It's been two days since me and Bella had that little tiff about her and her jumping into a fire and we've avoided each other to the extreme. We hunt at separate times and get different rides to school if you're me or if you're Bella, just ditch it completely.

A knock comes at my bedroom door when the others come back from hunting and fooling around. I open it and see Carlisle standing there. I sigh, frustrated. "If you're here to get me to talk to Bella, then it's a waste of time." Carlisle chuckles before entering my room. "Jazz, I understand your frustration towards Bella, trust me, I've been there with Esme." I look at my adopted father.

"Wh..what do you mean you went through this with Esme? Did she want to..to try again?" I ask, stuttering. Carlisle nods. "Unfortunately." Carlisle takes a seat at my desk chair and looks at me. "I'm going to tell you Esme's story, I know you've heard some of it but you need to hear the day she tried setting herself on fire." This must be hurting him, telling me how my mother and his wife almost committed sucide. "Carlisle, you don't have to tell me." Carlisle shakes his head. "Son, you need to hear this, Esme is telling Bella her version while I tell you mine." He says stubbornly. I nod, reluctantly.

"It was two months after we got married and me and Edward were hunting because Esme was in a mood with me for some reason that I still don't know what for. Edward and I were nearing the house when we smelled Esme, and a fire, we immediately ran to her, she was just about to put her foot into the orange flames when I tackled her and pinned her to the ground, Edward putting out the fire. Esme was like a ferocious hellcat underneath me, clawing at the ground screaming at me to let her die, to let her throw herself into a fire so she wouldn't be a burden to me and Edward. Once Edward had put out the fire, we both carried a thrashing Esme home, where we interrogated her about why she would try to kill herself, well Edward was interrogating her while I attempted to get my anger under control. We learned that a week before our wedding, Esme had been hearing Charles's voice, taunting her, telling her that she didn't deserve to be married to me or didn't deserve to have Edward as a son, he told her that she'd only get Edward killed like she had their son, the day she tried to kill herself, he said that it would be better if she was dead because then me and Edward wouldn't have to put up with a burden like Esme, everything he said to her was complete crap of course but she'd spent so long with him as a human, that she'd believed everything he was telling her as a vampire. The fear I felt when I saw Esme near that fire, her foot almost there, I thought I had died all over again, Jasper, no one deserves to watch their other half kill themselves, it took me and Edward months to convince Esme that everything that Charles had said to her was a complete lie, Bella is scared of going back to Maria and being hurt again, so she's saying anything she can to make sure that she doesn't go back, even if it includes a threat like jumping into a fire but you need to convince that that's not the way to solve her problems." Carlisle tells me. I stand up from my bed, walk over to my father and hug him hard. "Thank you for telling me that, that couldn't have been easy for you." Carlisle pulls away from me and stares at me. "It wasn't easy, why do you think I won't allow fires in the fireplaces?" He asks rhetorically, shooting me a smile. I chuckle and shake my head before zooming down into the living room where Bella and Esme are.

I pin Bella gently against the wall and kiss her lips, she kisses me back instantly.

"We can get through this together, Bella. Whatever she throws at us, we'll face it together because it's us, always and forever."

"Always and forever."
