Yu-Gi-Oh! NEO
Chapter 4: Shining Knight From Hell! Invoked Mechaba
"Yuri, I know this is a heavy burden that I will be placing on you, and I would love for it not to be like this, but the truth cannot be changed. Now that your father and I are gone from this world, we would have to entrust your sister, Yumi, unto you. It will forever be our shame to have to do this, and we will ensure that the two of you won't be alone, but there's no one we can fully trust to love and care for the two of you like we do besides you yourselves. As our parting gift to Yumi, please give her this card once you think she's earned it. We love you both..."
Turn 3: Yumi
Yumi took a deep breath, slowly taking out the top card of her deck, her hopes and dreams riding on this act. "DRAW!" At first, she was afraid to look. She's scared that she didn't draw it. That her hopes and dreams will end here. But it's impossible to forever look away if she wants to move forward. So, after gathering up the courage, she slowly opened her eyes. She didn't draw her sister's card.
The proctor watched her intently, noting every aspect of her mannerisms. "Didn't get what you want?" She didn't need an answer, though. The clear look of disappointment in her eyes spoke loud enough.
I can't give up here! Yumi thought to herself. But how could I win without Yuri's card? It's clear that she's thinking of a way to win. She's not about to give up just because she didn't draw 1 card!
"You should make a move soon," the proctor said. "The time is ticking."
Time? Yumi pondered. And then she suddenly realized. All this time I've been sending cards to the graveyard! Of course! How could I have forgotten about it?
With renewed motivation, Yumi once again assumed her usual confident pose. "I play the card I just drew - Foolish Burial!"
"And here I'm starting to think RNG screwed you over!" She then pointed her finger to Invoked Purgatorio and, with righteous fury, said: "Now hurry up and get rid of this stupid junk!"
"With pleasure!" Yuri took a card from her deck and sent it to the graveyard. "Thanks to the effect of Foolish Burial, I am able to send my beloved Lumina to the graveyard! Now, I activate Glorious Illusion!"
One of her face-down cards revealed itself to be a permanent trap. "I special summon Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner from my graveyard!" The dark-skinned girl appeared in her holy garbs, though this time as a rather shaky phantasm.
Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner [Level 3/LIGHT/Spellcaster/1000 ATK/1000 DEF]
"Then I'll activate her effect, discarding Raiden from my hand to special summon a monster from my graveyard! Like the Raiden I just sent there!" The warrior reappeared in all flesh and meat, brandishing his knife like it's brand new.
Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn [Level 4/LIGHT/Warrior/1700 ATK/1000 DEF/Tuner]
"Then I activate Raiden's effect, allowing me to send two cards to the graveyard!" She took two more cards from the top of her deck and placed it on her grave. "For every Lightsworn monster sent by this effect, Raiden gains 200 ATK! There was one, and lucky me that it's Wulf, who special summons himself when sent from the deck to the graveyard!" As Raiden's sword glowed brighter, a big, hairy wolf-man appeared from the graveyard.
Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn [1700 ATK1900 ATK]
Wulf, Lightsworn Beast [Level 4/LIGHT/Beast-Warrior/2100 ATK/300 DEF]
"Not like that!" said and irritated proctor. "You're just raising Purgatorio's attack!"
Invoked Purgatorio [2300 ATK2900 ATK]
"Just you wait, ma'am! I'll be destroying him in no time!" Both Wulf and Raiden suddenly turned into glowing balls. "I overlay my level 4 Wulf and Raiden!"
"Exalted maiden, descend into the mortal realm to bless your subjects! XYZ SUMMON!"
The two orbs sucked into the portal exploded, creating a colourful display of lights.
"Appear, Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn!"
As the colors dissipated, the heavens itself split open and revealed a holy light. From this light descended an angel that, unlike Celestia, wore nothing but pure white robes while carrying a scepter, circled by two shining orbs of light. As she descends, so does her faithful companion - a snow white owl that rested upon her left hand after they landed.
Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn [Rank 4/LIGHT/Fairy/2000 ATK/800 DEF/XYZ]
For a moment everyone in the stadium stood in awe. This little girl from the slums have just summoned an angel that descended from the sky, causing even herself to appear to shine. Even the proctor stood in awe at the display. It really isn't the monster itself that drew everyone's eyes, though. It's this fiery little girl calling out to an angel and the angel answering her call.
