Chapter 27:

Straddling Lightning's chest Yuna continued to press down with as much force as she could as the screaming from Rosa seemed to fade into nothingness. She had a lot bigger things to worry about. She just had to continue to press down onto the teen's chest knowing that if she stopped for too long she'd have all kinds of powerful enemies... or at least one. One that could do whatever she wanted to with no consequences.

Not to mention the poor man who was already getting screamed at by Rosa... may the gods forbid if Serah found out that the new orderly who was just responding to the alarm had injected her older sister with the one thing that was the normal procedure if the alarm was pressed that Lightning just so happened to be apparently deathly allergic to.

She just had to tune all the screaming out as she just had to focus on keeping Lightning alive.

Once she counted to thirty, Yuna quickly lowered her mouth to quickly breathe into Lightning's mouth. She was at the point that she'd be worried about her conscience that meant that Lightning had lived through so much and a single needle would have killed her. Especially with how much she had seen her being injected with.

Pulling back a little, Yuna took a deep lungful of air before she leaned down to breathe once more into Lightning's mouth before she pulled back and returned to the far more violent form of keeping the woman alive.

Seeing a person enter Yuna's peripheral, she didn't even have a chance to really register who or what it was as she just continued to beat the woman's chest to force her to live.

"I swear to Etro I will drag you back and keep you here." Yuna muttered softly as she looked up to see one of the on staff nurses having placed a mask over Lightning's nose and mouth with a bag of air attached causing her to just breathe a little sigh of relief.

It meant that she didn't need to focus as much on one aspect. It was at least proof that the gods were at least smiling at them as she just knew that it had only been enough time for three cycles which meant that it was nearly her turn to scream at the man who couldn't have been much older than Lightning herself.

Looking over her shoulder she almost laughed at the sight of the man in the corner as she could see Sazh acting as a blockade between the man and Rosa who just wanted to scream herself as she quickly glanced at Yuna who had just reached to the count of thirty once again as she reached up to just gently touch Lightning's neck as she just felt herself slouch a bit. That was until she could feel the tensing abdominal muscles causing her to blanch slightly.

Knocking the mask off, Yuna quickly held Lightning's head to the side as a puddle of stomach acid began to almost rain out as she just sighed gently as she could feel Lightning starting to breathe unassisted. It just caused her to relax a little as she could see Rosa's shoes entering her vision as she almost fell over from joy.

"You know you are meant to swap over every five minutes." Rosa said as Yuna just fell to the side as she took a deep breath as she just started to laugh a little. "How is she doing?"

As she could feel the laughter dying down, Yuna just glanced up at her boss. "Thought that would have been five... how long was it?" Yuna asked as she started to accept the help from her boss into a standing position. "And her heart is beating and she is breathing... where is the walking deadman if you know who finds out?" Yuna said as she felt Rosa just holding her up as they walked over towards one of the overturned chairs.

Quickly picking the chair back up, Rosa just started to lower her down. "Don't worry about that, just take some rest right now. One of us needs to decide who gets to pull what pin on what hand grenade."

"If Sazh wants to protect the deadman he should be the one to tell Vanille... you can tell Serah because I refuse on grounds that I defied her Father's wishes and kept her alive. And I'll go with her to the hospital to make sure I didn't accidentally break too many of her ribs. Once I can actually feel my arms... and have a decent chance to breathe." Yuna said before she just took a deep lungful of air as she just glanced over towards Rosa. "How are your ribs doing. I only took a hit to the face once and it took weeks for my jaw to feel right... you took a kick from her and kicks are so much worse." Yuna asked as Rosa just sighed gently.

"I'll live. But that should allow me the right to not call her family. And we can't have Sazh do it... the poor man will be crucified." Rosa said as she could see Sazh carrying the terrified man out of the room. Something that she just knew was for the best. Especially because whoever told her family was a dead person if they couldn't get Lightning's mother or more accurately her sister to see reason. And then there was the danger of Vanille.

That was a wild card that no one really knew how disastrous it would be. And frankly it was a danger that even Sazh knew the dangers of. And Rosa just knew that after everything if she knew the reason... Rosa was just happy to pawn that off on the head orderly. It would be so much better for her own personal sanity.

Closing her eyes as she tilted her head downwards, Yuna just took a deep breath. "One of us needs to take that bullet at some point." Yuna said as she snapped her fingers as she raised her head. "Her mother. We tell her mother... and that way we dodge the crazy bullet at least for a little and hopefully she'll be calmer when one of us talk to her."

