Chapter Six
Allie's Diary - Surprises
Dear Diary,
There has been so much happening. This day could not have been better. I am beyond excited.
Good news. I may have already told you dear diary. Uncle Nathan was offered another job position as Sheriff here in Hope Valley. Since Hope Valley is growing so much and because Judge Avery's old position as Sheriff had never been filled, the town voted to go ahead and fill that position. It still might require that he go out of town on occasion. I'm older now and have plenty of people I could stay with if and when he may be gone.
We happily accepted the offer…well he accepted the offer but I was happy too. He said he was taking some time off from work first though. Tomorrow we are heading to Hamilton. He's taking me shopping in the big city so we can both buy some new clothes before he starts the job and before school starts. I am so excited about that plus I get to ride the train again!
When we go shopping, I'm going to buy me the most colorful, modern clothes. Uncle Nathan is going to need some help picking out some new clothes. That's where I come in. Allie to the rescue! He is so accustomed to wearing his serge at work but he won't be wearing it anymore. Either I help him pick out new clothes or heaven forbid he might have to go around wearing rags or worse yet buck naked. Oh perish that thought. I think he might even be due for some new suspenders. I'm going to make him buy purple suspenders. Well, maybe not. Blue suspenders would match his blue eyes. He does needs a new look. Maybe I will talk him into getting a new fancy haircut. Me too, by the way.
Just one more note. Mrs. Thornton had apparently decided to date Mr. Bouchard for real a couple of months ago. Uncle Nathan has not said much about it but he did tell me that people have to make their own decisions and it is not for us to judge. She's been gone to Hamilton to visit with her parents so they can spend time with Little Jack. Mr. Bouchard was suppose to go visit his family…apparently his parents are quite the travelers. For some reason, Mr. Bouchard has not left town yet. I am surprised…well not really.
I don't talk about Mrs. Thornton to Uncle Nathan because I can tell it still bothers him. I do hear a few things being said from just listening to the adults talk around town. They aren't that subtle. Funny though, now it seems all the single women in Hope Valley are flirting with him. He denies it but I see it. It's fun to watch.
I will write more after we go shopping. I did ask Uncle Nathan why we are going to Hamilton to shop. I knew it is the same place went to visit her family but I was not bringing that subject up. He said it was because there was something he wanted to buy and Hamilton had more options. I asked him what it was but typical of Uncle Nathan, he just grinned and said I would find out soon enough. Now I am doubly excited. I love surprises.
Oh and by the way, earlier this afternoon we, well me, Robert and Laura, went fishing and caught quite a few fish. Opal went with us for support since she doesn't like to fish. We took the catch over to the Culverson's to see if they wanted them and they were most gracious about taking the fish. They are such nice people but I think they struggle with getting enough food. It just seems that way sometimes. I will check on them when we get back from Hamilton.
Allie
