Chapter 18: Out of luck.

Well Ideas I realized that her love interest is either gonna be Casey and stay Casey or have a relationship with Casey but then break up and end up with Jayden... ideas.
Courtney's POV:
All of us rangers are following a very strong signal on our trackers.
"I've never seen anything like this," Rose says as we keep an eye on her tracker. "These readings indicate a..."
Before she can continue we see people running away.
"Right there!" Ronny says and we see some sort of dragon with armor on.
"First magicians, now Dragons," I whisper under my breath getting annoyed. "Are these guys trying to annoy me!"
Dax seems a little scared. "Am I the only one who has a thing about dragons?"
I smirk at him.
"I own a dragon, a unicorn, have a father who turns into a centaur and have a lot of magical powers," I say to him as we move over to the dragon. "What do you think?"
"HEY! He's got our compass!" Mack says to all of us.
"Not for long!" Will and I say at the same time and then Will speaks directly to him. "All right big guy, hand it over! We can do it the easy way or the hard way!"
"The hard way!" The dragon tells us.
"READY?!"
"READY!"
"OVERDRIVE ACCELERATE!"
We morph and prepare for another fight.
"DRIVE DEFENDER!" Mack says and we all attack.
One by one we are all being knocked around. I even tried fireballs but it wouldn't penetrate his armor. That guys armor is stronger then a lot of things I'd seen.
When Dax gets knocked down Rose, Ronny and I stand in front of him and face the monster.
"Dax!" I say worried about the blue ranger.
"Three pretty ones!" The dragon says clearly not worried about how many of us are facing him. "This will be fun!"
He runs at us and we all go to strike him with our swords. But he catches all of them in both of his hands and flips us over. I am the only one to land on my feet and I turn before running straight back at him.
"Your stubborn!" He growls as he forces me back.
"Take after my dad!" I say thinking back to when the Chimera said I was as stubborn as Leanbow.
Back then I took it as an insult. Now I see it as a compliment. He catches me off guard and strikes me across the chest sending me flying with smoke and sparks coming off of my suit.
"Courtney!" The others all call as they make a formation around the dragon.
I feel myself heal and sigh glad I am not gonna be in pain for ages.
"Oh so you have me surrounded?!" The dragon says not concerned at his current predicament. "You think thats the way to attack?! You just make it easier for me! Six of you huh? Let's see how they handle this! The power of the compass!"
There is a flash as a symbol appears above the dragon and then enlightens him. I do not like the looks of that.
"Hey what's he doing?" Mack asks.
The dragon laughs and turns to look at us one by one. "HA HA HA! This is going to be fun. Go ahead! You can't hurt me! No way!"
I do not like how much confidence he has right now.
"We'll see about that!" Ronny says determined to put an end to him.
Rose begins to fire at the fiend but somehow it goes straight through him. Instead Dax is forced to dodge every shot that Rose takes.
"WHOA!" He cries as sparks surround him. "WATCH OUT ROSE!"
"Sorry!" Rose says staring at her blaster in shock.
Everyone else makes noises of shock.
"It just passed right through him!" Dax says and I glance at him to see that thankfully he is not hurt.
He fires at Dax so I send a shield out to protect him. This makes hot face even angrier.
"You are beginning to drive me nuts!" He stamps his foot at me. "We're going to have to do something about you! Now all of you bow down to me! For with this compass, I control all chi and li energy! I can control fortune.. good and bad!"
"That's ridiculous!" Mack says.
"Let's get him!" Will says and both he and Mack run at him.
As they get closer the dragon ducks down to grab something off of the ground, Will and Mack miss and as he stands back up, he hits them both.
Everyone else runs over to Mack and I run forward to fight the dragon. I kick him but he catches my ankle. Flipping up I kick him in the chest before landing in front of the others who all look impressed.
"You just made me mad!" He yells as I watch him warily. "And I am going to make you pay dearly for that! I'm going to remove all your good fortune and replace it with bad luck!"
