Ah, writer block and starting college, the best mix to keep one from updating their fics for months :))

Originally this chapter was about Shaun too, but I noticed we were barely seeing Bitzer's thoughts lately so I had to change most of the pov here. Ended looking a rushed in some parts but I think it was a good decision nonetheless.

Oh and warning for me being super self-indulgent with the scenes of this one (^v^;)rewatched some old eps and realized Bitzer could be quite a flirt when it came to love interest he just met so I decided to explore a bit of that here.

oOo

Seven days.

Seven days since Bitzer had found himself tangled in a curious more-than-friendship with a superhero. Seven days since his best friend started acting strange.

And now, Bitzer was in a situation where those two animals with whom everything was perfect with, suddenly felt like they were getting farther and farther away from his reach.

Came to show just how many things the dog had let escape between his fingers that week.

That day there were no signs of either of them. The hero didn't show up, and Shaun remained inside the barn with the flock to prepare an event for that evening: a home-made cinema.

Decorative red curtains decorated from walls, hay-squares were aligned perfectly to serve as seats, and the big white screen hung from the ceiling all down to the floor. It was all so neatly prepared that Bitzer had to wonder if this was the surprise Shaun was talking about.

Not something that big for that sheep to disappear the whole week, nor was there a special occasion for him to plan it, but it was the only thing that made sense. As everyone gathered around to choose which movie they were going to pick, Bitzer looked up at the loft. Shaun was there, looking tired and with his hooves over the projector, but not really working on it. He was staring at Bitzer.

And Bitzer, between the many things he had in his mind, could only focus on the black gloves covering the young sheep's hooves. A cut was not new for Shaun. All the tiny scars in his knees and elbows had always been shown proudly, as a reminder of the many adventures he had. It was the weirdest thing for Shaun to hide this one.

The worry in those eyes could only make Bitzer wonder more. Maybe the dog hadn't done a good job at keeping his inner thoughts to himself, maybe his friend had noticed, decided to organize this to make him feel better and didn't want Bitzer to worry about a simple cut. That theory had holes, but also was the sort of nice things Shaun would do for them-for him.

But still, Bitzer just was more confused, because despite the many accidents that sheep had gotten into, he never learned how to bandage cuts properly. It was always the farm's sheepdog or Timmy's mom who did that for him.

And if the dog's memory wasn't so blurry, he'd swear the way the bandage was wrapped wasn't the kind Timmy's mom made.

As if sensing his distress, his friend smiled at him, but it wasn't his usual comforting one. That smile was sad and pitying in a way Shaun would never before.

Cheering shouts came from the flock then, making both look over to see they had all agreed to a movie: one of superheroes, of course.

Shaun facepalmed with a heavy sigh at that, and Bitzer had to arch a brow at being unable to figure his friend out that day.

So all said and done, once the barn was left in the dark and everyone settled around their respective seats, Bitzer was able to confirm something he had been suspecting for a while now: Shaun was avoiding him.

They usually sat together in anything that required it. They just did, it was an unspoken thing for them. Today however, Bitzer was left beside Shirley, who he knew would try to steal his popcorn the moment she finished her mega bowl. Shaun meanwhile, remained in the loft, seeming focused on not acknowledging the dog's stare nor the red mask the lamb was showing off for the movie night. Bitzer found himself lowering his ears and whimpering at being reminded of both problems with just one sight.

Shirley at his side interpreted that as him being sad over not having enough popcorn and offered some of hers. The dog smiled half heartedly and shook his head. The movie started just in time to avoid any questions.

Bitzer wasn't really one to love the superhero genre, despite latest encounters making it...more charming for him. It was one of those things he just watched if the rest did. This movie, luckily, was one of those classics that were fun and easy to go through. The romance scenes were the ones to get his attention the most.

It wasn't the focus, but the date scenes and such just got Bitzer to swoon over and wag his tail unconsciously. The idea of being in the arms of a charming animal before was nice, but after meeting a certain someone it felt way more close to home.

The dog had looked away once in a while, if any particular scene was uninteresting or he knew it by memory. His surroundings didn't hold any difference through any of that.

Until the kiss scene happened.

A certain spider hero, everyone knew him and this scene. He was hanging from a building, flirting and getting his love interest pulling his mask down just enough to…

Bitzer had to turn his head when he noticed himself daydreaming way too much, covering his mouth in hopes of hiding any blush that had appeared.

He noticed when he turned back though, that despite being the usual for Shaun to look away from mushy scenes in movies, he wasn't childishly sticking out his tongue now. Instead, the dog thought he saw his friend staring at him with wide eyes before quickly looking away.

Bitzer narrowed his eyes. Now, seeing his friend suddenly leaving the loft to escape through the window, that definitely wasn't his imagination.

Bitzer wasn't sure how many times he had called for that name in the past minutes. It felt useless, like if everytime he said it the sheep got farther away. Even his trusted nose wasn't helping him this time, first leading him to an empty portable toilet, then to the only tree in the field with not a single sheep around.

