The next day, the group met outside the palace where three carriages were waiting for them. Atem, Heba, Yami, and Yugi would be riding in one carriage, Bakura, Ryou, Marik and Malik would be riding in another carriage, and Joey and Seto would be riding in another carriage with two guards who were accompanying the group on their trip.
"Be safe," Amara said as she hugged each of her sons with a smile on her face. "And have fun," she said turning to Heba and Yugi and hugging the pair.
"We will," Atem said with a nod.
"Try not to have too much fun," Aknamkanon said with a smile. "And try to not make too much trouble."
"Will do," Yami said with a nod.
The group headed into their carriages and Amara and Akmaknaon waved them off as they headed off.
By the time the group arrived, it was around lunchtime.
Everyone got settled into their rooms while the servants at the cabin got started on making lunch for the group before they headed off to the waterfalls.
Atem and Heba were in one room, Yami and Yugi were in one room, Joey and Seto in another, Bakura and Ryou in another, and Marik and Malik were in another room.
After lunch, the group decided to head out. One guard was leading the group up the mountain while the other was following behind the group, keeping his guard up.
Atem and Heba shared a smile as they heard Yugi and Yami talking about the book Yugi had just finished reading, Atem caught a glimpse of how Yami was staring at Yugi and gave Heba a knowing look which Heba returned with a soft giggle.
By the time they reached the head of the mountain, they could hear the crashing of the waterfalls.
"Wow," Yugi said with wide eyes as they approached the waterfalls. They weren't as big as the ones back home but they were still amazing to look at.
"They're incredible," Ryou said with a smile.
"No wonder you proposed here," Malik said turning to Atem with a smile. "They must be beautiful at night."
"They are," Heba said with a soft nod, leaning against Atem. "We were staying the weekend here and he brought me up here one night and proposed."
Yami turned from where he was standing and felt his heart race seeing Yugi's smile and wide eyes filled with amazement. His talk with Atem a few days ago had helped open his eyes and he had come to terms with his feelings for Yugi. However, he wouldn't dare confess them to Yugi, they had grown to be good friends with one another and Yami didn't want to ruin that.
That evening, Yugi was sitting outside staring up at the stars. It was a clear night outside and the stars painted the sky in beautiful twinkling lights.
Yami was sitting on one of the couches in the sitting room where he was watching Yugi stand outside. Atem came down the stairs and smiled softly seeing his brother staring longingly at Yugi.
"You know," Atem said walking over, causing Yami to jump softly. "If you keep staring at him, he'll never know how you feel."
"Maybe I'm okay with that," Yami said with a soft sigh, his fingers playing with each other in his lap.
"Are you?" Atem asked sitting beside his brother. "Or are you just saying that?"
The silence from Yami was enough of an answer for him.
"Why not take a chance and tell him?" Atem asked softly placing an arm around Yami's shoulders. "Even if your feelings aren't returned, Yugi's heart is too kind for him to hate you."
With that, Atem gave his brother a squeeze and retreated back upstairs.
Yami let out a soft sigh before looking up to see Yugi was still staring up at the stars.
"Well, here goes nothing," Yami said softly before heading to the door and heading outside, his hands beginning to shake as Yugi turned hearing the door open and close. A smile graced his face as he saw Yami walking towards him.
"Hey," Yugi said.
"Hey," Yami said, returning his smile. "Stargazing?"
"Yeah," Yugi said with a nod, returning his gaze to the stars. "I've always loved the stars, it's strange but I find them comforting."
"It's not strange," Yami said with a shake of his head. "I find the stars comforting as well, they're like nightlights in the sky."
"It looks like we have more in common than we thought," Yugi said with a smile.
"Yeah," Yami said with a nod. He could feel his heart racing, words tried to make their way out of his mouth but they got stuck in his throat. Atem's words echoed in his head as he stared at Yugi.
'Why not take a chance and tell him?'
Yami let out a soft sigh before turning to Yugi.