"Yeah right!" Mack says.
He aims to compass at us and I raise a shield around everyone but before it gets to Mack it hits him. I gasp in panic.
"Now you'll see and feel what the power of the compass can do!" He tells me and I sigh knowing this will not end well. "You will be cursed with bad luck!"
"Bad luck?" Mack repeats as he stands next to me again.
"Watch it slowly destroy you!" He states and then blasts the ground around us.
While distracted with covering our eyes the dragon disappears.
"HEY STOP!" We all yell when the smoke is cleared and we all run to the spot where the dragon disappeared.
"Man what was that all about?" Mack asks not fazed by what just happened.
I am on the phone to a friend who might be able to help with the compass.
"Cam," I say when he answers. "It's Courtney!"
"Hey stranger," he says and I smile at his comment. "Long time no see. I have just finished my classes for the day! What's up?"
"Would you be able to pop to Hartford mansion?" I ask him as I keep my eyes on Mack.
I stop as a branch suddenly drops down in front of me. Two seconds before it would have hit Mack.
"Sure when do you want me there?" Cam asks on the phone.
"As soon as you can!" I exclaim before hanging up the phone and glancing at Mack who still does not seem concerned.
I look up from where the tree branch had fallen. There did not seem to be any reason for it to fall.
"Um Mack do me a favour...," I say sweetly before stepping in front of him. "Stay to the back of the group!"
We then head for Hartford mansion.
I go outside to meet Cam and then we take the elevator to the base.
"Usually we have everything under control," I tell him as I explain about the compass. "But..."
I stop as I observe what is happening in front of me. Mack had just fallen and slammed into the globe before hitting the floor on his front. The globe comes off and goes racing to the other side of the room. Cam and I turn our heads as the other rangers follow it.
The globe hits the wall and then begins to go the other way and the others now run away from it. The ball is about to hit Mack but I stop it with my powers.
I chuckle slightly as Cam raises an eyebrow. "I swear this is an unusual day for us..."
"Ummm..." Cam says sounding like he is fighting back a laugh.
"It could happen to anyone," he says and I shake my head as I pull him to his feet. "I'm fine. I'm fine!"
"Right it was just another coincidence!" Rose says rolling her eyes.
Later on, after spending some time downstairs discussing tech and magical ways to find the compass, Cam and I are in the parlor playing pool. I hear a noise and look up to see both Dax and Ronny have walked into each other.
They both laugh and I share a look with Cam.
"Hey what you got there?" Ronny asks Dax who is holding a white shirt that looks like Azantys or another animal might have got a hold of it.
I take a shot but continue to listen to their conversation.
"Oh it's a good luck charm," he says and I try not to laugh. "I thought I'd loan it to Mack to help him through this!"
Ronny takes the shirt and turns it over as I pot another ball and smirk at Cam who glares at me playfully.
"Don't boast that you're beating me!" He says and I shrug. "I'll start thinking your cyber cam!"
My mouth drops open before I smirk more. "Get him here then. Maybe he'll be more of a challenge!"
Cam bites his lip for a second before running at me so I squeek and run the other way. I stop as I get near Ronnie and their is the most disgusting, rotten and moldy smell coming from the paper bag in her hand, which she had just opened.
"WOAH!" I cry holding my nose and trying not to heave. "I've smelt potions that are better smelling then that. What the hell have you got in there?!"
She looks sheepish but the other two men are also looking sick at the vile smell. She opens the bag again and as we all hold our noses and have tears in our eyes she pulls out the dirtiest, like never washed socks I have ever seen in my life.
I try not to look sick as I stare at her for an explanation.
"My lucky socks!" She says and she doesn't seem fazed at all by the smell. "For five years I've worn them when I've raced!"
Dax tries to speak but his breathing keeps catching. "Have you thought about washing them?"
"Repeatedly," I suggest and Cam chuckles.
