Kageyama Kumiko yawned deeply, stretching her arms up into the sky as she did it. The late afternoon sun was just dawning and its foggy atmosphere caused Kumiko to feel sleepy. It had been a long day at school, Date Tech High, and she was ready to go to sleep the minute she got home, ignoring the fact that she had assignments piling up by the minute.
Her boyfriend, Kenji-kun hadn't been at school that day, making everything more boring than usual. Kumiko had tried calling him in the afternoon when it was lunchtime, but it had seemed so busy and messy on the other end, with Kenji even swearing, that Kumiko had decided to end the call. He'd said that he was going to his aunty's house but it had certainly not looked like it, but she didn't want to ask him about it yet.
Her home was in sight when a text message pinged through her phone, and Kumiko wondered if she really had the energy to look at her phone at all. But in the end, she took it out of her bag and tapped into the message. It was Chika, her friend from school. Chika was currently obsessed with the tall, broody high school boy; Aone and so far, Kumiko had gotten nearly forty texts concerning Aone from Chika.
Kumiko rolled her eyes but they widened when she realised that the text, was indeed, not about Aone.
CHIKA: Kumi-chan! THERE'S BIG NEWS! WAIT- I'LL TELL YOU LATER
Kumiko blinked but soon forgot about the text when a dog came sniffing up her legs. She giggled, bending down to pat the canine. Its fur was soft but knotted, as if it was homeless. Kumiko looked up, expecting to find someone who would come looking for the dog, but no one came. Sighing, she picked the dog and headed home. Kumiko could bring it to the adoption centre the next morning if no one turned up sooner or later.
But then another thought occurred to her; since her phone was already open, she might as well check in with her boyfriend right now.
KUMIKO: Kenji-kun~! Where were you today? You seemed really busy this afternoon. Are you okay? What was happening? I mean, it seemed pretty serious, you even had sunglasses on.
His answer came immediately.
KENJI: Oh hi, Kumi-chan! Sorry about earlier. I was busy with some of my mates down at Onigashi town. I was pretty busy with my aunty before lunch but then went to hang with my mates later on. Sorry about missing school and not really paying attention to you...! I'll call you tonight maybe? After eleven though.
FUMIKO: Alright, no worries. I was just worried but it's all good. I'll call you at eleven thirty then. See you 3
Her bag was thrown to the side as she rushed to the bathroom, eager to get a hot bath before all the hot water in the suburb ran out. It happened from time to time. But before she entered the bathroom, her eyes flickered to a picture frame on the shelf of her bedroom.
The picture was old and the glass was slightly dusty, the frame yellowish and splintered. Kumiko was young in the photo, maybe seven or eight. The sight of the picture set her heart beating with agony. It had been taken so long ago, when her family had been whole. But now, it was just her and her father.
"Tobio..." she whispered, but darted into the bathroom, refusing to cry. It would be no use. After all those nights she'd spent crying alone in her bedroom, begging for it all to be a dream, nothing had changed. Nothing would ever change and she would never see her brother again. It was useless to cry.

Nearly an hour later, after soaking in her hot bath, slowly drying herself and her hair, blowing her hair dry, pondering whether or not it was a good time to perm her hair or not, Kumiko finally got out of the bathroom, pulled away her towel and dressed herself.
By the time she was done, there were several messages on her phone. All of them were from Chika. A puff of air escaped her mouth as she sighed, Kumiko really hoped that it wasn't another text or adoration about Aone or she might just go mad.
CHIKA: Kumi-chan... I think you might need to check the news. Like right now. It's serious.
CHIKA: It's your brother.
Kumiko froze. Her brother? It couldn't be. She hadn't seen him in so long, why would he suddenly appear in the news? Without a moment of hesitation, her legs raced to the living room, her towel still in hand, and turned on the television. The news blared into her face.
"Sixteen year old, high school boy, Kageyama Tobio has been arrested for assault against another bunch of high schoolers. Today, in the afternoon, Kageyama-kun was found in the scene of five bloodied guys when another anonymous young high schooler saw him and reported him immediately. Kageyama will now face the court before it is confirmed whether or not he will be fined or sent to juvenile jail. (Picture of Kageyama Tobio - Picture of bloodied guys)"
Her lip trembled and for the second time today, tears threatened to fall down her cheek. Tobio? What was she supposed to do now? The thought of him hurting a fly scared her, because in all her life, she had never known him to be violent at all. Unless he was angry, but he would never beat some guys up out of the blue like this. What was she supposed to do now?
She woke up from her dooming thought when Chika suddenly burst into her house, panting heavily. "Kumiko! Did you see?! You saw right?! I'm sorry! I don't know what to do now! What do we do Kumi-chan?!" she cried, shaking Kumiko.
Kumiko could barely react. Her mind was too frozen. What was happening?
"Kumi-chan?!"
"Chika," Kumiko whispered, "I can't- No. This can't be happening. What do I do? It's not Tobio!" Her lip trembled dangerously and her fingers were curled up into a tight fist. Her eyes, usually a fiery blue, now had dulled to a greyish blue. This was wrong, it had to be.
Chika eyed her friend worriedly. Usually, it was Kumiko who was the smarter out of the two and found a way out of a problem. But now, Kumiko seemed unable to function. Chika had to take charge this time. "Kumiko," Chika shook her, "We need to go to your brother right now. You're sure it's not him, right?"
Kumiko nodded, "I swear on my life."
She smiled, "Alright then. Lets go free your brother. We can't have him in prison when he was framed." Chika grinned happily as she pulled Kumiko out of the house and into her car. They had a journey to make if they wanted to make it in time.

