For months morgana had been meeting Morgause in the same spot out in the forest and it seemed her sister always knew when she was approaching, because she would always be there waiting whenever morgana wanted and made the efforts to see Morgause. This time was no different she was glad to say and she threw herself from her horse to run into her embrace like a frightened child who needed to the strength of an adult.
"Morgause! I've done something terrible."
She stroked morgana's head as her sister clung desperately to her. Even considering the circumstances, she loved that she was needed by someone at last and had come to rely on morgana for such devotion.
"I know… I felt it as the poison entered her bloodstream."
It had been the same when the servant boy had poisoned morgana. Their bond made it so she picked up on when her sisters were in danger and though she had severed the connection for Elaina to reach out to her, Morgause still could feel her on the other end of their tether.
The poison morgana had used she must have taken from Morgause's private collection when she was training her for that year. She had yet to perfect it as something she had stumbled upon in one of diaries from another high priestess, yet the ingredients had been nasty enough that she wouldn't like to know what its full power would do, by what Elaina was already enduring.
"What do we do…she's still our sister."
Morgause felt disappointed in morgana for going behind her back because they agreed to work together in everything. Had she told her of this plan, Morgause would not have approved as there was too much risk in failure, as it has already proved. Now the cost of morgana's mistake was heavy blow indeed.
However, if Morgause looked at this mistake strategically, then Elaina was one of Camelot's greatest allies, whether the kingdom was aware of that fact or not since she has purposefully stood in morgause's way from the moment they met and has not been shy in remaining to be a stone wall, blocking her path to what she wanted to accomplish. It pained her greatly, no matter how their relationship has been strained to admit it, but Morgause was accepting of Elaina's circumstance and she needed morgana to see it that way also.
"she is not on our side among all of this morgana. She is too far gone in the ways of Arthur and the preservation of Camelot… in the old religion when a sister proved weak, then they were cast out or…"
She didn't finish the sentence, she didn't have to because morgana had jumped to the conclusion and began shaking in her arms, blinking away the tears she didn't want to shed in front of Morgause unless she too saw her as weak and she tried so hard to imitate and draw upon her sister's strength and power.
"Perhaps this was how it was meant to be."
She remembered when Elaina had visited her in the guest chambers. It felt so long ago now and was the last time she had actually seen her face to face. Morgause had been so taken by her loveliness and the bravery of Elaina's openness to confront her without masquerading her intentions, even if Morgause did not approve. She at least respected Elaina for that strength to stand by her beliefs and found in her a worthy opponent in that sense. If it was by morgana's hand that she meets her end and not Morgause's, then selfishly she had to admit it to herself that she was actually glad for it, because it made the decision to allow the poison to run its course easier.
Although poor morgana, She would not understand this and she cried out in protest as she would now be living with the guilt instead.
"Morgause!"
Solemnly, she gave this lasting statement before she disappeared to wait out Elaina's death.
"I've said my piece. I know you might not think it, but I feel for her as you do... Our beautiful Elaina."