"No way," she says and I shake my head in disgust. "I mean what's a little aroma when bad luck is present!"
I try not to breathe through my nose.
"Ronny that is not a little aroma!" I say gagging.
"Guys have you seen Mack?" Rose asks as she approaches the four of us.
"No, why?" Ronny says as she places the socks back in the bag nut the smell seems to be lingering. "What's wrong?"
Rose seems to finally smell the socks. "Other than that terrible smell in here? I was just walking down the street with him and I turned around for a moment, and when I turned back he was just gone."
I share a look with the others worried that Mack is in danger.
Cam and I are sat with the others who have brought good luck charms. I myself am holding a little bag.
"This is my lucky scarf," Will tells us as he holds a black scarf in his hands. "I wore it when I rode out the avalanche in in Austria."
He sits down and we all look at Rose, who is wearing a sombrero.
"It's my dad's lucky sombrero," she tells us and I smile at her. "Don't ask me why. I didn't ask him."
"Tyzonn," Dax says and we look at Ty who is holding a plant.
"It's my plotted plant," he says and I glance at the slightly crooked plant. "I grew it myself. Courtney!"
I smile as I empty the contents of the small bag in my hands.
"Rocks?!" Rose asks and I smile.
"Yes," I say but I hold one up. "When I was little my dad disappeared for a few days. When he came back he said these rocks were from the moon. I kept them in my pocket through all my school exams. I now know he was telling the truth as he went on a special mission with other red rangers to stop a giant evil zord! This mission was on the moon and he picked a few rocks out for 13 year old me! That's lucky if you ask me!"
The others all look at my rocks amazed.
"By the way," Tyzonn says from besides Ronny who is still holding the bag with her smelly socks in. "What's that smell?"
Ronny pulls out the socks and Azantys suddenly whines.
"MY GOD! There's magical creatures that smell better than that! Even on my planet! Phineas smells better than that! AND HE'S A TROBLIN!"
I cough to cover my laugh and ignore the looks I recieve from the others.
"Yeah I was gonna mention it earlier," Will says glaring at Ronny as she places them back in the bag. "Something reeks!"
Ronny gives us all a look.
"Good," Dax says. "Hopefully one or all of our charms will help Mack ward off his bad luck... if we can find him. The good luck is working already."
We smile as he pulls his tracker off of his arm, which is beeping.
"What is it saying?" I ask him.
"I'm picking up a giant flow of negative energy," he says before smiling at all of us. "I wonder what that could be! And he's heading towards the park!"
"I think we just found Mr. Lucky!" Rose says and I turn to Cam.
"Are you okay to stay here till I get back?" I ask him.
"Yeah, I can continue to see what the deal is with this compass!" I smile and pat him on the shoulder before taking off after my team.
We call out to Mack as we run up to him. He looks like he has been through hell. He is limping, covered in mud and is groaning with every step.
He lands on the ground and glances at everyone's attire. "You guys look like you've been at a garage sale!"
"And you look like a garage just fell on you!" Rose points out and I nod at him.
"Close!" Mack tells us and I feel sorry for him.
I kneel down and raise my hands and heal him. He sighs as the pain leaves his body before giving me a grateful look.
"We bought you these," Dax says as we all hold out our items of luck. "They're good luck charms from each of us!"
We all pass our items and he places my rocks into his pocket.
"It will help you ward off the bad luck!" I tell him with a smile.
"An hour ago I would've laughed at all of you!" He says to us and I raise an eyebrow as I realise he finally believes all of us about the bad luck. "Thanks guys!"
He places the sombrero on his head, the scarf around his neck, holds the potted plant, leaves the shirt on his chest for now. But when Ronny holds out the socks we all back away and even Mack looks reluctant.
"Just put on the socks!" She rolls her eyes and sounds annoyed but I have no sympathy.
Those socks reek.
We find out that Moltor and the dragon are in a quarry. The seven of us head down there.
