Toothless did not know what to think when the human spoke. Nor did he know whom these 'Sashi' and 'Anne' characters were. But what he did know was that this human was not herself at the moment. Must be from all the time she was in the tank.
The Night Fury lowered his head, sniffing the human's body with heavy interest. For a human that came from a tank she smelt pretty good. Was there something in the tank that perfumed her scent?
Yet before he could further examine her, the human wrapped her arms around his face and pulled him closer to her small brown eyes. Naturally he would shove her away from him and snarl in defense, yet his fascination of this human female stayed his hand.
"And who just might you be?" she asked, rubbing the sides of his scaly head with her fingertips. "Aren't just the cutest. Aren't you-"
Then without a second thought, the human fell face first to the ground without any awareness. Only to lift her head back up saying,
"I'm okay."
Toothless huffed in amusement. And a small smile crept on his face. There was something about this human that he really liked. Almost reminding him once again of his best friend. Who was just as clumsy as this one. It enlightened him to the fact that he barely just met this human and already found her amusing. But then that moment of glee was interrupted when his right ear twitched. He has heard something. The Night Fury spun towards the entrance and bared his fangs. Growling eagerly to see the disturbance. Yet there was nothing. Just the emptiness of the room itself with only him and the human being the only ones present. Yet Toothless knew better. They were definitely being watched. He turned his head to the other side of the room and saw nothing too.
He did not who it was or where it was, but he detested that they were not alone. And came down to one conclusion: they could not stay here. So he turned back to the human and nudged the side of her torso with his head. Urging to climb up on her feet so they could make their escape. It took her a moment to regain her balance, though she ended up holding onto Toothless's shoulder for support. Not that the Night Fury minded.
By then they were already making their way towards the exit. Yet something concurred to Toothless that they were not alone. But thought it best that they not wait around to find out.
Nearly halfway towards the front entrance, another sound went off in the room. Causing Toothless to stop and look around yet again. Something was not right. His eyes scanned the room once more. Trying to detect whatever it was that was disturbing his mission. Though by the time he was able to turn his attention back to the human, he noticed something from the wall to the right of the room. Which had a bright orange circle, something similar to the symbol of the entrance of the door. The Night Fury growled at it, not trusting anything about it. Yet before he could do anything, more circles started popping out from that particular wall.
And to make things worse, all the eyes focused on them two and fired beams that had no effect on them. But even then it was as the King of Dragons suspected: this was a trap. As quickly as he could, Toothless grabbed the girl by the scruff of her neck and made a break for the door. Upon grabbing her, the girl yelped before saying.
"Hey! Watch it!"
Normally he would take the time to apologize, but now his main focus was on escaping. They were five feet from the door before a storm of sand stopped them dead in their tracks. The Night Fury crouched low, with his maw glowing a light purple, ready to fight if he must. Although it did not come to that, because before anything could happen in that moment, both human and dragon were temporary blinded by a huge white light. Causing the Night Fury to drop the girl and covered his eyes with his right wing. Before everything went quiet all of a sudden.
They took a moment to regain their senses before noticing that they were not in the room anymore.
"Wow," the girl said dimly. "We're outside already?"
Though it relieved the King of Dragons that they were not in the same position as they were, there was something all to familiar to him about this place. For which was covered with dense forest along with huge houses that stretched for miles. Than it occurred to him that this was indeed that familiar place he had been to many years ago.
This was Berk. Or at least the New Berk that he and his best friend settled to in their attempt to hide for that obnoxious Grimmel and his Warlords. Yet what threw the Night Fury off even more was the cries of battle that could be heard from a distance. The roars of man and dragon tearing each other to pieces filled the very air of this once remembered place. Above him, he could see familiar dragons soaring up as they bombarded human huts with dragon fire. Some of them were too familiar.
But it couldn't be. He and all the other dragons left their human partners ages ago and made their home in the Hidden here he was at this very moment. Though before he could ponder himself with more questions, a loud familiar scream sounded off to his right. When he looked, he was totally thrown off guard when he laid eyes on no other than his best friend and trusted partner: Hiccup Haddock. Who stood defensively as he shielded his wife, Astrid, and their two kids as dragons continued to swarm the forest.
How was this possible? He remembered leaving Hiccup for the Hidden World all those years ago, and only visited him when his kids foolishly went to the island despite his and his mate's wishes. There had to be some explanation as to why they are here now, with dragons attacking without his command. Though to his surprise, the human girl took a moment to notice something very peculiar about the place. And before long she finally spoke.
"Oh," she came to realize with a giggle. "This is a projection."