"Yugi," Yami said getting Yugi's attention. "I-I have something to tell you."
"Don't tell me Bakura and Marik got into a fight again," Yugi teased with a laugh.
"No, they didn't," Yami said with a soft chuckle. Yugi must have seen how Yami was struggling to say what he needed because the next thing Yami knew Yugi had pulled Yami's hands into his own and squeezed softly.
"Whatever it is, you can tell me," Yugi said with a gentle smile.
"Right," Yami said with a nod. "Well, the thing is, I…" Yami trailed off as he stared up into Yugi's eyes who were watching him patiently waiting for him to say whatever he needed to. "I…love…you."
Yugi's eyes widened and shock littered his face. Yami's heart started racing and he started to internally panic more than he already was. Yami pulled his hands out of Yugi's and started to back up slowly.
"I-Forget about what I said," Yami said as he turned to ran back into the house and find a dark corner to hide in. Maybe he could convince Heba to switch rooms with him and he can sleep with his brother. Or maybe he could ask to sleep in the servant's room tonight, he's sure they wouldn't mind.
"Wait!"
Yami was brought out of his thoughts when a hand grabbed his wrist and spun his back around. Yami turned with wide eyes to see Yugi's panicked look on his face, his cheeks blushing.
"Don't go," Yugi whispered softly. "I…I love you to."
Yami's eyes widened and he felt his breath hitch in his throat.
"You what?"
"I love you to," Yugi repeated staring into Yami's eyes. "Ever since the first day I arrived here and saw you, I couldn't explain it at the time but now I realize why I was feeling what I felt."
Yami was silent as he listened to Yugi, his heart racing a million miles an hour and was refusing to calm down. He silently wondered if what he was hearing was a dream and he would wake up tomorrow and everything would be the same as it always was.
"My mother used to tell me about the fairytales and love at first sight," Yugi said as Yami averted his eyes, staring at the hand which held Yami's wrist in it. Yugi let go of his wrist and instead grabbed onto his hands. "And I think that's what I felt with you, I love you Yami."
Yami's head lifted and his eyes widened. Yugi took the opportunity to lift himself up onto his tiptoes and gently kiss Yami. Yami couldn't shake the shock and Yugi pulled back. However, before Yami could stop himself, he pulled his hands out of Yugi's and placed them on either side of Yugi's head and lean down, connecting their lips in a kiss.
They were lost in their own world. Their hearts beating a million miles an hour, warmth washing over them both despite the chill in the air. They didn't notice the other had gathered outside until they heard Bakura and Marik wolf-whistling behind them.
"Took you guys long enough," Bakura said with a roll of his eyes. However, his smirk faltered when Ryou elbowed him in the stomach.
The group burst out laughing and Yugi and Yami turned to each other with a smile. Yami was glad he had listened to his brother, things were going to be okay from now on. He doesn't know how he knows that but he can feel it.
A day later, they returned back to the palace.
Almost immediately, Amara could see a difference in Yami. He didn't look like he was carrying a burden on his shoulders anymore. Seeing how Yami and Yugi were acting towards one another, she knew why.
She knew Yami had grown to have a crush on Yugi since he arrived in Egypt and she could also see Yugi was the same way. Her theory was proven right when Yugi and Yami approached her and explained to her they were in a relationship together.
A smile graced her face and she drew her son into a tight hug, her heart swelling at the fact that Yami had found someone to be with. Someone he could trust with his heart. She then pulled Yugi into a hug and congratulated the two.
Aknamkanon was also pleased with the news and turned to Atem and Heba with a knowing look.
"Is that why you two planned to go to the falls?" he asked with a smirk.
"Part of it," Atem said with a smile. "It was also nice to see them again and share it with our friends."
"Well, I'm glad you found a way to make Yami happy again," Aknamkanon said turning to Yugi and Yami who were talking with their friends, their hands intertwined. "Especially after what happened."
"Yes," Atem said with a nod. "He deserves to be happy."
