James looked at Remus who was meeting his eyes. "What happened? Is my son? Lily? Are they dead?" James asked sitting up in his bed. The doctor looked him over without speaking. James looked at Sirius who let out a breath and nodded to Remus who sat down next on the other side of James's bed.
"Harry's alive," Sirius said running his hand through his hair. James let out a relieved breath and a smile formed on his face however it dropped when he saw sadness in both of his friends' eyes.
"Lily?' James asked knowing the answer, but he had to know. Sirius and Remus dropped their heads and shook them. James let out a small cry. He then buried his head in his hands to hide the tears from his best friends. Remus took a deep breath and brought James into a hug. Sirius joined in a few seconds later.
They sat like this for a long time, but James didn't care. He just wanted all of this to be a dream. He wants to be with his wife. Oh, his wife. James let out a sigh and pulled out of his friend's arms. "When can I see and look after my son?" James asked looking at Remus and Sirius who smiled.
"Soon James. We just need to pick him up," Remus said looking at Sirius who let out a small sigh. James raised an eyebrow and shook his head.
"You mean he's not being looked after by you?" James asked sitting up, but he winched a little. Sirius sighed but he didn't say anything. James shook his head and sat up again. "Well, it doesn't matter right now. Let's just get my son. However, if he is hurt in any way…" James cut off as a healer walking in.
"Hello, Mr. Potter. How are you feeling?" The healer asked looking at Remus. Remus sighed but he didn't say anything. James shared a look with Sirius and shook their heads.
"I'd be better if I had my son," James muttered making the healer laugh a little. The healer pulled out his wand and waved it over James.
"Well, it seems you are in luck Mr. Potter, you can leave this hospital and go pick up your son," James shared another look with Sirius. Sirius fist-pumped the air and laughed. Remus smiled shaking his head.
"Thank you so much," James said slowly getting out of bed. His legs were wobbly as he stood there. However, as he started to walk over to Sirius he almost fell on the hard, clean concrete floor. His eyes closed as he braced himself for the impact, he felt someone's hands holding him up.
"Easy Prongs," Remus's calming voice rang in his ears. James opened his eyes and laughed a little. "Take it easy," Remus added pulling James to his feet. He then kept him up as the healer handed him a small cane.
"You should use this for a few weeks until you get you get used to walking," the healer said handing James the cane. James took it and nodded thanks. He then ran his hands over it and smiled at his friends. "You should also pace yourself with your magic. You will be dragged for a while," James nodded again as the three friends walked out of James's hospital room.
A few months later
Harry Potter didn't like school all that much. Sure, he got to learn but the new seven-year-old hate that no none, not a single person in the school. Not even the teachers saw him or cared for him. Harry let out a breath as he sat in his classroom. He wasn't listening to the teacher as he talked about homework for the day. Harry was too busy watching his cousin who was laughing with his friends. Harry knew that Dudley was going to "Play with him "as soon as the bell rings. Harry let out a small winch when his stomach growled. He hasn't eaten at all today. Harry closed his eyes when he heard the bell.
"Don't forget to get that down before Friday," the teacher called as Harry waited for everyone to leave the room before he could gather what little things he had. Once everyone was gone Harry picked up his things and slowly walked out of the room. Harry let out a sigh of relief once he got out of the school. However, this was short-lived when he heard Dudley laugh behind him.
"Hello, Potter," Dudley sing- songed. Harry didn't turn around as he felt Dudley's hand on his arm. "Let's play Potter," Dudley said with a laugh. Harry shook Dudley's hand away before he took off in a run.