"That woman is far from calm when it comes to her sister. She literally and I wish I was joking is currently in the process of tearing down two kingdoms futures from the whole prince incident. And everyone is just hoping that she'll eventually calm down and restore their futures." Rosa said as she took a deep breath herself and started to rub her own ribs.

"You should probably go to the hospital anyway. But do you see what I mean when I say she packs a punch?" Yuna said as she started to stand up as she looked at Lightning's unconscious form. She almost seemed peaceful despite the fact that Yuna wrenched her from the reaper himself. Not to mention she would love to have known why a single name had caused the reaction of her destroying a room as she tried to run towards under Rosa's desk as if she was trying to just return to the safe place of a confined and claustrophobic area.

"I'd rather avoid that headache from Cecil... so I'll get checked out at the hospital when Lightning is taken there. But we'll need to get Lightning ready for transport... and then hoping that she'll wake up and remember some of the topic..."

"I really hope she doesn't... but we now know one of four that apparently she doesn't want to remember... and it somehow isn't as bad as it could have been and so much worse than I hoped. I really really do in fact hope that the others aren't that bad but we both know that knowing her... they are if not worse..." Yuna said in a soft tone as she could see Rosa just nodding her head in understanding.

"When you phrase it like that I can't help but agree. But that just puts her known body count at least into the mid thirties and of those only one wasn't a known rapist... or to be more exact people who have raped her." Rosa said as she started to walk over towards her desk and picked up the phone so she could quickly dial one of several numbers. Raising the phone to her ear. "It is Doctor Farrell. I need another orderly up here, once the ambulance gets here, send them straight up to my office, and I need a cleaning crew up here in forty minutes. Tell the cleaning crew that it is a liquid biohazard mess as well." Rosa spoke as Yuna looked down and just frowned.

"Fuck... this is not going to make her family or Vanille more understanding that I literally just saved her life." Yuna muttered as she could see Rosa shaking her head as she hung up.

"Look at the colour Yuna. It is a slow bleed. Chances are she just has intestinal inflammation. And we either way... you should really figure out how you are going to tell Mary. Because you are the doctor in charge of Lightning's case. Which means it is going to fall on you and it can't be deferred to me because I'll be under the influence of narcotics really soon because this whole rib thing is starting to brutally kill me." Rosa said as she started to rub her chest as Yuna just deflated a little. "Yeah you didn't think I had that one did you?"

Frowning as she kicked the floor, Yuna just sighed as she looked towards her boss. "No. I just hoped that you wouldn't go about that way. And it just means that you can't be her acting guardian either." Yuna said as she just took a deep breath.

"Can you blame me? I'm not keen on killing myself. And I don't think it will end any other way with her mother. And she is sadly the best option to tell people at this point. Vanille might actually be seriously drugged and forced into solitary for several days if she takes it the best way that she is inclined to. Literally the only benefit is that Sazh can occasionally talk sense into Vanille and I'm not getting hit twice in one day. And I can only reasonably forgive one of them." Rosa mumbled as she could see the elevator rising to the floor. It had just made her really hope that it was the ambulance arriving earlier than normal for once.

Seeing the door open, Rosa began to deflate as she could see Sazh walking out of the elevator with a frown as he had a busted lip from what Rosa just knew was the redhead he had currently by the scruff of her neck.

"I swear if you harmed her Sazh, nothing is going to stop me... I'll go to the south building swinging if it means I get the bastards who hurt her." Vanille yelled as she was about to run towards the pair of legs when she felt her shirt choking her a little as she tried to fight the hold as Sazh just glanced towards the doctors. "WHO NEEDS TO DIE! I RECOGNISE HER SHOES!" Vanille screamed as Yuna just nodded towards the man to let her go.

Feeling the oppressing hand being lifted Vanille was quick to sprint towards the downed woman. Ignoring the mess as she gently started to gently take hold of Lightning's hand. "Come on Light..." Vanille whispered as Yuna just placed a hand on her shoulder. "Who is going to get the old fashion wrath of Vanille brought down onto them."

"She slugged me when I wouldn't tell her. Pretty sure she knocked a tooth loose." Sazh said as Yuna just took a deep breath hearing this was frankly what she knew Rosa meant as the best possible way she could take it. Not to mention she had just hoped the fighting that would come soon when they had to take Lightning away wasn't going to be hard.

"We can't tell you that Vanille. But she is breathing and she has a pulse." Yuna spoke as she could see Vanille just frowning a little.

"She is cold though."

Groaning a little as she bent down, Rosa gently pressed two fingers to Lightning's neck causing her to sigh. "She has a pulse Vanille. It is weak but it is there. And once the paramedics are here you are going to be going into solitary for assaulting Sazh. Yuna, Lightning and myself need to go to the hospital." Rosa said as Vanille just looked between the doctors. "Once we are back we'll talk to you. About the blatant assault on Sazh and we'll tell you what we can about Lightning."