Toothless turned back at her and raised his eyebrow. Almost questioning what she was implying.
"You know, like a VR," she said with a snap of her finger.
The Night Fury tilted his head. Slightly confused with what a 'VR' was. Only to be kept brief by the girl.
"It's not real ya goof. Just try not to freak out."
He would take her word for it, but clearly she was in a sorry state. And besides, this seemed to be very real. The roars, the screeches, and even the sound Hiccup's dorky voice seemed to be real. But, what if she was right? What if this really was not real?
Yet before he could think about her theory, a chattering sound brought his attention back to the scene. From a distance, he spotted the shadow of an all too familiar dragon hidden in the bushes just behind Hiccup and his family. And before he knew it, the dragon leapt out of the bushes and finally revealed itself. The Night Fury cringed at the sight of the familiar beast. His scales began to shiver and there was a very cold chill that crawled up his spine. For it now occurred to him that the notorious deathgripper, has finally returned. And from the looks of it, this one had a scar on its left eye. Which meant that these were no ordinary deathgrippers. But deathgrippers that once belonged to the devious Grimmel the Grisly.
Impossible. He thought that he and Hiccup defeated those pests the day he left for the Hidden World and sent their master to the bottom of the ocean. Though it did not surprise him to see that the dragon hunter was nowhere to be seen, it did petrify the Night Fury when he saw it going straight for Hiccup, tusks out and claws extended. Out of instinct, the Night Fury rushed over to intercept the deathgripper and defend his best friend from it. Completely ignoring the human girl's previous words.
Upon reaching his viking companion's side, the Night Fury let out a warning roar to the abomination. And it in return lunged at him in a basic bite attempt. Only for the Night Fury to dodge the attack before clamping his jaws onto the deathgripper's neck.
The venomous dragon killer screeched in response before Toothless flung it into the forest to his left. He thought that it would be over, but by the time he turned around, two other deathgrippers appeared from the bushes. With a third coming up from the rear, completely surrounding him. This was not going to be easy.
On hindsight he faced these creatures before. And they were not too difficult to ward off. He glanced back at his viking friend, who seemed pretty surprised to see him. Though before he could say a word, Toothless swung his tail around and smacked an upcoming deahgripper before jumping up and whacking his tail again at another.
Though in spite of the situation, his further attempts to repel deathgrippers' brutal assault did not go unnoticed by his human companion. Who apparently started calling out to him.
"Wait, stop," she tried to assure the Night Fury. "It's not real! It's-"
Before long she was soon cut off by another wave of sand that eventually took her elsewhere. Yet Toothless did not seem to notice as he fires a plasma blast the attacking scarred deathgripper, sending it sliding back into the bushes. He did not know why they were doing this, yet the Night Fury knew that it was his duty to protect the people he loved most from those who would destroy them. At all cost.
He backed up slowly as two deathgrippers closed in on him. Standing between his best friend and family against the monstrosities before him. Growling at them fiercely as the third deathgripper came crawling out of the bushes to join its companions. It seemed as if it was a stand off, and Toothless knew that he could have the advantage if he could take the fight to the skies. He slowly starts to raise his wings in an attempt to fly out. But was interrupted when the fourth deathgripper ambushed Toothless behind and nearly missed the vikings as it came out from his right shoulder.
At that very moment, the three other dragon killers charged at him in a full frontal assault. But Toothless countered all of their attacks as he first swipes his paw right at the middle deathripper first. Then he backhands the second deathripper with his left wing. And headbutts the last attacker for interrupting his escape plan. The fight raged on as the deathgrippers drew first blood. Seeing that they outnumbered the lone dragon, they used that to their advantage. But Toothless got into situations like this before, and knew exactly what to do.
The scarred deathgripper attacks him from behind, but Toothless dodges the attack and holds the cannibal's head with his paws, and with incredible momentum, he shoots a plasma blast right on top of it's head. Which subdues it. He looks over his shoulder to see the second deathgripper charging right at him. But he stops it with his right paw and pushes it back. Then, he grabs the third deathgripper by the neck with his jaws; who was assaulting him from his left side, and throws it into the second one.
While the battle went as planned, Toothless kept in mind that he needed to protect his best friend. And it was tough while fighting these beasts. Because after recovering, the two other the deathgrippers continued to attack, but this time aimed straight at him. The third deathgripper attempted to snatch him from behind while the second came straight at him. Toothless quickly grabbed Hiccup from his waist and pulled him up to his chest. While shoving Astrid and her children to the side with his tail to get them out of range. The assault from the deathgrippers has Toothless pinned to the ground.
