Lucas let a sigh of relief as he arrived at Jubilife City the largest city in the Sinnoh region, as well as the most modernized of them as well. The city was full of people heading to their next destination or just sitting down eating lunch.
"Wow almost forgot how big Jubilife city was," Lucas said as he views the sights. He smiled as he saw children battling at the trainer school.
"Cute kids learning how to be Pokemon trainers," He said watching the kids a little bit longer. "Through I think going on a real journey more fun. Then being able to enter the league just by passing your classes."
Lucas blushed as his stomach growl signaling it was time to eat something.
'Well since I made it to Jubilife let's find something to eat," He said looking around for a good place to eat. "Then give Professor Rowan a call letting him know I made it to Jubilife."
Lucas looked at the schoolyard one last time as walked through the streets of Jubilife City. When he was suddenly a man stops from walking any farther.
"You call yourself a trainer? And yet you don't have a Poketech?" The man asked standing in front of Lucas. "That is short for Pokemon watch."
"Yeah, I know what a Poketech is mister," Lucas said.
"Well not only then did I invent the Poketech, but conducting a promotional campaign! All you have to do is find three clowns, and you can get one free."
"Thanks, sir but maybe later. Right now, just in the mood for lunch," Lucas said, walking past the guy for now.
After few minutes he arrived at a mall located in the shopping district. He entered through the automatic double door. The mall was enormous.
Glancing around Lucas took note that he had entered through the food court, which Is what he was aiming for. He could smell the burgers coming from Chamander's Grill as well as the scent of Magikarp's Seafood Shack.
Lucas then walked over to Chamander's grill and got straight in line. Waiting for his order to be taking by the person behind the counter.
Meanwhile, a set of purple eyes was observing him intently. The eyes belonged to a fair skin young girl with long purple hair pulled back in a ponytail. She was wearing a short sleeve pink shirt, with a white jacket, with some blue shorts. She had brown boots to top off the ensemble.
"What do we got here," Leda muttered to herself pushing hair out her face. While she watched Lucas walk over to a table with a tray with a burger, fries, and a medium milkshake.
'From the looks of it seems like we got ourselves, trainer. He is definitely nothing like those school kids, and he seems familiar like seen that face or at least that hat.'
Leda study Lucas, admiring his slightly muscular body, his short black under his hat, and his sharp silver eyes. There was an intelligence and fiery passion hidden in them that she couldn't help but notice. It was as if he had a powerful set of confidence. Just by the way he was sitting.
'This boy is quite interesting. Don't know who this boy is, but he might be a fun opponent.' Leda thought as she chewed a piece of her crab from Magikarp's Seafood Shack.
After making up her mind, she pushed herself up and picked up traying dumping away her trash. Before walking over to Lucas while zipping up her new jacket she got from the mall.
Reaching the table she stopped and clear her throat to get Lucas's attention. Lucas turned and looked right up at Leda.
"Can I help you?" Lucas asked politely, though surprised by the stranger's presence.
"Perhaps. My apologies for bothering you, but do you mind telling me your name?" Leda asked as she looked at Lucas who was slipping his milkshake.
Lucas looked back up from his milkshake and gulped as eyes trailed up from her curvy hips, and to her face that had a smirk on it.
"My name is Lucas Diamond, is there something I can help you with?" Lucas asked casually, hiding the fact he just checked her out.
"You know it would be interesting to battle you," She said with her arms crossed. "After all you must be skill being Professor Rowan battle-ready assistant," She grinned.
"Well, I guess people do call me that because of my sharp mind," Lucas said with a shrugged. "So taking that as you challenging me to a battle?" He asked.
"Yes how about we have a one-on-one? I have a Pokemon I want to get some training in with," Leda stated.
"Fine with me. I also have a new partner I'm eager to train," Lucas mentioned grabbing his empty milkshake cup to throw it away.
"Perfect. We can meet in the back of the pokemon center. There is a nice open battlefield we can use for our battle," Leda started walking over to her seat to grab her backpack. "I will be expecting you to show up," she called back, walking off with a sway.
"Well, that was interesting. I kind of feel like she asking for a date, not a battle," Lucas muttered confused about what just happened.
Lucas threw his cup away and walked out of the mall. Eventually, he made his way to the battlefield behind the Pokemon center. After stopping to talk to the clowns to get three coupons to get a free Poketech.
Waiting on the other side of the battlefield, was the girl from the food court. As he approached a smirk made its way on her face.
"Excellent you came Lucas," She said reaching for a Pokeball at her side and snapping it off. "Let's begin!"
Sparks of lightning collided as Leda and Lucas met each other gaze.
Leda held a single Pokeball in her hand spinning it on her finger, before priming it for battle. Lucas snatched Shinx's ball off his belt and enlarged it, signaling that he too was prepared.
