Hey, I'm back. Sorry it took so long. First I was too tired to write, then I forgot about it, then I didn't know what to write and then I kept procrastinating. But here's chapter 3, not exactly the way I had planned but hey everything can't be perfect, can it? Sorry for all mistakes and grammar errors, I don't have a beta and English is my second language. Enjoy.
Oh I keep forgetting. Thank you so much to everyone who commented, followed or favorited. I appreciate it soooooo much. And to all those who read without commenting, thank you for reading.
"I go find him." Jason said, after Ray and Trent finally managed to get Sonny off of their team leader.
"No," Ray's voice was sharp and cold as he turned toward his friend. "we got this, go check on Brock, we find the kid"
Jason wanted to argue, but one look at his brothers faces, told him that was a bad idea. He might be their Master chief, brother and the one they had know the longest, but Clay was their kid brother. A kid brother Jason had just hit. They weren't gonna let him near the kid before both of them had fully calmed down. So without a word he left the room, slamming the door shut behind him. Walking across the sleeping base to the infirmary.
Considering the late hour Jason opted not to knock, hoping Brock was getting some sleep. The man needed it, but most of all Jason just didn't want to face him. Didn't want to be the one to tell Brock what he had done. Didn't want to see the betrayal, hurt, disappointment, anger and disgust in his face too.
Silently entering the room he saw that he had been beat to it. Curled up against a sleeping Brock was Clay, just like his older brother he was sleeping too.
Jason reached for his cell to text Ray the location of their kid. Coming to a halt when Bravo six stirred in his sleep.
Jason took a few steps closer to the bed, coming up on the younger mans side. He looked down at the Kid, a small almost peaceful smile curling his lips.
He took in his youngest members demeanor, Clay's long lashes, the messy curls, how his expression was twisted into a confused frown, like he was trying to figure something out in his sleep, his hands were holding onto Brock's shirt like it was the only thing that could save his life. But what made the smile on Jason's face flutter and wither away, was Clay's right cheek, it was still red.
As Jason looked Clay over, he couldn't help but to think back to what had been the reason for his quarrel with the Kid.
"Seems pretty empty to me." Said Ray, eyes scanning the room through his scope.
"Yeah, if that baddie human traffickerthingy Mandys talking about ever where here he's vamoosed." Sonny popped his head in through the door to the small cabin.
"HAVOC this is Bravo one, targets not here."
"You sure?" Mandy's voice sounded over their comes.
"Yes we're sure." Trent answered before Jason got the chance.
"Completely sure? My sources says he's there."
"Yes Mandy we're sure. It's a one room hut, not much to miss."Answered Ray.
"Copy that Bravo two." Blackburn cut in before it enveloped into a bigger argument.
Jason looked around the cabin. It was one story, one room, one entrance/exit, three small windows, one at the south side, one at the east and the last on the west side of the hut. Inside was a rough wooden table, three chairs, a bed, a stove and pretty much nothing else.
He looked at Sonny and Brock standing outside keeping watch. They'd agreed to leave the dog at base, too hot or something like that. Jason regretted that right now, it would have been nice to have Cerberus look the place over.
Ray was standing beside him checking out the table and bed, while Trent glanced at the stove, before he moved on to checking the wooden floor for hidden hatches and tunnels.
Clay was standing before the north wall, the only one without a window. Jason could see the wheels spin in his rookie's head, his face scrunched up like he was seeing something his mind couldn't really register. Jason walked up behind Clay, intending to try and help him figure out what. But before he got the chance to say anything, their comes crackled to life and Lisa's voice was heard.
"HAVOC to all Bravo call signs, you're about to get company. Forty or so fighting age males approaching on foot at the east side hill. They appear to be armed."
"Is the target with them." Asked Jason.
"No don't seem so."
"How far out."
"Five mikes or so."
"Copy that HAVOC. We're leaving now. No reason to stick around any longer." Jason gave his men the signal to roundup. "Come on Kid."
