Fenton Hardy had spent the majority of the day researching Adler Haas. He contacted Philadelphia police stations, old city records offices, and Eastern state penitentiary. He was not impressed by what he saw. The prison reports spoke of Adler as manipulative, violent, and unhinged.
In the early 1930s the prison had been quite lawless, and Adler became highly involved in gambling rings, drug trafficking, and other things a gentleman like Fenton didn't fancy thinking about. Fenton didn't know if Adler Haas was indeed still alive and behind these attacks. But he wasn't going to let his son or any more high schoolers be in danger from him if he was.
He grabbed his coat and left the house. With Laura visiting his sister, Gertrude, there was no one left to answer the phone call from a worried Frank Hardy. The telephone rang unheeded.
Author's note: Sorry about the late posting, I've had a mad case of writers block. I'm working through it. Let me know if anything doesn't make sense, and thank you for your patience!