The proctor was ecstatic at the sight of the beautiful angel. "I wish the Headmaster would give us cards like that for the test!" After that outburst, though, the proctor returned to her stern persona. "Anyways, since you lost a monster, Purgatorio's attack goes down…"
Invoked Purgatorio [29002700]
Yumi chuckled a bit, rather embarrassed that everyone's currently looking at her. "Anyways," she said, trying to ignore the pressure. "I activate Minerva's effect!" One of the shining orbs circling the angel went into her scepter, which glowed brightly and took three cards from Yumi's deck. "By sending three cards from the top of my deck to the graveyard, I can draw 1 card for every 'Lightsworn' monster sent there!" The three cards Minerva took appeared on the field, revealing themselves - Lightsworn Barrier, Card Searcher, and Shire, Lightsworn Spirit. "YES!" she said. "Since 1 Lightsworn monster was sent, I can draw 1 card!"
Once again, she took a deep breath and placed her hand on top of her deck. This is it, she thought. This draw will decide if I can win this duel! Finding her resolve, Yumi drew her card. Though she's still afraid of what it is, she took a peak as soon as it's in her hand. Her eyes lit up.
"I see you've got what you need! Now show what you can do!"
"Okay!" Minerva disappeared from the field, ascending into heaven. "I tribute Minerva in order to summon my favorite card!"
This time, another angel descended from the split heavens, an armored one carrying a scepter, her springs spread wide.
"Holy angel of the Realm of Light, descend unto this Earth and grace us with your presence! TRIBUTE SUMMON! Appear, Celestia, Lightsworn Angel!"
Celestia, Lightsworn Angel [Level 5/LIGHT/Fairy/2300 ATK/200 DEF]
"I activate Celestia's effect! But before we get to her, Minerva's effect also activates!" An apparition of Minerva appeared on the field, taking three cards from Yumi's deck.
"When Minerva is sent to the graveyard, she takes 3 cards from my deck with her, destroying 1 of yours for every Lightsworn monster included!"
Once more, the cards were revealed. There's one Lightsworn card among them.
"Good!" Yumi said.
"You know, if this is how you plan on ridding us of Purgatorio, I can't say I'm impressed. Magical Meltdown prevents Invoked monsters from being destroyed by card effects!"
"But Magical Meltdown itself is not immune! Go Minerva, dissipate this field!"
Minerva raised her staff, causing it to glow a blinding light. When it finally disappeared, so did the mana that has been raging.
"Now there's nothing protecting Purgatorio from Celestia's effect! By sending four cards to the graveyard, I can destroy both Purgatorio and your set card! Divine Afterglow!"
Celestia's staff glowed alongside Purgatorio and the set card. Purgatorio let out a shriek as the light slowly crept into its body, before finally being fully consumed. It is then that the light disappeared, and no one left.
The proctor was more than happy to place her monster in the graveyard."Good riddance, I'll say!"
"I'm not done yet! I use both Celestia and Lumina to attack directly!"
Proctor: 700
"That's it though! So I'll have to place 5 cards to the grave courtesy of Lumina and Glorious Illusion and end my turn!"
"You're deck's running dangerously low kid!" The proctor drew her card. "I doubt it'll last another turn at that rate!"
"I just need one more!"
"Good! I mean, there's no way I can fail you after that combo anyways, but it'll be embarrassing if you decked out!"
Turn 4: Proctor
"I activate the effect of Invocation from the graveyard! By shuffling it back to my deck, I can return 1 banished Aleister the Invoker to my hand!"
"Not again!"
"Then I normal summon Aleister to add 1 Invocation from my deck to my hand!" She took the card and immediately played it. "I banish Aleister along with my freshly drawn Effect Veiler to perform a Fusion Summon!"
Aleister and another card from her hand vanished, opening another portal.
"From the deepest parts of hell I call! Rise and help me vanquish my foe! Fusion Summon! Appear, Invoked Mechaba!"
The portal shook. Then the ground shook. It repeated over and over, faster and faster until it became clear that the ground is thundering. After a few moments, a monster appeared from the portal. A creature clad in shining metal, riding a chariot of the same material, pulled by what seems to be a human.
Invoked Mechaba [Level 9/LIGHT/Machine/2500 ATK/2100 DEF/Fusion]
"Another one!?"
"This one's more bearable, at least visually," the proctor said. "Anyways. Mechaba attacks Lumina! Thunderous Rumbling!"
The chariot moved forward, slowly gaining momentum as it makes it's way across the field and towards its mark. It didn't hit, though. Instead, it circled. It circled around the young maiden who's confused about what's happening, trying to keep an eye on the mechanical abomination and prepared to attack it at any point. Then it hit. She didn't see it. The chariot went so fast that she never had the time to react.
The attack sent waves across the field, kicking up a dust storm that knocked the young girl off her footing.