When she had finally came to her senses, Kumiko found the next thing to do in this situation; call Kenji-kun. He would be able to calm her down and help her get Tobio out of jail. There was no person better for it. Kumiko dialed his number, and after three minutes of waiting, Kenji took the call.
"Kumi-chan? Hello? Are you okay?" Kenji's voice hit home hard when she heard it and it took all she could to keep her tears in. Kumiko could do this.
"Kenji-kun! Are you at home right now? I really need you. Like now. I can't do this anymore. Can we please meet?" Kumiko asked.
There was a slight pause. On the other end, Kumiko could hear the same messy laughter and racket she'd heard when Kumiko had called him in the morning. "Kenji-kun? Are you alright? What's with the background noise?"
He finally answered. "It's nothing, Kumi-chan. But right now, I just can't. I'm sorry. I am busy with something right now and I'm not home. Maybe another time." With that done, he quickly ended the call, leaving Kumiko speechless. He'd always been there when she'd needed him, but why couldn't he be here now? Wasn't she always there for him too?
Not wanting to breakdown and lose control like she had done before, Kumiko took a deep breath and turned off her phone. If Kenji-kun had said it was a bad time, then it was a bad time. She trusted him, the least she could do was give him his space.
Beside her, in the driver's seat, Chika casted nervous glances Kumiko's way. "Soooo... That was Futakuchi-kun? Such a brat, I tell you," Chika scoffed.
Kumiko sighed. "Yeah, that was him. He was busy though."
Her friend nodded wisely, "Yeah. BRAT. He can't even be here when you need him most. Did he even tell you why? I bet you he didn't. He doesn't really treat you all that well, Kumi-chan. You should dump him real soon. Maybe now even."
Shaking her head, Kumiko gave another more frustrated sigh. "He was just busy, Chika. Kenji-kun doesn't have to tell me why. And I'm not dumping him, not now anyway."
When they had finished their short and curt conversation, the police station came into view. This was the only possible station that could hold Tobio because the place he lived wasn't all that big. More like a town if you asked Kumiko. Before she had even unbuckled her seat belt, she was already opening the door before she finally sprinted out to the station, Chika close behind her but slower.
Kumiko had just entered the building when a policeman came into the lobby, where she and Chika were. The intimidating policeman who towered over them as he walked towards Kumiko and Chika. His face looked angry, weathered away by the tiresome business of the police force. She couldn't imagine.
"H-hey... Officer..." Chika greeted nervously, her voice faltering at every word. Kumiko felt like running, but she couldn't, not if she wanted to rescue her brother.
"Officer! I'm here to see my brother, Kageyama Tobio! Please let me see him! You need to let him go," Kumiko begged desperately, her eyes shining with tears. "You have him, right? Please just give him to me. I can prove that he didn't do it!"
The man eyed her suspiciously. "You're sister of Kageyama-san?"
Kumiko nodded eagerly, "Can I see him?"
He held out a hand, in it was a handkerchief. "This was left at the sight but Kageyama-san claims that this is not his. It doesn't have the DNA of either of the victims either. We suspect that there may have been a third party but we cannot be sure. Do you recognise if this is your brothers? Do not lie. We have security cameras and lie detectors everywhere."
Kumiko trembled at the sight of the handkerchief. Blue, with cute yellow starfishes sprinkled on it. At the ripped corner, small stitching with tiny Japanese characters. Kumiko had seen it before but she didn't want to believe it. "I have seen it before," she said quietly. Her tears had frosted away. "It's not my brothers. It's belongs to Futakuchi Kenji."
It made sense now, where Kenji-kun had been the whole day. Why he had mysteriously decided to ditch her and why it had been so noisy when she'd called him. Not only had she finally recognised what she'd heard on the phone, Kumiko knew that all these past months Kenji-kun had most likely been doing more of this. The noise; swearing, fighting, blood being spilled and alcohol bottles. She'd become too familiar with it when her parents had fought many years ago.
Behind her, Chika gasped.
The policeman ordered a nearby man to check it out and confirm the DNA but he turned back to Kumiko. "I will allow you to see your brother. He is freed."
Kumiko nearly cried with tears of joy when she finally saw Tobio. Sitting alone by the wall of the cell, looking dirty, bruised, bloodied and beaten, he still looked like an angel to Kumiko's eyes. His raven hair and electrifying eyes which had not died out even after all of this.
"Tobio!" Kumiko cried and ran to him, collapsing into his frame as she curled her lanky arms around her brother. He was bigger and taller than her now, but he still felt and smelt like the younger brother she had always known. Innocent, slightly oblivious, volleyball-headed, but caring and kind when it came to it. How long had it been since she'd saw him?
Tobio was taken aback, but his shoulders started shaking and soon, his tears were soaking Kumiko's back. "Nee-san? Is it you? I'm sorry you had to come free me. I'm sorry." He wrapped his arms around his sister, not ever wanting to let go. Finally, after all these years.
"Don't be stupid. You haven't done anything. You're free now, Tobio. I'm sorry I didn't come to you sooner," Kumiko continued crying, "I'm just glad I can see you again!"
There you go! The first chapter in nearly two months! Sorry about that but I finally got a really good idea from my friend, hence the urge to write this chapter. I've been reserving Kageyama for some time because he's one of my favourite characters (after Oikawa) and I really wasn't sure what to do with him. I know the chapter was mainly about his sister and not him, but I kinda wanted the suspense to when they actually met. Thank you to my friend (XXXXXXX) for giving this idea, I was ready to give up on continuing this fanfiction which I certainly do not want to do. I'm also sorry to those Futakuchi Kenji fans for addressing him as basically the really rude antagonist in the story but it fit his personality XD. I love Futakuchi too btw. Anyway, thanks to all my readers and special thanks to those who hearted the story! You all give me additional will to live! Thank you!