But the good news was that he was sitting right on top of the third deathgripper. Which mean that he had it temporarily immobilized. But at the same time, the second deathgripper was inches away from the viking chief. Who snatched the Night Fury's right wrist in his attempt to block it from biting Hiccup's face off. In response, Toothless pulls it's head back with his left paw and yanks it's jaws off his other one. The moment he finally got up on his feet, the scarred deathgripper attacked from his right side.
Ferociously snapping at Hiccup, who was being held by Toothless from his right paw. He starts to spin into a circle to prevent the dragon eater from snatching her face, and once he was facing it's right side, he grabs the deathgripper by the tail and throws it into the direction of the fourth deathgripper.
They had their fun, but now it's time to get serious. Because Toothless was done playing games with them. He now turns the tables ad he smacks the third deathgripper with his left wing. And then hit the scarred deathgripper under its jaw with his tail. The impact knocked the dragon killer of it's feet and send it tumbling to the ground.
Toothless then spotted a large rock just to the left of him. And with quick thinking, he jumps right on top of the rock, holds Hiccup with his left forearm and begins to flap his wings rapidly. He was only 7 feet off of the ground when the scarred deathgripper finally got back on it's feet. The moment it saw Toothless lifting the rock, it lunged out in a final attack. And at the right moment, Toothless dropped the rock right on top of it's head. Killing it at an instant.
Upon witnessing their comrade's apparent demise, the other deathgrippers were sent into a panic. The two in front of them started backing up nervously. Which threw them off their game in their battle against the Night Fury. Which was a good sign for Toothless. It occurred to him then that he just killed their leader, which usually causes the rest of the pack to scatter in terror. But to his surprise, the deathgrippers did not flee. Instead the snarled at the alpha dragon with a vengeance. Admirably, but mistaken.
He set Hiccup to the side as he confronted these monstrosities. Ready to continue the fight at will. As they readied themselves, Toothless could hear the third circling him from behind. Attempting to flank him once again. Then they made their move. With the first deathgripper to the Night Fury's left lunging first. Upon contact, Toothless grabbed the dragon eater by the sides of its head and flung it into the direction of the deathgripper that was behind him. Only for it to leap over its comrade and lung towards him. Yet Toothless anticipated this and dodged its strike before catching the side of its neck with his paws and slammed it to the ground.
From the corner of his eye, he sees one of the other charging from his right side. Once near, he swats it in the face with his right wing and wraps his claws around its neck. While simultaneously grabbing a hold at the downed deathripper's neck with his other paw. Then with the strength of ten vikings, he lifted both dragons up into the air before slamming them both individually down to the ground in full force.
With both dragons completely immobilized Toothless delivers the final blow to them by lifting his forearms and crushing both their heads like eggs. Letting out a roar in furious anger afterwards. Though upon his sudden victory, he heard something. A faint scream from a distance. Toothless briefly turned his head to see what it was, and saw his dear human girl companion her knees crying in a large hall of a place he did not know of. Apparently there were two other girls fused into one, and were berating her about something.
With a brink of curiosity, Toothless spun around to towards the direction of the girl and watched the scene unfold.
"How could you Mar-Mar," one of the girls state.
"You betrayed us!" the other one scolded.
The girl looked like she was begging for forgiveness. Which the Night Fury did not understand why.
"I know what I did was super dumb," she admitted. "I'm so sorry."
"It's too late!" the two other girls dismissed. "We want nothing to do with you! Ever again!"
The girl kept breaking down into tears. Unable to escape her own torment.
"No, please!" she begged softly.
In that moment, Toothless this new urge to protect her from the two that would cause her great agony. Yet before he could take action, the cries of his best friend caught him off guard.
"Toothless!" he yelled. "Help!"
When the Night Fury turned to his direction he yelped when he saw the final deathgripper within arms range near his best friend. He watched it snap at Hiccup, nearly missing him as the young viking fled. That was when he decided to intervene. As Hiccup retreated, the Night Fury leapt to his side and growled at the dragon killer. Who in response let out a challenging roar at the dragon king.
Yet before it could think of a proper way to attack, Toothless clamped his tooth onto the deathgripper's upper jaw. And with sheer force, the black dread jerked his head back and tore a good chunk of the deathgripper's upper jaw. Earning a whimper from the deathgripper as it stumbled back in total shock, before collapsing on its side. Never to see the light of another day again.
After that there was no roar for Toothless as he held the remaining part of the dead dragon's snout in his mouth. Blood oozed out from underneath as he stared hatefully at the dragon killer's corpse. With all the deathgrippers finally defeated, Toothless declared this battle over. It was finally done, and Hiccup was safe once more. Speaking of which, the Night Fury turned his shoulder to see if his best friend was still there. And indeed he was, staring in complete shock.