"Hey Moltor!" Mack says as we all arrive morphed and Mack in his new attire including the smelly socks.
Moltor and the dragon laugh at the state of him. He does not look right with all the extra stuff on.
"What?" Moltor questions when he gets a good look at him. "What are you trying to do? Destroy us with laughter!"
I see that Mack has placed the moon rocks in his belt for safe keeping. Thats good as they are special to me.
"You wait and see who laughs last Moltor!" Mack tells him.
"READY!" I say before we begin roll call.
"KICK INTO OVERDRIVE! MERCURY RANGER!"
"KICK INTO OVERDRIVE! PINK RANGER!"
"KICK INTO OVERDRIVE! YELLOW RANGER!"
"KICK INTO OVERDRIVE! BLUE RANGER!"
"KICK INTO OVERDRIVE! BLACK RANGER!"
"KICK INTO OVERDRIVE! RED RANGER!"
"KICK INTO OVERDRIVE! WHITE RANGER!"
Moltor and his crony continue to laugh at Mack. He is getting annoyed. "Well laugh at this!"
He goes to move forward but slips and falls towards the its not that far but he does hit the ground a little hard and we all call out to him worried.
"Look at you rangers!" Moltor says to all of us. "Reduced to rolling in the dirt! Tough luck!"
"Hey Ty!" Mack calls out to Ty holding his plant out. "You're plants still in one piece!"
"Nice!" Ty says in reply.
"Okay!" Mack says turning back to the goons. "Now let's show them their bad luck! Us!"
"I guess its come to this!" The dragon says.
"You can't beat me and my good luck charms!" Mack informs them and I smile. "I call upon all my luck! Coming at you!"
But then I am forced to raise a shield as a huge boulder comes rolling at him. He rolls across the ground away from it so it doesn't hit him.
"So much for your good luck charms!" The dragon comments and I glare at him.
"I'm okay!" Mack says to us. "Calling on the luck of these smelly old socks!"
"HEY! Watch it!" Ronny says and I smirk from her side, glad she cannot see through my helmet.
He begins to run at the dragon and Moltor disappears.
"HEY! Look up there!" The dragon says and Mack stops to look up.
"Yeah! And?" He says but I gasp as he is suddenly struck by lightning.
He falls.
"MACK!" We all yell out.
We go to help him but a bunch of lava lizards appear behind us and we move to fight them. As we fight we listen to Mack and the dragon's conversation.
I kick a lava lizard back before ducking as he goes to strike me. I block a punch and twist into the air.
"I guess your socks and by the way they do stink aren't working either!" The dragon informs Mack.
"Now you're making me mad!" Ronny says as I pass her while grappling with another lava lizard.
I grab the wrist of a lizard and flip it over. Jumping over as a bunch fire at me it hits their own mate.
"Nice shot!" I smirk before one grabs me from behind. "Now that's no way to treat a lady!"
I kick him back.
"I still have this scarf, t-shirt, hat, plant and stones," Mack says and I am silently happy he hadn't lost my stones. "And my will to see you destroyed!"
"Enough playing games!" The dragon says.
I pull out my blaster before jumping into the air and firing at a bunch of the lizards. When I touch back down I run forwards and continue to shoot at them.
Mack looses most of the items except for the plant and rocks.
"This plant and Courtney's rocks are all I need!" He says when he sees what is left.
I finish the lava lizards and see that Mack has the compass.
"GOT IT!" He says and I give him thumbs up. "HEY BIG GUY!"
The dragon is scared when he sees what is in Mack's hands.
"NO!" He yells.
"I believe your luck has changed!" Mack says to him holding the compass up.
After calling for his lance Mack manages to finish the dragon.
After finishing off the lizards we all race over to Mack.
"Mack you did it!" Rose says as we finish telling him what a good job he did. "You got the ancient compass! Okay let's see here!"