He just didn't understand what was going on. Why did Shaun keep running away? Did Bitzer do something bad? Couldn't they just talk about it? Even in their worst fights they at least glared at each other in acknowledgement, but this…avoiding the other like that was new, a fight being one sided like this had never happened.

Shaun reacting like this never happened.

He was just-, it was the first time that Bitzer had to pursue him to make amends and not the other way around. And Shaun didn't even look angry! Just...sad.

Bitzer whined, ears going down. Well, that sheep wasn't alone in that feeling.

His short moment of self pity was interrupted by the smallest crack of wood. The dog looked up to squint his eyes at the tree. Up there, between the leaves, he could see a pair of eyes staring back at him. The creature tried to hide back at being spotted, but only managed to step on the wrong spot and slip.

Biting back a yelp, Bitzer rushed to stand under the tree; because these were the tasks he was trained for, his times to play hero on his own way. He stretched his arms, chest puffed and a confident smile on his face as he was ready to catch-

Only to end up crushed against the grass by a sheep who fell one step ahead from his calculation. With a groan of pain leaving his mouth, the dog lifted his head to find a hero in a red cape lying dizzy over his chest. He frowned a bit in disappointment. He could've sworn it were Shaun's eyes the ones behind the leaves.

Super Sheep took a moment to open his eyes, being quick to move away at noticing who his pillow was. Now sitting on the grass, both animals stared wide eyed at each other, smiled, then couldn't help but laugh over what a fail all that was.

Once calm, they stood up. Bitzer's gaze went from the tree the hero had just used as a hiding spot to his watch. His whuff came out questioning— What was Super Sheep doing there at such an hour?

Despite having asked, Bitzer didn't really pay attention to the nervous chuckle nor the mumbled answer of the hero as he returned to look around. Nothing against the guy, but his best friend was just a priority right now.

A hint got the dog's nose to twitch and his ears to lift. It was gone as soon as it came however, as something suddenly held him from leaving.

Bitzer turned to blink at the sheep grabbing his arm. Eyes wide, Super Sheep took a moment to notice what he had done before he instantly released it. Bitzer could tell the way he grinned and brushed off a leaf from the dog's shoulder was just to pretend.

Holding the hoof in place(which still had the bandage on, he noticed), Bitzer looked up at the tree. Seemed to be his favorite spot to surprise Bitzer, was that the hero's way of getting his attention? What for this time?

It was a bad moment to remember the way he hung upside down from one the first time they really talked, worse to recall that scene from that night's movie instantly after.

Bitzer found himself sweating cold. Oh no, no, nooo, that couldn't be it. Not at all. How many changes were that Super Sheep watched that same movie and got that exact idea? It was just Bitzer's imagination talking. Dumb wishful thinking.

Then again, he was sure the hero had been throwing hints at him the whole week…

Frowning slightly, the dog's gaze set on the sheep. Super sheep was blushing, his outfit and wool a bit messier than usual(as if he had rushed to get changed) and his eyes, always hidden behind a mask, had a special shine on them at that moment. Was it nervousness? Expectation?

With everything packed perfectly under the blue light of the moon, it really did feel like a scene straight out of a movie.

One where Bitzer had the chance to be the suave, calm flirter of the two for once.

The dog chuckled, woof soft as his paw went to playfully squeeze the other's shoulder— Since when was Super Sheep shy?

Even when Bitzer pulled up his goggles, even when he placed a paw on the side of his face, the sheep remained quiet, staring as if under a trance. When Bitzer asked the question, eyes half-lidded at being unable to not tease a bit, a barely noticeable nod was enough for him to continue.

Eyes closed, Bitzer leaned in, getting closer and closer until finally, there was no distance between them.

The kiss was short, almost cast with nervousness playing against him, but still left both of them breathless. The hero and the dog opened their eyes, staring at the other with gleaming eyes as they took in what happened. At that moment, it was as if only the two of them were around, with everything feeling so nice and perfect and-

Bitzer's noise twitched.

Familiar…

As fragile as glass, it all came crashing down to pieces in a moment.

Bitzer couldn't help his frown, the way his eyes desperately scanned the sheep as he suddenly noticed: how without his googles on, without the red makeup on his eyes, without the perfume…how Super Sheep- how he-

Out of all the things he could've said, Bitzer stayed silent.

His own paws felt weak over the sheep's shoulders. Ears lowering, The hero, maybe sensing, perhaps knowing already, opened his mouth to give the explanation Bitzer expected.

But not a single word came. Just eyes shining with wetness the sheep had to bite back, a shake of his head and a hoof going to Bitzer's chest to put distance between them, was all the dog got.

Bitzer didn't follow the sheep when he ran away, nor was there a single call for his lost friend for the rest of the night.

A few minutes later, near a portable restroom, the pigs started snickering at seeing a hero leaving his suit behind.