With a warble of joy the Night Fury dropped the piece of meat and rushed to his side. Wrapping his arms around his friend and embraced him with a tight hug. The viking chief in response returned with his own embrace while smiling.
"Oh Toothless," he said with a sigh "I missed you too."
After that, they both released their embrace and got a good look at each other.
"I knew you would come Toothless," the viking commented. "After all, I would be nothing without you."
Toothless smiled in response. But then paused for a second to think. If he remembered correctly, Hiccup would never say that. Sure he thought about it many times before he left, yet he was never one to actually admit it. Something was wrong. Very wrong indeed. Why would he admit this to him after everything they both went through? Shoot, he even said to him that he looked after him for long enough, and that he could take care of himself.
And plus, wasn't he supposed to be with his family? He reckoned that family should come first. Not your friends. Then he turned his head around and saw then nowhere to be found. In fact, no one else seemed to be in the area at the moment. Just him and his best friend, along with the corpses of the deathgrippers. Now something was indeed off. Though before he could process any more of the situation, another faint cry sounded off. Afterwards Toothless turned his attention back to the human girl, hearing the continuous sobbing from before. The Night Fury pondered himself with more questions as he analyzed the situation. How can there be two environments in the same area? It just didn't make sense. Unless?
"Toothless," Hiccup said in a worried tone. "What's wrong?"
The Night Fury slowly turned back at the viking, and upon making eye contact with him, he noticed something very peculiar about Hiccup. For one the color of his eyes started to shift. From greenish brown to an orangeish yellow as they flickered on and off like a light bulb. He knew those eyes. He seen them before. Those were the sames eyes from the wall that he saw just before stumbling upon this place. Which could only mean one thing.
That the human female was right: this wasn't real. This was as she claimed it to be as a projection. A VR or something. Upon realizing this, turns to the human girl, who was still crying as the fiend that towered before her continued to taunt her. At that moment, he got a whiff of a familiar stench in the area around her. He smelt it before. Many times actually. In fact, it was so familiar that he didn't even have to take a guess.
It was fear. And not just any fear, it was hers. Which seemed pretty obvious to the Night Fury. Considering the fact that she's literally quivering in fear at this moment. Yet something didn't add up to the dragon king. While the girls fears were very clear to him, then what does that mean for him? He didn't have that many fears. Apart from eels, the parasite grimora, and others he did not wish to remember, he wasn't really afraid of anything. For he was the most fearless dragon in the Barbaric Archipelago according to most vikings. So what did he have to fear?
As he thought about it, he recalled his eagerness to protect Hiccup and his family from the deathgrippers, along with all the other small details he notices. Like New Berk being under assault and the dragons doing things he did not command. He was pretty concerned about those things. Then, when it all seemed lost, it finally hit him. It was so clear to him now that he questioned himself on why he didn't see it was no ordinary projection. This was a projection: that showcased his worst fear. With his worse fear being that Berk would come under attack, and him not being there to protect Hiccup when it does happen. And for the girl, her fear was being rejected by her friends after wronging them in a way he did not know of.
Upon coming to this realization, he turns back to his 'best friend', but instead of a joyful smile, his expression turned into a dark glare, with a menacing low growl escape from his mouth. He had finally come to a conclusion after seeing what he had just realized.
That this was not the real Hiccup. This was merely an illusion. It was a ruse, a deep fake, a filthy lie. Twisted by whatever powers that were here to toy with his emotions and bring about his worst nightmare. And it infuriated him.
"Toothless," she said in a more worried tone. "You're starting to scare me. What's going on?"
He slowly rose up. Pressing his front paws off the floor and began to tower over the imposter viking. His teeth began to bare out. With the melody of his low growl getting louder and louder. His wings extended out. Making himself seemingly bigger. And the burning rage in his eyes, gazing down upon him. Obviously indicating that he is now p*sed off.
"Toothless, stop!"
He didn't. Instead he opened his maw. With a blue glow coming out from within. With a screech-like sound escaping as well. The illusion began to get real nervous. And was even more afraid than before. And before the next few seconds could pass, he let out one last cry before they could take place.
"NOOOO!"
Yet before any shots could be fired, a part of the illusion disappeared. Which startled the Night Fury. Then upon hearing something he turned his gaze back and noticed that his tail was blocking something. When he lifted it up, he saw one of the eyes from the wall from before. Only to look back at the projection to see the covered part reappear. He wondered what it meant, until he came up with an idea. He covered the eye with his tail, and saw that the same part of the projection disappeared. Then he removed it to see the part reappear and did covered it did it a few more times before finally figuring it out. Bingo!
