Mamma Mia part 3:

Without hesitation, Mello dove into the cold, violent water and swam with all his strength towards Gloria. The water was still expanding, so he struggled to move forward. His body burned as he clashed with the waves. He started to feel himself losing consciousness.

"You won't be able to push through, you dumbass!" shouted Shizuka." "Then how am I going to get over there?" Mello gloomily thought to himself. At that exact moment he noticed that he was covered shoulders down in illusory bread.

A large shadow loomed over him. A massive pigeon swooped down and tried to bite the illusion. "Quick! Grab on! The baby created that pigeon by accident when it was panicking, so I tricked it over here with the bread!" Shizuka dynamically threw her arm forward and did a thumbs up.

Mello climbed up the neck and sat down on the bird's back. He used his new Pale Sunday to move it over to Gloria and Agnetha. Mello jumped down, and Gloria pushed the baby into his arms. It's face had turned red, and it was dangerously cold.

Mello erased the baby's pain, and hugged her tight. He was so focused on helping the baby that he didn't notice a massive tree riding the waves towards him. "Look out!" Shizuka's scream was the last thing he heard before he was smashed down into the black water, together with the baby.

The light of the surface was swallowed by the cosmically dark water. He had Pale Sunday keep the baby from opening its mouth so that it wouldn't swallow water. "Goddamn, goddamn, goddamn. What should I do? I can't… focus..tired…" It felt as if his entire head was filled with cotton, and he couldn't form a single cohesive thought.

His life started flashing before his eyes. Playing with his siblings when his family lived out in the countryside, his parent's explaining the family's proud history of doctors, the community college that he had to attend because his family was too proud to charge their clients, his internship at a hospital, miraculously saving a child's spine...

"Wait! That's it!" Mello's sudden realization cut through the darkness and made everything crystal clear. "That's how Sunday works. They are mobile clusters of nerves, absorbing the brain's electric signals and forcing them into other bodies. Bloody Sunday absorbs the electric signal of pain, but Pale Sunday absorbs the limb's signals to move! And if I can use that on myself…" He looked down at the scared Agnetha. "I can save her."

Four Pale Sundays appeared from his limbs and grabbed Agnetha. Mello's body went completely limp, while Agnetha's body started to swim. She had no idea of what she was doing, but the Sunday's forced her body to move in this unknown way. Mello was so focused on managing his ability that he was unable to swim himself.

After thirty seconds Agnetha managed to get close enough to the surface that Shizuka noticed her, and could use Achtung to pull her up. Gloria screamed, still standing on the giant bag, "Agnetha isn't old enough to control her power and turn things small again! We need someone to dive down there and save him!"

Shizuka shrugged. While it looked like a coldhearted uninterest in her friend's life, it was actually a sign of respect. Mello valued other people's life higher than his own, but he also knew that he couldn't keep protecting people if he didn't care for himself.

A Bloody Sunday climbed out of Agnetha's diaper, and Shizuka (being careful not to touch it) used her illusions to give it the face of Mickey Mouse. Agnetha was still scared and hurt, but even so, the familiar face of the mascot got her attention. She immediately turned it the size of a human, and it fell down into the cold water.

Everything around Mello was as black as oil, the cold water stung his skin and the lack of oxygen made him unable to move. But still, together with assistance from Shizuka's light, the Bloody Sunday could navigate through the water down to him.

It grabbed it's master and pushed his limp body up to the surface, where he took a massive, life-saving breath, filling his lungs to the absolute limit. Before doing anything else he threw his Pale Sunday up to Agnetha.

It landed on Agnetha's head, and sent the order to relax out into every cell of her body. It didn't take long for her to fall into a deep sleep after the toll that the life-or-death-struggle had taken on her. Shortly after the water that had flooded the park seemingly vaporized into nothing in less than a second.

The bag Shizuka had created also turned back to normal size, and Gloria fell straight down into the water. After being saved, she grasped her baby and started to gently swing it back and forth, lulling it into an even deeper nap, before turning to Shizuka and Mello.

"Word's can't possibly explain the gratitude I'm feeling right now. I beg you, take my money." Her eyes were brimming with tears. "I refuse. I am a doctor, saving people is my job."

After taking goodbye, they found and made sure that Suzie was still okay (luckily her giant dress had been inflated by water and she had floated around safely), they made their way out of Central Park to go get lunch somewhere else.

Mello suddenly felt something in his pocket. He checked, and found ten one hundred dollar bills in his pocket. Mello sighed. " Goddamn it! But, I guess that it would be rude to give them back now." Shizuka smiled. It was actually just a few receipts from Gloria's pocket, covered in a thin layer of illusion. But it was best that Mello didn't know.
