This is an alternate version of how they met.
in another universe maybe!
When Ororo invited him to Xavier Institute so he could see what they did for a living, he didn't expect to find what he found. Nor did he expect to have to battle freaks who wrecked schools full of children.
What he certainly didn't expect was to have to do reconstruction work.
But there he was, looking for the guy who was in charge of the cement. Who should be somewhere in the back of the mansion. He walked up to a hut that had its door open. He went inside and saw a woman with chestnut hair pulled back in a bun. She was wearing black leggings and a green tank top. Nice legs and nice ass.
"Do you need anything,?" asked as she heard him step inside, turning around. Great ass, gorgeous face, and southern neighbor. That place had already won a couple of points.
"I was looking for Rogue, but it looks like I've found something better," he said smiling not even trying to disguise a saucy stare.
"You've found what you were looking for, Sugah," she smiled biting her lip, and looked at him like he was a piece of candy she wanted to eat up. Well, this is gonna be fun. "I'm Rogue and you must be Gambit, 'Ro's friend."
"I leave Gambit for my enemies, Remy for friends," he said extending his hand towards her.
She looked at the hand and smiled cheekily. Maybe, it wasn't going to be as easy as he thought at first.
"I'm none of those things, Sugah," she replied placing her hands on her hips.
"Sugah sounds amazing to me, chère," he replied. She kept smiling, staring at him with her head tilted to one side, making a couple of strands of white cover her face. He could wipe that smile away with a kiss.
She let out a soft chuckle and turned around to grab a pair of gloves from the pile of cement sacks in front of her.
"So what can I do for you?" Rogue asked not looking in his direction.
"I was told to help you with the cement sacks," he explained stepping closer to her.
"Who told you that?" she asked raising an eyebrow in disbelief. Looking like she was about to burst out laughing.
"Eeeh... The ice guy... Tommy?" Remy answered not quite understanding her reaction.
"Bobby," she corrected him. "Well, he's been pulling your leg, Sugah," Rogue bent down and lifted the pallet with the cement sacks like they were a pile of cushions. "I don't need help with the sacks."
"You don't need it with the sacks, but you can't see where you step and unless those pretty eyes see through things, you still need my help," he pointed placing himself beside her as they walked.
"Ok, show me the way..." she looked at him for a second and after smiling again, added. "Remy."
They went where the rest were working. It turned out easier than he had expected thanks mostly to being surrounded by people with extraordinary skills. Which left plenty of room to banter and flirt with the girl throughout the day.
She was funny and sassy and answered wittily to his advances.
After finishing, the whole team shared beers and sandwiches while a few of them took a dip in the pool. Night came quickly and he found himself alone wandering around the mansion's gardens.
He spotted Rogue sitting by the pool and approached her.
"Would you give me a private tour of the place, chère?" he asked leaning down and poking his head in front of her. " I've seen the inside of the house, but no one has shown me the garden."
Rogue smiled and stood up. She had put on a hoodie. She was wearing gloves, which was odd since it wasn't that cold.
"Sure," she said. "Anything you want to see in particular?"
"With this company, any place will look beautiful to me," he replied smiling impishly.
She smiled too and walked beside him through the gardens. Talking and making silly jokes as they walked. Until they reached the greenhouse.
"...And I recommend you don't mess up 'Ro's plants if you don't want her to fry your ass," she added.
"I think I've won Stormy's heart, so she can forgive me if I break any leaves," he replied poking his head through the glass panes of the greenhouse.
"It's just a little advice," she said. She smiled and brushed the hair back from her face without taking her eyes off him.
They stood in silence for a moment. She was really beautiful and in the soft lights of the garden she looked lovely. And he couldn't resist the urge and leaned in to kiss her.
Rogue pulled away startled and took a step back, her eyes filled with panic. He didn't know what to do. He stood frozen in place not daring to move.
"I'm sorry... I thought..."He tried to say seeing how scared she looked.
"No, I'm the one who's sorry, Remy," Rogue said leaning her back against one of the greenhouse windows. "I shouldn't have flirted with you. I can't do this."
"Are you engaged or something?" he asked mimicking her gesture, leaning his back against the glass. "If so let me tell you that you're very young and I'm not a jealous guy," he added with a smile to lighten the mood.
"I mean that literally, I can't. It's my mutation," she sighed looking down at her hands. "I can't touch anyone, if I do I take away their memories and their powers, and... I hurt them."
"I thought your mutation made you fly and be super strong," he said glancing sideways at her, hardly daring to breathe.
"No, that was by mistake. I did something bad and stole someone's powers..." she suddenly muttered looking so sad that it made him feel bad.
She smiled shaking her head like she wanted to erase the bad thoughts. And let out a long sigh.
"You can say I'm radioactive. It's better to stay away from me," she joked, but he didn't find it funny.
Hiding behind a carefree attitude the mistakes of the past was too familiar to him. But the guilt and regret were always there. He smiled at her, holding back the urge to touch her face. Instead, Remy rummaged in his pockets for the tobacco packet and lit a cigarette.
"I think we can have fun without touching each other, chère," he replied finally, looking at her pertly.
Rogue burst out laughing. She was incredibly beautiful when she laughed.
"Oh, Sugah how did you manage to make that sound kinky?" she said laughing.
"Maybe it's my second mutation, chère," he replied winking at her.
"Let's get home before the others think I've killed you," Rogue joked stepping forward.
And he followed her enjoying the sights of those tight leggings.