She moves her finger along the compass. It glows before she points it at Mack and their is a flash. My guess is that this means his bad luck has gone.
"Now your bad luck has been removed!" Rose confirms my thoughts. "Everything's gonna be fine!"
"Thanks!" Mack says to all of us. "Ty, Courtney! Your plant and stones really were lucky!"
I nod and Ty says. "Who knew!"
We are all happy that we won. Mack is back to normal and he has retrieved the relic that was stolen from us.
"So much for this thing!" Mack says referring to his bad luck.
"That's what you think!" Moltor says reappearing and we all turn to look at him. "The days not over yet! Look around! Get them!"
We are a little alarmed at the amount of Lava lizards he has.
"There certainly is a lot of them!" Ty states the obvious.
"Yeah you can say that again," I say glancing around at all of my friends.
"You thinking what I'm thinking?" Will asks and I smirk.
"I am," I tell him.
"Wanna draw straws?" Will asks me.
"Na," Mack says and I glance at him. "Let Ty do it. Courtney it'll be your turn next! Transtech armor! GO!"
The transtech appears and Ty takes off into it.
Ty destroys all the lava lizards while we take on Moltor. We fight as a team and even though he is a formidable opponent we have the upper hand as their is six of us.
At least until he strikes all six of us. As we groan from the ground, Moltor runs off and Tyzonn rejoins us.
"All right!" I say and we all begin to chase Moltor. "Let's go after him!"
"See if a little boost doesn't help!" Moltor says and we see he has pushed the dragon into a glowing valley and now the whole Earth is shaking like mad, Moltor turns to us. "I'm afraid you're too late!"
The dragon suddenly reappears giant-sized.
"SPENCER THE ZORDS!" Mack and Ty both yell into their morphers.
I stay on the ground as the others take to the zords. I have the compass. My morpher suddenly goes off as the others are loosing.
"This is Courtney!" I say into it as I worry for my friends safety.
"Courtney!" Cam says to me and I make a noise of acknowledgement! "You can use the compass to help the others! Use your magic to strengthen it!"
I nod as the dragons speaks. "No one will hear your calls for help!"
I use a spell to blast the dragon and he turns to look at me.
"They're not the ones who need help!" I say and he cries out in anger.
Rose calls for the auxillary zords. They surround the dragon.
"ACTIVATE!" I say and then I roll call the zords. "DRILL DRIVER! SHOVEL DRIVER! CEMENT DRIVER! CRANE DRIVER! Hey guys anyone know how you say adios in dragon!"
I jump into the cockpit of the megazord and pass the compass to Mack. Holding my hand out over it I use it to power up the megazord. It sends a blast to the dragon.
"Now we'll see who has all the luck," Mack says to him as the sun reappears.
The dragon laughs. "I don't believe in bad luck!"
He makes a move towards us but falls over a bunch of stones. He falls flat on his face. While distracted we combined the auxillary zords with the megazord. We use them to destroy him.
I am against Mack in a game of pool. Even though I had wiped the floor with Cam he challenged me.
"Okay so I had a little bad luck," he says as I finish my go and step back.
"A little?" Rose asks in shock. "You had an entire lifetime's worth in one day!"
"But you survived," Dax says to him. "Thanks to our good luck charms!"
"And my potted plant," Ty says from where he is sat in front of the Foosball table.
Cam smiles at me as I glance at him.
"Yes thank you all!" Mack says and I smile at him. "But the most important thing of all is... my bad luck is over!"
He takes a shot at the ball and it goes flying off the table and Spencer catches it.
"THAT'S IT!" I say turning to my friends. "I'M CALLING CYBER CAM! Clearly none of you are a challenge!"
They all begin to chase me till Spencer calls out.
"Hang on you lot!" He calls to get our attention. "Do these belong to anyone? I found them on the floor of the command center. They had a rather unpleasant odor so I washed them!"
I bite my tounge as Ronny looks upset.
"MY SOCKS NO!"