"Ladies first," Lucas said with a smile on his face.
"Well thank you," Leda replied tossing the ball with a slight awing of her hip onto the field. "Wormadam time to roll!"
Appearing onto the battlefield was a small was a brown bagworm, with puny black eyes. The creature also had red circles in its belly and brown rocks on the side of its head, with sort of a black entente on the top of its head.
'Huh. I don't have much to counter a ground-type bug. Shinx has ice fang, but that's about it. This match might be fine if it doesn't have a ground move yet.' Lucas thought as he rolled the ball in his hand.
"Shinx your up girl!" Lucas called out sending out his new companion onto the battlefield.
The feline stretched as she immerged on the field. Her bright yellow eyes focused forwards as she spotted Wormadam in front of her. Looking back at her trainer she saw the narrowed expression and realize it was battle time. Turning forward she crouched waiting for her command.
"Wormadam, let's start with Quiver Dance!" Leda commanded.
Woramadam began to slowly move its body around as if it was doing some kind of dance. Lucas narrowed his eyes as he was thinking of a plan to handle this Pokemon.
"Shinx, Iron tail!" Lucas commanded.
"Counter with signal Beam!" Leda shouted.
Shinx charged after Wormadam, coating her tail with a thick metallic coat as she ran. While running, a beam of light lashed out at her, forcing the cub to quickly maneuver out of the way of the beam. Shinx jumped to the left as another aimed at her. She swung her tail in an attempt to land a blow.
Her attempt, however, was foiled as a powerful beam shot her to the ground, causing Shinx to cry out in pain as she hit the ground.
"Rock Blast!" Leda commanded.
"Ice Fang!" Lucas countered quickly.
Opening her jaw, Shinx channeled an icy aura into her fangs jumping out of the way of the rock heading for her, and bit down on Wormadam head, causing it to cry in pain and drop on the ground making it shoot the next rick blast into the sky.
Shinx jumped back getting ready for its next command. Her eyes locked on Wormadam as it got back up from the ground.
"Huh. It seems that he is a skilled trainer. It's no wonder most people who know him as the Professor assistant, would call him battle-ready," Leda muttered to herself as she watched Shinx crouched ready to continue. "Through his Shinx isn't skilled to beat my newly evolved Wormadam."
"Shinx use Ice Fang!" Lucas instructed.
"Not happening," Leda mused. "Double Team! Then Rock Tomb!"
As Shinx neared Wormadam, she rapidly produced multiple images of herself, causing Shinx to skid to a halt. Wormadam was moving faster than you think it would.
"Shinx, use Double Team too!" Lucas shouted.
What seemed like hundreds of rocks shot forth, only to hit the ground as Shinx replicated herself, but wasn't as fast. Wormadam continued her momentum and tossed rock at Shinx until it hit the one that was approaching with Ice Fang.
Shinx slowly got back up, but was panting and barely standing up. She was reaching the end of her rope with this battle.
"Shinx, return!" Lucas said calling back his Shinx into her Pokeball.
Leda then returned Wormadam as well, before placing her ball back to her side. She looked up at Lucas with a smirk.
"I was expecting more that was too easy," Leda sated. "It was a good effort, but that Pokemon still has ways to go."
Lucas attached Shinx ball back to his belt, and looked at Leda with a fire in his eyes. "Shinx still has some training, but next time we meet. We will win," He replied firmly.
"Next time we meet?" She asked more to herself. "Well, you show a lot of promise, and are a great strategist. I like that so I wouldn't mind a second battle," She said smiling at him.
"Well, I will be looking forward to it um," Lucas paused realizing he didn't know her name.
"Name Leda see you next time we meet. Make sure to train hard," She replied as she looked over her shoulder giving him a slight wink, before making her exit and disappearing.
"Wait did she just wink at me? Strange encounter," Lucas said confused as headed inside of the Pokemon center to get his Pokemon heal and make a call to Professor Rowan.
After making a quick call to Professor Rowan, and talking to him for a little while to tell him about his Ice fang Shinx and recent battles. He learned that Dawn just helped save a boy named Ash Pikachu from some evil organization named Team Rocket, and was now on her ready to Jubilife city for the Pokemon contest.
Lucas was laying on a bed in the room he booked at the Pokemon center for the night thinking about his match against Leda, and if he wanted to stay here a little bit longer to watch Dawn in th contest.
So this wraps up the third chapter of Lucas's Pokemon adventure. This was Lucas's first battle against a person you could consider to be his rival.
Anyway, let me know what you think in the comments.
Like always, thanks for reading!
Question of the Chapter: What did you usually name your rival in Pokemon?
For me, I usually named them after my best friend Alexander, who used battle against every day when we hung out after school. Back when we were little kids.
