But Dad..." Kion began.
"I'm not finished Kion!" Simba cried out. Kion gasped and Kiara hid behind Nala, as both cubs were scared of Simba's temper.
"Simba!" Nala cried out. "Stop that shouting right now! You're scaring them!"
"I'm sorry," Simba said, his voice much calmer. "I didn't mean to scare you two. Its just that I've lost a lot in the damn gorge and the idea of losing either one of you is terrifying to me. I'm so sorry I scared you guys."
"It alright Dad," Kion said with a small smile.
"Yeah," Kiara said, coming out from behind Nala's leg. "We're the ones that should be sorry. And we are sorry we made you and Mom worry so much."
"We love you both so much," Simba said, nuzzling his children.
"We love you guys too," Kion said with a smile.
"Yeah like a lot," Kiara said, nuzzling into Nala's chest fur.
"But don't think you two are getting off without a punishment," Nala said, giving her children stern looks.
"Aw man," Kion grumbled. "I should have seen that coming."
"How long are we grounded for?" Kiara asked.
"A week," Simba informed his children. "Now get inside the cave. Your mother will bring you food."
"Yes Dad," the twins said together. With that the two cubs went inside to begin their punishment. Before they went inside Simba pulled Sarabi and Sarafina to the side. "I just wanted to apologize to you both," the golden King began. "I've been acting harshly towards you both and I'm sorry for that."
"Thank you Simba," Sarabi said with a smile. "We really appreciate you saying that."
"Well I mean it," Simba said, nuzzling his mother and mother-in-law.
"Does this mean we can spend time alone with Kion and Kiara again?" Sarafina asked, hoping the answer would be yes.
"Of course it does," Simba said with another smile. "I never should have denied you two access like that."
"Thank you Simba," Sarafina said with a grateful smile. "We know how hard this has been for you."
"Well that was still no excuse for my poor attitude towards you two," Simba said. "But trust me that won't happen again. Now come lets go inside shall we?" With that the threesome went inside the cave to get some much needed rest.

Meanwhile back in the Outlands Miwa and Kovu had returned. "Miwa!" Tojo cried out, running over to his daughter and pulling her close.
"Oh honey where have you been?!" Vumbi cried out as she nuzzled her daughter.
"Kovu where the Hell have you been bro?" Nuka asked, nuzzling his brother along with Vitani.
"Yeah we've been like super freaked out that Simba found you guys out and killed you," Vitani chimed in.
"We're sorry we worried everyone," Kovu said. "We fell asleep in the gorge when we were playing with Kion and Kiara."
"And I trust you disposed of them while you were down there?" Zira asked, coming onto the scene with Mchanga and Shirika right behind her.
"No Mother we didn't," Kovu said softly.
"And why the Hell not?" Zira demanded, causing her son to jump.
"Y...you didn't say it was time for that yet Mother," Kovu stammered, shaking from fear. "I...I'm sorry Mother. I...it wasn't really my fault."
"You're right Kovu," Zira said, surprising the group. "I'm sorry I yelled at you. And you're right. It isn't time for that just yet."
"So you're not angry Mother?" Kovu asked softly.
"I'm angry that you and Miwa stayed out all night," Zira said. "But you must be hungry Kovu. Nuka! Vitani! Bring us food! Now!"
"Yes Mother!" the two siblings said, running off to gather food. A little while later they were back with the food.
"Now get out of my sight!" Zira snarled. Without saying a word Vitani and Nuka took off.
"C'mon sis," Nuka whispered. "Lets go get a drink from the river."
"Good idea," Vitani said, looking back at Zira, who had her back to them. With that the two siblings headed towards the river, neither one of them knowing that doing so would change their lives forever.