It was the eyes. That's what was causing this whole illusion. After finally coming to this realization, Toothless turns around and calls to the human female. Who lifts her head up to him with tears running down her face. Upon getting her attention the Night Fury motioned his head towards the eye, and then began showing her what he just realized. When she saw it, she turned to one of the lockers in the hall and noticed another eye before she finally understood what he meant.
"That must be where all these things are being projected from," she stated before turning back to the King of Dragons. "Take out the eyes!"
With that being said, the Night Fury grinned at her before turning his attention to the eye before him. It got a good look at it before smashing it with his paw. After that he saw the half of the projection of Hiccup completely fade away. A good start. He then spun around and swung his tail towards the wall. Taking out four more eyes in the process. The girl rushed over to join him in the elimination of the eyes, tripping herself in the process and rolling over simultaneously before slamming her back up against the wall. Eventually destroy six more eyes and causing the top half of the projection of the two other girls to fade.
For the next minute or so both girl and beast went on a smashing spree. Destroying any eye they laid their gazes upon. From punching, to kicking, to slashing, to blasting and biting, they relentlessly annihilated the eyes till the last one. Which was now at the top of the wall.
"There's the last one," the girl pointed out.
Yet to their surprise, it was now being guarded by a mixture of both the two girls and his viking friend. Whom let out a barbaric roar in protest. Toothless opened his maw to clear the last eye, yet found himself unable to due to being out of shots. He silently cursed himself for it. Realizing that he had wasted most of his shots in his battle with the deathgrippers and just used up the rest. Yet before he could give up, he spotted a small crossbow laying on the ground.
It was so small that it could fit around a human's arm. Though when he thought about it, he turned to the female and back to the crossbow. Only to realize that it was quick thinking he grabbed the crossbow with his jaws and roared out to the girl. Flinging it to her moments after. Upon catching it, the girl wrapped it around her arm with a big grin on her face.
"That's what I'm talking about," she gloated.
Than with sheer determination, she loaded her crossbow with an arrow, aimed at the eye, and fired at will. The arrow glided right passed the projection and met its target with ease. Bullseye! With the final eye finally destroyed, the projection finally started to fade away. An explosion split the projection in half before the two watched it crumble into pieces. The girl grinned as it finally faded for good and Toothless let out a roar in victory.
And the next thing they both knew, the environment started to shift back into the area they previously were. The projection finally gone, and both human and dragon finally deprived of their worse fears, they were finally free.
"We did it!" the girl declared as she jumped for joy.
The two of them then started hooting and hollering. Celebrating their win over the projection. The Night Fury started bouncing around like some crazed dog. Before he instinctively tackled the girl to the ground without a warning before proceeding to lick her face. She giggled in response, invigorated to the dragon's enthusiasm.
"Okay okay, that's enough you," she finally stated as she starts to push his muzzle away.
Only to wrap her arms around it in a hug as soon as Toothless pressed his head to her chest. By the time they detached, the two smiled at each other. Feeling affectionate towards one another and were happy to have finally been rid of whatever it was back there. As for Toothless, this was something that he will never forget. Not even after his previous friendship with his viking friend. Which will always last forever.
Afterwards, Toothless stepped back as the human picked herself back up. Only for her to stare at him with huge eyes.
"We do make a pretty good team," she commented before looking to the door. "Now let's get out of her."
Before he knew it, Toothless watched the human fall face first to the ground just like before.
"Sorry," she said as she lifted her head off the ground. "I might need a little help."
The Night Fury smiled in response before proceeding to pick her back up with his head. Eventually leading up to him having to hold his head to her hip for support. It seemed to the two of them that they both would have a lot of catching up to do. They started making their way to the door when all of a sudden, a huge hand came rushing from the entrance and pushed them back into the room.
The sheer force of the hand sent them both tumbling back. Before coming to a screeching halt. Upon stopping, Toothless shook his head and looked up before growling profusely at the one who stood between them and freedom. At the same time, the girl looked up and gasped in utter fear. For the one who towered before them was no other the King Andrias. Who stood there with his hands behind his back.
"Leaving so soon?" he questioned. "But we so have much to discuss."
Before long the Night Fury leapt to the girl's side and let out a thundering roar towards the amphibian king. Determined to protect her from the very being that had her in that tank in the first place. And put an end to whatever schemes he had planned for this innocent girl once and for all.
That's it for now. Wanna know what happens next? Yeah, me too. Stay tuned.
