Harry's POV
The three of us entered the next room. Above us were many flying birds but I was mistaken. The winged objects were flying keys and one of them fit the door ahead. While Ron and Hermione went to the door I eyed the broomstick in front of me. Ron tried using "Alohomora" but the door didn't budge.
Hermione growled in frustration and I didn't blame her since there were thousands of keys above us. Ron eyed the door handle for a moment before informing us of his findings.
"We're looking for an old fashioned one probably silver like the handle"
I looked above me once more and I spotted the key in question. One of it's tiny wings was broken and I looked at the broomstick again. It then hit me and with Ron's encouragement I grabbed the broom. No sooner had I did the flying keys above swoop down and began to dive-bomb me. I got onto the broom and took off. I endured the other keys constantly getting in my face but my attention never left the key with the broken wing.
I maneuvered around the room and successfully grabbed the key and I flew back towards the ground. With a toss Hermione caught the key and began to work on the door. I made another loop around the room before using the broom to enter the next one. The sounds of many keys hitting the door could be heard.
"Nice work Harry" Hermione praised me.
I shot her a smile before I got off of the broom. A short walk later we arrived in the next room. I had a bad feeling about this.
"Bloody hell it's a chess board"
Sure enough as soon as the room was lit up Ron's assumptions were right. It was a giant chessboard with giant chess pieces. The door was behind the white chess pieces and we tried to approach it but the white pawns came to life blocking our path.
"We have to play our way across the room" Ron explained.
Three black chess pieces left the board and the three of us is took the places of a bishop, knight, and rook. White moved first and a white pawn made the first move. Ron had a black pawn move and as soon as it stopped the white pawn destroyed it.
The game continued and it was brutal. But thanks to Ron's guidance we had a chance. Now we were even with white. The white queen just finished with dealing with a black rook. Ron looked around for a minute and then I saw what he was about to do.
"No Ron no!" I protested.
"What is it?" Hermione demanded.
"He's gonna sacrifice himself!" I answered Hermione.
Hermione protested in the same manner and Ron yelled back at her.
"Do you wanna stop Snape from stealing that stone or not?!"
My best friend then looked to me.
"Harry it's you that has to go on I know it, not me, not Hermione, you"
All I could do was nod and the red head did the same before making his move. His knight moved forward and eventually came to a stop close to the king forming a check. Slowly the white queen turned. She then moved in Ron's direction just watching her do so made my heart beat like crazy.
Eventually the white queen stopped in front of Ron before she took out her sword and slammed it into Ron's knight. Ron fell off and he fell onto the marble floor hard. I shouted his name and Hermione was about to rush towards him but I told her wait. I then proceeded to the white king and stopped in front of him.
"Checkmate!"
The white king's sword fell and it landed at my feet with a thud. With the game won Hermione and I rushed to Ron. He was alright thank goodness but he'd probably have a bad headache later.
"I'll stay with him go on Harry" Hermione stated.
"Are you sure?"
She nodded then looked to Ron. Saying I would see her and Ron later I got up and went ahead to the door. The next obstacle would have been a mountain troll but the ugly thing was knocked out. It was also bigger than the one I faced with Ron and Hermione.
The following room was a simple one. At the center was a table with seven bottles on it. Suddenly purple flames appeared behind me while black flames did the same in front blocking the door I needed to go through. I noticed a piece of parchment and I picked it up to read the contents. According to the passage one of these bottles was what I needed to get through the door. Another was to get through the purple flames and into the room with the chessboard.
Three of these bottles were poison and two were wine. This was a simple puzzle and I needed to think hard to make the right choice. I reread the passage a few more times and did the same with the bottles. Eventually I figured it out and I picked up the smallest bottle amongst the group. The contents inside was enough for one person. I uncorked the bottle and drank the potion. It felt like ice was in my body but I endured being uncomfortable and successfully went through the black flames.
I took a breath before opening the door and made my way into the next room.