Hearing the elevator, Vanille just took a deep breath. "Wait, I'll go calmly... but first tell me what happened."

"We pulled up some bad memories of her's that lead to her needing to be sedated but an orderly accidentally administered the normal drug that Lightning is allergic to. Which led to her going into a seizure and it just caused her heart to stop. And while Rosa was busy giving the person responsible enough rope to hang themselves, I was busy getting Lightning's heart started again." Yuna started as she just sighed gently as she started to help Vanille up.

"Wait... why does Rosa and you need to go?" Sazh asked calmly as Rosa just shook her head as Vanille walked over towards him.

"Lightning kicked me in the ribs. And chances are she broke a few of my ribs, and I won't be in a state to make legal choices involving Lightning which include her very likely having broken ribs. And some other minor things." Rosa said with a frown as they could see some of the paramedics walking out of the elevator with a stretcher. "Sazh, when we get back and talk to Vanille, you'll decide the length of her punishment. But she is to be in solitaire. Wait for the second elevator." Rosa said with a sigh as she could see Sazh helping the paramedics lifting Lightning onto the stretcher. "Use the restraints. She is dangerous to herself and others and might still have seizures." Rosa continued with a sigh and watched Vanille take a seat as she waited patiently.

"Can I at least visit her after I'm done my punishment?" Vanille asked as Yuna just looked at her. "I know I'm being a worry wart but..."

"Potentially." Rosa said as she looked at the woman. "Depends on how well you behave in the interim." Rosa spoke as Vanille just frowned softly as she watched them walk down the hallway.

"I'm sorry I hit you Sazh... just you shouldn't start giving me news about Lightning with the phrase 'Lightning was dead from a new orderly giving her something and Yuna was trying to save her' like could have picked a better way to phrase that to me."

"Yeah I see that now. But you've gotten a mean right hook since you've last punched me."

"Lightning taught me some things... at least in theory." Vanille muttered as she could see Yuna jumping onto the stretcher that had Lightning as the doors started to close. A sense of jealousy started to increase as she could see Yuna's hands being placed onto Lightning. But just relented that it was probably something serious that she was doing for her girlfriend.

"You don't get to fucking die like this." Yuna spat as she could see Rosa getting ready to swap with her as the paramedics just started to connect a mask to Lightning's face and started to slowly pump the bag as to give Lightning a steady stream of oxygen.

Gently checking the woman's pulse Rosa just sighed as she nodded her head once again. "It is beating again. I swear if we didn't need a fast acting paralytic I'd be already getting ready to take that off the shelves." Rosa said as Yuna just wanted to flop down from exhaustion but couldn't not yet. Especially with how everything was going. She couldn't take any chances.

"Once it works out of her system, I'm killing people." Yuna spat as she could see Lightning's eyes flutter open for the first time in almost forever before they closed once again.

It was at least a sign that she knew Lightning wasn't going to willingly go. A thing that she was incredibly happy for but she still couldn't take any chances in that regard. She didn't want to imagine what would happen to the messenger in those circumstances. She knew that she potentially got to experience what Lightning did first hand without a shadow of doubt in her mind.

"What happened if you don't mind me asking?" One of the paramedics asked as Yuna started to climb off the bed as they walked out of the building and towards the ambulance.

"Allergic reaction to a drug we commonly use for everyone's safety. And I swear if she starts to flat line again I'm going to drag the gods into our realm so I can brutally murder them myself for trying to take her." Yuna said as they just started to smile faintly at the fact that they started to get comfortable in one of the seats in the ambulance. "I just hope that we don't have anything else stupid happening to her for a few days... I'll be happy." Yuna said with a calm expression as she got comfortable in the seat with Rosa climbing next to her as they watched the paramedic place an oxygen monitor onto her finger.

"I'll happily take her just not working out for a few months... my ribs are in extreme pain." Rosa said as she leaned back as she could see both of the paramedics walk around to quickly drive away. "I'll be honest, I thought you were joking about the power she packs."

"Yeah now who is laughing? Although that time her heart didn't stop. But she did take down a lot more people. Including Sazh. Who took a brutal punch dead centre of his rib cage and it took him three weeks to not cry with every breath."

"Okay so I'm not being a weakling. I just hope Cecil will understand that she didn't intentionally hurt me."

"He might. I know Tidus wasn't really happy and wanted to kill her. didn't even care about her family. But he isn't very good at a lot of things like that."

"Agreed."