With a tap on Bravo six's shoulder, Jason followed Ray and Trent out of the cabin. Making sure the Kid was behind him, he entered the humvee.
The moment everybody was in, Trent started the vehicle. He only got a meter or so before Clay yelled out.
"STOP. Trent stop the car."
Trent immediately hit the brakes, thinking he had missed something life threatening. Before anyone could ask Clay what he was doing, their Kid flew out the door and ran back into the cabin. Leaving his brothers starring dumb after him.
"Bravo one, HAVOC here. What the hell is going on?" Came Blackburn's voice over the radio.
They exited the humvee.
"Bravo one to HAVOC, hold on I'm not quite sure."
Before Jason got a chance to find out what exactly his rookie was thinking, their five minutes where up and gunshots was heard. Leaving them with no choice but to duck for cover. Crunching behind the hood of the car, Jason and Sonny returned fire. Ray and Trent seeking cover at the rear. Jason glanced towards the door, just in time to see Brock run into the hut.
"Boss we're kinda outnumbered here." Trent said.
"Never would have guessed that." Mumbled Jason before keying in his radio. "Bravo one here requesting air support."
"Copy One, air support seven mikes out."
"Bravo five what is going on in there?" Asked Ray through coms.
"Six found a hidden tunnel. It's leading to a room underground."
"Forget the room. Grab Six and get the hell outta there." Jason ordered.
"Understood."
The guys continued to return fire. A minute or so went by, before Jason heard footsteps coming from the cabin. The muffled sound of Clays protests where heard. Through the south side window Clay came into Jason's view.
"RPG INCOMING" Trent yelled and then everything happened at once.
Eyes fixated on his youngest subordinate, Jason saw how Brock pushed Clay hard in the back and out the door. Clay hit the ground a couple of steps away, just as the cabin was hit. The walls came tumbling down over Bravo five, at the same time as air support arrived and attacked the enemy tangos.
Bravo was at their brothers' sides, immediately. Sonny helping Clay up and checking him over as, Jason, Ray and Trent started digging after Brock.
Clay started to make his way to the others, intending to help.
"Bravo three, get Six in the humvee and make sure he stays there." Jason ordered sharply, with an angry glare at Clay. Trent and Ray finally locating Brock.
Jason was dragged out of his memories, when he felt something in the room change. Looking up he found Brock's intense brown eyes watching him.
Locking eyes with his team leader Brock began to talk. "It wasn't his fault Jace."
"I know." Jason dragged a hand over his face.
"You can never do this again, ever."
"I know."
Brock's gaze intensified. "I don't wanna hurt you, boss, but if you ever do this again..."
"I know that too." Jason said, not needing to hear the end of that sentence to understand it's meaning. "Sonny's said the same."
Brock nodded. Then looked down at the young man, sleeping in his lap.
"We can't afford to hurt him like that, Jace."
"Trust me Brock, if I could I would give anything to go back and change it. I swear."
"I know"
They both watched Clay for a while, in silence. Both men knowing they understood each other. Bravo five knew Jason never had intended to slap their rookie and that there was gonna go a long time, before he forgave himself for it. And Bravo one knew that if anything like that ever happened again, Brock would personally beat him up. Just like the rest of his brothers.
Pulling out his phone, Jason finally sent a text to Ray. Running a hand through the Kid's hair, Jason wished Brock sweet dreams and left. Intending for once in his life to get some sleep, knowing the rest of Bravo soon would come to check on Six and Five.
Shows out I'm not good at writing action scenes either. Hope this was somewhat satisfying. And don't worry I intend to make at least one more chapter. If I haven't updated before Friday 10.Dec. I've probably forgotten all about the fic, in that case feel free to PM me, sometimes it helps to remind me I was writing something. Thanks for reading. ;)
(Edit sorry if it says I've published more then 3 chapters, I had some trouble with updating.)