"Ahhhh!" She screamed.
Yumi: 100
"I end my turn here," the proctor said. "Can you continue?"
Yumi, still feeling the last attack, did her best to stand up again. She might've stumbled once or twice along the way, but the end result didn't change. She's still on the game.
"This rumble function is really something else!" Yumi said to herself.
The proctor smiled.
"Alright, my turn! Draw!"
Turn 5: Yumi
Yumi looked over her hand - the aforementioned Lyla and Light Ruler's Command. While she realized the advantage that Light Ruler's Command will bring, she also knows that she won't be able to capitalize on it yet. "I change Celestia to defense mode and end my turn!"
The angel's wings covered her body, hiding behind it to stop attacks.
"Rather lackluster." The proctor drew her card.
Turn 6: Proctor
"I hope you haven't given up yet! I will use Invocation in my graveyard to add Aleister back to my hand. Then, Mechaba attacks Celestia!"
Mechaba repeated the same circling pattern as it did to Lumina. Celestia didn't move an inch, though. She kept her wings around her body, protecting it from harm. However, it became harder and harder to maintain the position. Soon enough, Mechaba's speed moved so fast and caused Celestia to break her position, sending her flying back.
Thanks to Celestia's protection, Yumi didn't receive any damage. However, she's still left with no monsters and set card in the field.
"Your turn."
Watching from the distance, Yuri stared intently at her sister. Yumi…
There's only one card in the deck that Yumi can use to turn things around. Just one card to win the duel. And she needs to draw it here and now. So, she placed her hand on the deck with the entire duel once more riding on what it is. Then, with all her strength, she drew the topmost card.
It was Monster Reborn.
Turn 7: Yumi
"Whatever you drew, kid," the proctor said, "this is the decisive turn. You either win here or lose the next. Do your best."
You bet it is! Yumi thought. "And you bet I will! I activate Light Ruler's Command! By declaring an attribute, I can negate the effects of face-up monsters with that attribute! And I choose Light!"
"I see… Mechaba's effect allows it to negate any activated effect as long as I discard a card of the same type, so it certainly is not a bad decision. But the question remains: can you do it!?"
"I can and I will!" Yumi placed a card in her duel disk. "I activate Monster Reborn in order to special summon Shire from my graveyard!"
The familiar artifact appeared on the field, followed by a bright light that quickly dissipated. From where the light was came another woman clad in white. At her back is the wings of a butterfly, though mostly resembling a snowflake. In her hand is another scepter.
Shire, Lightsworn Spirit [Level 3/LIGHT/Fairy/400 ATK/1400 DEF]
"Thanks to Shire's effect, she gains 300 ATK for every Lightsworn monster in my graveyard, of which there's currently 9!"
Shire, Lightsworn Spirit [400 ATK - 3100 DEF]
"To summon a 3000 ATK monster with one card... Impressive, but not enough." She discarded a card from her hand. "By discarding Aleister from my hand, all fusion monsters I control gain 1000 ATK!"
Invoked Mechaba [2500 ATK - 3500 ATK]
"What will you do now?"
Yumi smiled, having anticipated this, though the amount of time she's anticipated it to no avail should probably count against her. "I activate my face-down! Equip Spell Unstable Evolution! Thanks to this card, Shire's original attack becomes 2400 for as long as my life is lower! Add in her effect and…"
Shire, Lightsworn Spirit [3100 ATK - 5100 ATK]
The proctor was left wide-eyed at the development, having been completely outplayed. "5000…?"
"Shire, attack Mechaba!"
Mechaba tried to move forward, causing the ground to thunder once more. However, Shire has already appeared before it can even move an inch, hitting it once with it's glowing scepter. Then again. Then again. Then again until the mechanical abomination disappeared completely. But Shire is yet to be satisfied. Before the last piece of Mechaba disappeared, Shire picked it up, hitting it with all her might, sending it flying towards the proctor. When it connected, the proctor herself also went flying.
"Ahhhh…!" she screamed.
Proctor: 0
Winner: Yumi
Everyone cheered as the young girl's face was shown to the entire venue.
Welcome once again and thank you for reading! With the introductory chapters out of the way, the real story can finally start. From here on, expect the story to be a bit slower. Also, I forgot to mention last time that some card effects may not match with their real life equivalents, like Magical Meltdown for example, which only gives summon protection irl bur gives blanket effect immunity here. The reason for this is to (hopefully) make duels more interesting. They will also be compiled with the other cards in the Cards Used part next chapter. Again, thank you for reading and come again next time! (maybe Wednesdays and Sundays. Might be subject to change.)
